Few comments on alves cameo : 

 

A solid, professional performance but no real notes to take from a game like that if I’m being completely honest. Will Alves certainly looks a handful though! Hoping everybody got through unscathed. Full focus on Saturday!

Will Alves has looked good since coming on for his Huddersfield Town debut.

Seems he wants to get the ball and drive forward into space and make defenders think. Good quick feet and isn’t afraid of taking a pop either.

Newport manager David Hughes has taken two Leicester City players on loan, including the 'outstanding' Sammy Braybrooke

Sammy Braybrooke is in line for his Newport County debut this weekend with the Leicester City midfielder branded “technically outstanding” by his new boss David Hughes.

Braybrooke and City striker Nathan Opoku joined the Exiles on half-season loans on deadline day and are both in contention to feature against Bristol Rovers on Saturday lunchtime.

After a spell at Dundee in the first half of last season, Braybrooke will get a second chance in men’s football with Newport and is already receiving rave reviews from their manager that suggest he could become a starter at Rodney Parade.

 

If so, that's only got to help the 21-year-old's development and potentially aid his route into the senior squad at City.

“Sammy is an outstanding footballer, tenacious and technically outstanding,” said Hughes.

“He understands the game and you clearly don't play for England at the age groups he has without having a huge amount of ability. That’s positive.


“Sammy was one we’d spoken about for some time. We watched his games at Dundee and he showed the tenacity to be able to handle men's football.

“He’s adapted well. He’s a lovely guy. He is humble, grounded and aware of what the expectations are here for everybody that pulls on a shirt.

“He can see a pass, travel with the ball, has really good delivery at set plays. He’s definitely a competitor, he can handle the ball really well under pressure.

“Let’s not put pressure on him too soon but he’s trained all week and let’s see what that looks like come kick-off.”

Opoku will also be hoping to feature after returning from a long injury lay-off at the end of last season. The 24-year-old suffered a leg break at the end of his 18-month loan to OH Leuven and needed 12 months to recover.

The pair are two of eight players out on loan from City. As well as senior players Bilal El Khannouss (Stuttgart), Woyo Coulibaly (Sassuolo) and Will Alves (Huddersfield), City have loaned out Tom Wilson-Brown (Swindon), Henry Cartwright (Falkirk) and Jayden Joseph (Tranmere).

Newport County kick off at 12:30 tomorrow vs Bristol Rovers and it is being shown on Sky Sports Main Event

 

Even if just off the bench hopefully we get to see some minutes for Braybrooke and Opoku

Wife’s just asked what we’re doing this afternoon. Haven’t quite decided how to tell her I’m watching the Leicester Iniesta make his debut for Newport 🤩

Waited several years to watch these pair week in, week out. I won't stop now.

Braybrooke only had his first touch in the 8th minute. Feel for him really, the ball has been 50ft in the air for the whole time.

Great commitment that Rick! It feels like a make or break season for them both doesn't it. Fingers crossed they can flourish.
