I think it’s a good thing that someone from a relatively normal background who went to a comprehensive school can go to one of the top universities in the world.

Burnham 4th choice in 2010 behind Ed Miliband (vote % similar to Diane Abbot), 2nd choice behind Corbin in 2015. 

 

So we've got someone nowhere near as good as Ed Miliband and slightly worse than Jeremy ****ing Corbin.

It should be, but generally isn't. I'd say it's not a new thing either, but social media has enabled the cult of personality to expand rapidly.

a very interesting article that talks about how the Israeli monetary system has put a cap on the amount of Shekels it is taking back from Palestinian banks in the West Bank. This is causing the bank vaults to be loaded up with shekels, yet no way of digitalizing it for customer bank accounts and bank card spending, no way for companies to pay suppliers and to transfer payments for workers.

 

Edit: it also mentions that people are going to petrol stations with only cash and the petrol stations are refusing the cash because they have nowhere to put it and their banks are refusing to take any more cash as they’re so full.

 

Note in September 2025 the Israeli finance minister stated he would use everything at his disposal to stop the formation of a Palestinian state, including economic strangulation.

I know from my previous line of work, he was very involved with supporting social housing and rough sleeping in the area. I left the sector a few years ago so am out of touch but he was very popular for his efforts in that particular field.

He listens to Sacha Lord who advised on the night time economy in Manchester.

 

He was on the radio this morning saying that increasing business rates, employers NI and minimum wage had trashed hosptality. He was very scathing of Rachel Reeves.

 

I was encouraged to hear that someone near Burnham understands these basics. That being said, Burnham told Lineker 'we may to have to pay a little more' suggesting tax rises so who knows.

 

He is going to present a 10 year plan for Britain. We haven't had a plan from a government for some time, so it will be interesting to hear what is on it.

The hypocrisy would be hilarious if it wasn't so deeply frustrating.

7th Prime Minister in a decade really is quite a shocker when you attempt to wrap your head around that fact

 

I wish him the very best, the Country needs stability 

 

I shouldn’t really have any hope considering the fact above, however Burnham for some reason feels like our best chance in a long while to improve the state of politics, and governing in general

And it's self evident that the hypocrisy is not limited to one side of the aisle. 

 

I guess, with that being true, it comes down to which entity is capable of bigger degrees of influencing the public and therefore policy decision-making, and therefore where the hypocrisy causes most damage. And that is a pretty loaded debate in of itself.

If I wanted to be considered by the public to have integrity. I would be very careful about what I put out in the press that I myself might want to do later.

 

It would, were it to happen, make me look like a hypocritical bellend IMO. It would also give the opposition press an opportunity to point it out.

Which, these days, is a pretty difficult tightrope to walk, even though I absolutely agree with the sentiment in principle. Especially when that opposition press is only too happy to fabricate when they can't actually find much, because the press regulator is toothless.

Exactly. There is no need to fabricate when politicians create so much content for them to use.

 

Its not really a tightrope, its just remembering that people might remember what you said and wrote down and hold you to it later. Its not hard.
