Yes, McCarron's "Russell's evidenced his ability" comment was genuinely jaw-dropping. It takes an extraordinary amount of chutzpah to make a comment like that in the knowledge that anybody with a passing knowledge of Martin's career (or just access to the internet) could debunk it within seconds. It makes you wonder whether they went through recruitment process, signed the contract with Martin and did the media stuff and only then somebody said, "Hang on lads,—did we actually have a look at Russell's past record? No? Oh well—too late now...."

I mean technically he has evidenced his ability, in multiple leagues including Scotland as McCarron has said. Just that the evidence obviously points to a very specific level of ability.

Not sure any football club has collected as many talentless people - directors, managers, coaches, players - in one building at one time as we have over the last couple of years. We're the football equivalent of The Room.

My assumption, going back to an interview Martin did with Lineker last year, is that he turned up for an interview to replace Enzo and pulled out because he found out we'd interviewed Steve Cooper too and he felt that indicated a complete missalignment on what identity the club wanted.

So not quite Pre Enzo (although i'm sure he was considered) but I think definitely interviewed for the job in 2024

Ahhh I'm sure I heard his name banded around before he got snapped up by Southampton, I could be wrong though.

Met with the club numerous times - sometimes not in a formal interview process either.

Yeah sorry, not doubting that, I think he was 'interviewed' that time though, officially.

Oh no don't worry about that, my memory get's hazy so I'm inclined to agree you're correct.

I guess my point is that this club isn't agile or adaptive enough to look at someone, and say for instance in Russells case, if he has amassed a poor recent record that we pivot and look at alternatives. This club will in fact deem their historic scouting of individuals as still applicable. You see it with players, I remember Vestergaard was linked at least a window or 2 before we signed him - this is just how we seem to scout.

Sacking RM? I don't have the confidence this club will have anyone in mind they plan to recruit, or if they did, it would presumably be another example of poor recruitment. So I've genuinely no hope of our situation improving until Russell Martins gone, Jon Rudkin is gone, Top is gone and Martyn Glover is gone. I'm sure there are many more names you can throw into that mix, I'd at least give McCarron a chance to prove himself on his own as I do firmly believe Rudkin is still calling the shots. I take his interview with a pinch of salt as I imagine it's a script Anthony or Rudkin has given him.

So yeah, I'm real positive about our future... but I'll be there Saturday (only because my 8 year old is desperate to see us score a goal).

Instinctively want to agree with what he is saying, but his previous job was the shit show at forest. So tbh sometimes in football you can just fluke success like we did

We didn’t fluke success. I don’t think we need to change history based on current failings.

we had some wonderful people at the club, who made good decisions. Those people slowly left. The decision makers at the top are mostly hands off, and that works when surrounded with  smart people.  Our failings aren’t due to medaling, which is often bad for a club, they are down to simple negligence.

when the club had a good scout system and a manager that created a good culture, being handsoff actually enabled us to flourish.

but as time went by, more key parts left and we didn’t know how to replace them.. so yes we got lucky in that way but I’d never say we fluked it… that’s simply unfair on the great people who actually did amazing work at the club.

we rode the waves of what Pearson build here for so long… I don’t think think people really understand how much he built and how those people he brought to the club stayed for a long time due to the success we had. But slowly we lost that and had to get those replacements right… we never did.

I strongly believe Pearson Walsh and shakey did the DOF job so that Rudkin didn’t have to.  There’s a clear reason why Walsh wanted that job after he left… because he was already playing that here just without the credit or title.

The best thing the club could have ever done after the first relegation, would have been to beg for Steve Walsh to come back and move Rudkin to his fake position. It’s honestly crazy we didn’t because I think the job at that time was better than what he’s doing in the MLS:

Perhaps I was being unclear, I meant the Thais fluked it by luckily employing Pearson. Was pure luck rather than a considered choice which is evident by how their ownership has continued since

Didn't expect a crossover between City and bad cinema but here we are

Get the impression that two half-arsed interviews published on the radio at a time when most fans are inside the ground is what the club will see as acceptable. They'll think this will placate fans for a year or so.
