I'd like us to appoint a hard, ugly b****r to shake the whole lot out of this torpor and instil some fight and passion.

Prerequisite for that is to replace Top first I am afraid. :(

I'd take him but got this gut instinct he'd flunk here as well for some reason, which is daft.

Wellens stock has fallen a bit in the last few months but I do think he's quite a no-nonsense type of character and he'd not tolerate a lot of these players.

I feel we have lost the identity of our club, it all feels very plastic, mostly due to players who probably don't want to be here.

I want someone to come in who has some history with us, who understands what this great club is about, or was about.

Richie Wellens for me, plus he worked with the great NP.

I have called for Wellens last season when it was clear we were coming down. Now our standing and expectations have dropped even further, I would go for him. He would need time to clear out the dross as no doubt they would look down on him. But I like the thought of someone from the school of NP! Feels like he’d not take any shit!

No point bringing in a no nonsense manager to shake things up because the players will just go above his head complain and down tools and just like Ange at Forest the new guy will be thrown under a bus in less than 2 months. Player power is ridiculous now, you need strong ownership and a culture where the manager is in charge and if you don’t toe the line then you are gone in the next available transfer window.

This is precisely it. It’s all very well craving an old-fashioned, no nonsense manager who won’t take any shit from the players, but  if the players won’t have him it won’t make any difference - he’ll be sacked within a fee months just like the last bloke. The reason this type of manager is getting rarer is that the ‘hard bastard’ schtick is becoming less and less effective with today’s footballers.

The cultural sickness at our club started during Rodgers’ reign (and while he was complicit he wasn’t the main cause) and continues to infect the squad. Whether we keep Cifuentes or sack him, and whether the next incumbent is a no-nonsense type or an softly-spoken Pep disciple, nothing will change until the root cause is addressed.

I think what we didn’t see realise when we had Enzo he was both a pep disciple but he was also very no nonsense and people knew where they stood. Look what he did at Chelsea.

We need someone that kicks these lads up the backside, but also in a way that they think it’s their own idea.

In Enzo we lucked upon an elite manager who was able to paper over the cracks. Before he left there were reports that he was demanding major changes behind the scenes because he felt our off-field operation was nowhere near the level required to compete at the top, and that the club had agreed to do what he asked. Then Chelsea came in for him, none of the changes were implemented and we downgraded to Steve Cooper. A proper sliding doors moment.

Even though I wasn’t a fan of his football at times I would’ve been interested to see what he did that season. But we’ll never know.

But he was a strong character and got everyone to buy in.

We wouldn't have signed Skipp, Ayew and Reid for a start lol

If you combined Duncan Ferguson and Roy Keane for the actual football, but made him australian, and threw in a sprinkling of serial killer, youd be getting somewhat close

He's our man 😂

Maybe so .... but the next transfer window is only weeks away .... if they want out then let their agents get them new clubs ... alternatively as a footballer do the job you paid to do no matter who the manager

Do we know what these changes were?

Not in detail, no. But I clearly remember his media spokesman Guillem Balagué saying that Enzo was shocked at how amateurish the club was behind the scenes and wanted to change it.

Some of the currently unemployed managers with previous Championship experience that I expect would be on the “list”:

Jon Dahl Tomasson

Russell Martin

Carlos Carvahal

Michael Carrick

Tony Mowbray

I'd only take Carvahal, maybe Carrick

Yeah - I remember it at the time. Balagué is a media wh*re though, so im starting to doubt the validity of this to some degree. Wanting to change things and club agreeing too are very different things.

No way he’s leaving Valencia for the Championship. Carrick will stabilise, but I’m pretty sure he’ll head to Southampton now.

I’d actually take Gerrard at this point

It was reported a while back he has issues with his tax status after the Saudi gig. Probably why he didn’t take the Rangers offer…

Talking of Rangers, Rohl should have been the choice for us in the summer!

Carlos Carvahal not Carlos Corberan

Although Corberan might be an option soon if Valencia don’t improve

Just realised the mistake! Corberan is decent, very good at this level.
