It's interesting how Congerton has been publicly vilified for his disastrous reigns at other clubs and hardly cracks a mention for us

Even when we were the ‘model club’ we probably just about got more wrong than right.

 

Ghezzal and Ward were scandalously bad transfers. Silva, even if we had registered him quickly enough was the wrong age and fee. Praet was a big over spend. Castagne had 12 months left and we spent c. £15m on him.

 

Our academy churned up some gems and Macia had an eye for a player but there was still plenty of the shit LCFC transfer hallmarks. Plus, letting Congerton in the building would obviously be a disaster.

I think we improved in the summer slighly I think Riis Cullen Chaplin Lundstram Ohara have been good additions for where we are and the type of players they are

We're shit across the board at identifying value but our success rate when spending north of £15m is horrible. Even of the scarce few hits on the pitch, only Fofana and Maddison went for a considerable profit.

Our contract management has been especially bad, even in the "we don't know wot Rudkin does, so we can't criticise him" phase we absolutely did know contract negotiations were on him. Not selling players when they were approaching 24 or 12 months left was ridiculous. 4/5 of our record signings left on a free (I think)!

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that coaches, within reason are ten a penny up to premier level where players egos seem to demand someone who has won something? 
Therefore the balance of staff money spent out should be more heavily loaded to recruitment. More money on this and coaching their buys becomes easier?
