Wallington had big boots to fill following on from Gordon Banks, and then Peter Shilton as the previous two Leicester goalkeepers.

 

I have to say, he didn't let the club down, very good keeper.

Good interview. This passage really stands out:

 

“There was a vital relegation battle against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Jock had put the teamsheet up and if you took me out, the average age was about 19 or 20. He’d selected young lads like Everton Carr and Neville Hamilton.

“So I went to see him and said: ‘Gaffer, we’re fighting for our lives here. Surely you’ve got to go with experience rather than the young lads!’ He just turned to me and said: ‘Well Mark, it doesn’t matter what division we’re in next year, whether it’s the second or the third, these are the lads who’ll be playing.’

“I thought: ‘Gee! He has such a great belief in what he is doing.’ We drew the game 2-2 even though we were down to 10 men because I think Everton Carr got sent off.

“In the end, we came through that and stayed up and, the next season, Jock’s approach obviously paid dividends because we won the Second Division title.”

I remember the disappointment of Shilton leaving but Mark proved to be an outstanding keeper for us.

I think we have been really spoilt over the years with some really good goalkeepers.

Cant believe Andy Feely had to cover up his tattoos back in the day .Loved Wallington, brilliant  keeper,also the days before  massive gloves ,just abit of spit and off you go .

Former Fan of Mark Wallington Remembers….when he told the 10 year old me to “piss off” after I asked him for an autograph as he left a training session.

Great goalkeeper and great guy. I remember being on the train going to the game when he walked into our compartment and gave me and my mate free tickets to the game. Thanks Mark 🙂

Still to this day he's my all time favourite player.

Loved it when the opposition would blaze it over the bar and Wallington  would put his hand above his eyes as it went over 

 

Always remember when we played Barnsley and they got a penalty, it was bloody freezing and I think it was Ian Banks who later signed for us that took it , it hit Wallington on the legs as he dived and you could hear the crowd grimacing as it must of hurt
