He was too one footed to start with.  BR didn’t seem to coach him to stop slowing down to turn 270 degrees to make a pass.  Enzo turned him into a really good player that drove forwards and made passes all over rather than killing momentum.

Nelson was solid at first next to JV, then he started playing like him. Maybe a new manager and now the rot has gone, he can hopefully show us what he can really do.

He was still criticised for being one footed under Enzo.

You would like to think everyone was overwhelmingly positive about Dewsbury Hall while he carried us to the PL but they weren't.

Only now that he plays for someone else in the Prem is he seen as the gold standard.

We haven’t had that type of player for two years. Watching KDH drive with the ball compared to Skipp who will always ping the ball back under no pressure after the defence have spent 20 passes trying to move forwards. He stretched the wingers to run and receive the ball in space ahead.

Hopefully we can either see something of Nelson that helps us get out this league, or we get some cash for him. If

I’m sure it is.

I’m just making the point that people are happy to slag him off, call him L1 quality etc then have a fit when it is suggested another club could offer £6 mill.

For what it’s worth, I rate him highly as a future PL player and think whoever buys him from us makes a big profit. But people slating him then moaning about the fee can’t have it both ways.

The facts are, we are a L1 club in dire straights, he was a reserve last season so it doesn’t really matter what his importance would be this season. And importantly, a year left so can agree with an overseas club from January.

Basically, if anyone pays £10 mill to us when they can get him for free soon, they are daft. If we put the shoe on the other foot, it was another club quoting us this when we were in the PL, we’d be laughing at them.

Its entirely possible that in a forum of several hundred/thousand people, the ones slagging him off aren’t the ones unhappy about the 6m offer

He's not a reserve cb, he's a 22 yo academy graduate at the very start of his career.  The finished article should be at the very least a Premier League player.  A buying club is buying that potential and its only because we are in dire straits that we should even entertain £10m.

I am simply making the point that due to how we have messed his development up, along with our decline as a club, we are not in a position to demand that. He wasn’t first choice for us last season in a side that we shit and got relegated to the third tier.

The club has a much better grasp of market interest than we do. For instance, we’ve already received bids from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Torino, while Manchester United and West Ham remain interested.

While most of us would have sold McAteer for £3 million, the club managed to secure £12 million. Ultimately, teams aren’t paying for his current output because they are investing in his potential, and I expect we will likely find a middle ground with a buyer around the £8 million mark.

Yeah I would agree here. But you make a good point about potential and not his current output. Most logical people can see this but we seem to have a number of fans who have already written him off as no good.

Why is he reserve? Is that nailed on, what even is a reserve, seriously outdated term. Adds zero relevance to what you saying. Make no mistake, If Ben Nelson is here next year, he is a starting CB. Wild to think otherwise.

Back up, substitute, whatever you want to call it. He started in less than half our games, took a few months to be given any chance at all and was the one dropped again when our other centre backs were hardly any better, despite being experienced and the ones who should have been setting an example.

I’m sure he would start if he stayed this coming season. My point was that he wasn’t a starting member of the team last season so it didn’t really show we valued him. That is the point. If we valued him, he may have been more likely to sign a new contract and we might be able to get more for him. As it is, it’s clear the club and a many fans don’t value him based on his treatment to date.

Sadly he doesn't want to be here, which is a shame because I think he'll thrive next to Souttar. We either let him leave for free next season or get what we can now.

Unlikely either are here by the close of the window.

I don't think Souttar will be here by the end of this month let alone the end of this transfer window.

I like Nelson as a player but he needs to toughen up and get some agression going into his game. Which I suspect he will learn soon.

I disagree, I doubt he’s going to start playing like Wasilewski with a bit of maturity, if anything it lessens. He’s more of a John Stones type defender
