Xi very effusive with his speech, then. A lot of talk about coexisting and "partners, not rivals". Possibly because he thinks or knows he has the upper hand in terms of negotiations this time round?

 

Passing thought; perhaps he would also be willing to trade a long term agreement to leave Taiwan alone for an international agreement on AI? Those are equally hot button issues for both leaders where they don't see eye to eye.

I mean yeah! To be fair, I don’t think it’s so much that the sentences in recent years for those assaulting police etc in protests are unreasonable. But more that it often shows how lenient sentences for other crimes can be.

 

5 years for driving under the influence and killing someone but 2 years for this that I’ve posted for example. 
 

I’m pleased to see some tougher sentences but it needs to go further for other crimes. There’s clearly an element of making a point to the sentences from the judicial system. But then the ‘patriots’ are essentially doing the same. All a bit tit for tat.

I does seem harsh when compared to sentences for much more serious crimes.

Could be a bit of mind games. 

 

Majority is 170+, why gamble on that with the idea that you'll be polling worse in two and a half years time?

Orange March to go ahead after 28 years means it looks like there's going to be trouble.

 

Is this a subtle response to Trumps United Ireland to show the people are not ready for it.

They’ve been going on for years, but for some reason they’ve decided it’s essential and now legal to run it through a heavily catholic area.

 

Not sure why that judge decided to lift the ban on these plonkers.

We have to wait for more details but several questions are clear 

 

a) three vans approach an extremely sensitive location in the early hours without triggering any official response until a local phones in to report it 

 

b) seems likely that at least five men are preparing to carry out a terror attack on uk soil and the authorities have no idea about it

Or a possibility is that the relevant security services did know but let things play out as they did in order to deceive and/or protect a source giving the information.

Additionally, if this is what it initially appears to be, it plays into the bigger question of ME geopolitics and exactly why the UK still seems unnecessarily determined to pick a side on the matter.
