Missed one clearance? He played a looped pass into the striker 😂

He miss hit a hooked clearance, I think he was better than his partner and both fullbacks who were awful, though that’s not saying much. He needs a lump who heads it and kicks it alongside him.

Sell him in January, why fvcking bother ay

Fair enough people can call him out for a poor performance, but certain people were definitely waiting for it to happen to start digging into the lad

He likely won’t be signing a new deal and why would he. So probably makes sense to sell him anyway.

Ben Nelson will definitely spend the next 10 seasons of his career playing at a higher level (talking when averaged out) and achieving more than Leicester City will.

I can’t say for definite as it would be impossible to go and look but there’s definitely a percentage of people on here who get excited when there’s a chance to criticise these kids (I realise Nelson isn’t a kid but feels like it to me..)

The reaction to Aluko getting sent off was utterly embarrassing. Grown men going crazy and giddy because they can go I TOLD YOU SO!!! THE 18 YEAR OLD IS SHIT!!!

Nelson was by all accounts poor yesterday or just at fault for a goal i don’t know. I couldn’t watch.

Of course fans who like seeing Academy players involved are biased and less likely to criticise, but if I’m totally honest after the last few years of “senior pros” putting disgraceful performances in every week I don’t mind Nelson, Aluko, Page and even Silko Thomas looking shaky. If it means we’re actually building towards something.

I think people forget we’ll still be a Championship side next season & potentially not much money to spend. We will need these kids. It’s not like we’ll be expecting them to jump up to the Prem.

You even get accounts taking snide shots at Alves & Braybrooke ffs.

Bang on. I said the same at the time re Aluko at Southampton. There were genuinely grown men on here buzzing at the fact an 18 year old kid got sent off on his full debut so they could say I told you so. Our fan base is embarrassing in general but that was one that takes the biscuit!

But it was the same with Barnes, Chilwell and KDH who were similarly criticised. In fact when people ran out of reasons to find fault with KDH on the pitch, attention turned to trying to tar his name but claiming him not to be one of our own etc. Wow he was born in the hospital in Nottingham before being brought home to his family home in Leicestershire. So was I. Get over it, you’re grown men.

Hope you are not replying to my post as an exemplar of someone writing Nelson off!

Being better than anyone yesterday isn’t much of an achievement. Hopefully it was just a terrible day and an anomaly.

You can't say bad things about academy players. FT goes into meltdown!

If people are measured and constructive then fine, instead most people criticising can’t wait to jump down his throat in a look-look-told-you-so manner as if Faes deserves his place instead.

You sound very disappointed about youth players doing well I have to say….

What, because i dare to be critical of a 21 year old man, yes that's right, man - not child.

The same people harping on about how he should be captain and an England international after a half decent season at Oxford?

Same people who harped on about Will Alves (who im sure will spend the remainder of his career in the lower leagues) despite the way he was spoken about on this forum.

You might want to avoid offering any criticism as to avoid upsetting a certain gaggle of the forum, and thats fine, but other are quite happy to offer their honest opinions.

FWIW I have never suggested he shouldn't play again, or be dropped, I have simply offered similar criticism to any other person in the squad and mocked some of the hype around someone who, in my opinion, hasnt been anything other than average at best.

Two way street though, some start with "here we go, someone who can't wait to slag the youth off" which is just not true for 99% of  folks on here.

Any fans wants the youth to shine, to excel for us and to become the backbone of our future.

But that sort of childish point scoring is just irritating and just prevents any serious discussion.

Don't get too upset, unless of course your Ben Nelson's dad in which case I apologise.

 :dunno:

Alves is 20 and already has a decent half season in the championship on loan and was doing fine in league one before his injury.

You're talking like he's 25 and has struggled to perform when out on loan when that is not the case. Very strange to be so confident about a player struggling when Alves is on track for a good career at the level we're at currently despite his injury issues.

You definitely would’ve binned off KDH before his first loan because he didn’t get it until he was 21

You are suggesting I've binned Nelson off?

I haven't, I wouldn't take him out of the starting line up, but equally I am more than happy calling out bad performances the same as I will any other player.

Your right, KDH probably was written off by some, but equally there were probably the same people back then saying he will be future England captain after a couple of good games at Blackpool yet hes 27 now without a single England cap....obviously im just being pedantic there...

But don't take every bit of criticism as writing a player off.

Don't see the point picking on individuals when the whole team was utter garbage yesterday.

Embarrassing to be 4-0 down after 45 against QPR, whole teams needs their wages docking, none of them looked interested in that 1st half.

But there are plenty of comments whereby people who are nowhere to be seen when Nelson (/other academy grads) has a good game. Bad loss in which nobody covers themselves in glory under a shit manager… lo and behold - “Nelson bad”.

That the same with anything, see how quiet the Marti out thread is when we won a couple. :dunno:

Football fans are the very definition of fickle.

I’m not coming for you or anything but I think if Alves doesn’t go on to make it here it won’t be down to lack of talent. The poor kid was literally assaulted on a football pitch. That wasn’t a normal tackle or accident.

It's true though, and its always the same people.

Took plenty to finally admit that Kasey McAteer was useless. Defending his constant poor performances with "but he works hard".

Not putting Nelson into the same category,  I am sure theres an alright player in there, but people saying he's been 'class' prior to yesterday when actually he's not really done anything besides be marginally better than Vestergaard.

I can already see it, their next obsession will be Braybrooke now hes scored a decent goal for bottom of League 2 Newport. Already seeing people suggesting he returns.

He's played 7 games this season. He was poor yesterday and he was dreadful against Huddersfield. He hasn't really stood out in many of the other games. I think the biggest problem he's got on Foxestalk is the Ben Nelson fan club. You can't even fairly criticise him on here without getting jumped on by a number of posters.

Any young player is going to struggle in this defence. It has no protection, his more experienced defenders can't really help him cause they're bad defenders and he we have a young keeper. I hope he succeeds and we should keep playing him. He'd really be helped by Soutter coming back.

People have been saying he's a future England international and a future £40-50 million pound defender who would sort this defence out. Maybe he is, but he doesn't really look like it atm. That isn't his fault.

If people fairly point out he's had a bad game. A bunch of people come on here playing the outraged youth player excuse. Whilst some of the same people slag Silko Thomas off. Go on his thread yesterday, he's still getting slagged off after scoring.

We just all need to chill. If he has a bad game, it's okay to say it. He's a young player in a sh*t defensive unit, he's going to struggle. We all need to manage expectations.

I am 100% in the Ben Nelson fan club but you can't objectively post stuff like this dismissing some of his performances so far when you've got his own manager calling him outstanding vs Derby, Matt Piper and Matt Elliott both giving him MOTM in that game over the likes of James and Reid etc. He was our best defender vs Middlesborough as well.

Asking for a bit of even handedness isn’t too much, younger players need it and if anything a bit more leeway than usual.

There’s a plurality of pro youth posters on here and by and large they’re more measured (there are some exceptions) than the few who seemingly like slagging them off

Can’t be arsed reading pages of the same stuff, but surely people aren’t actually saying he shouldn’t be playing after yesterday? He had a shocker, and that second goal is comical but the alternative is Faes.

This is the problem though Rick, zero objectivity. You are only posting the good. It sets false expectations, as he will have bad games, its natural, If you spend all the time blowing smoke you have no right to complain when people comment after he has a less than perfect game.

He is great, 100% starter, no doubt, but he is a human.
