With freedom of speech also come consequences. Mark is completely free to determine those consequences as he sees fit as he runs the site.

Sorry it was ‘he’

I’ve been banned from general chat for suggesting Keir was tearful this morning and it maybe mirrored some posters thoughts on the subject - gutted I didn’t go out on something more controversial lol

Not sure that's why you were banned is it? I saw stuff which could be considered more confrontational than that.

Like KS was a disaster? Hardly confrontational :nigel:

Not sure how controversial threads about watches, cars, running 5k, Wordle, and some scientific weather discussion can get if I'm honest.

Of course, and goodness knows how ridiculous the polarisation is and appears to be.

Except about Russell Martin, that appears to an area of rare uniamnity.

I'm just going to chime in here and say a couple of things.

1. I probably know Mark better than about 99% of you and I've still got no idea what his politics are. He's also not the only one that polices General Chat or the General News thread. That said, I can say with complete, unwavering confidence that the mods and admins on this forum carry out their tasks completely apolitically. The best testament you'll find to that are the myriad snide remarks from childish users at both ends of the political spectrum trying to accuse Mark of being far left or far right to suit their persecution complex.

2.

You're absolutely right, yeah. Because just as in your local pub there are regulars that are known and trusted by the landlord and can probably get away with being a bit rowdier without getting booted out, some people here have been on FT an extremely long time, are known by the mods or admins and have earned that level of trust and are given the benefit of the doubt.

It's not favouritism, it's trust.

Everyone actually does get moderated, even I get posts deleted occasionally when I've overstepped or said something a bit too harsh to someone. I just don't tend to get the subsequent ban because Mark and the admins know I can be trusted to then realise I've overstepped and not carry on.

But because I'm not an entitled, emotionally fragile narcissist I don't come to Forum Support to cry and demand an explanation, so you'd never know about it. It's only really a select few that care that much about the internet to come in here moaning, which is why it looks like it's always the same people getting moderated.

Why is my account still banned then ?

Given the current conversation happening in General News I'm surprised there aren't a) further bans or b) fewer people banned.

Nothing different to what's gone on in past several months anyway :dunno:

With all the aggravation in General News with folk getting barred left, right and centre it makes you wonder what is the point of having one on what, after all, is primarily a football forum.

When the general news thread has been locked in the past, the same shit still gets spouted, but in different threads. At least if its just in the general news its a) easier to ignore for some posters b) easier to moderate. That would be my guess anyway.

Possibly worth pointing out as a reminder that politics talk is technically banned. We get away with a lot and Mark does let a lot go, but ultimately it's against the rules.

In which case there's a lot of inconsistency currently. And yes, I know it's a volunteer thing so I've got no issues with that.

Oh yeah I completely get that, I just remember all the reminders we've had, and the pinned banners at the top of the GN thread over time reminding us that politics chat is banned. Granted I've not seen anything in a while, but I guess it's on us to remember, and on Mark to ban anyone he likes.

Edit:  I'm as guilty of breaking this rule as the next person, before anyone has a pop
