In news that will come as a shock to precisely nobody, it turns out that we're one of the worst clubs around for signing players who then decline in value...

I'm actually surprised we're doing better than Spurs. But considering this is in total amounts and not percentages, this table actually flatters us. Also, this figure only shows realised sales compared to the buying price. If you add the appreciation/depreciation of the entire squad's estimated value over the same period of time (for what such estimates are worth), I'm sure we'd rival Man Utd for bottom spot.

Shocking. The correlation between our ranking in this table and our ranking in the actual league tables is incredible. 6 or 7 years ago we'd have been near the top of this table. Goes to show how poor recruitment over a prolonged period can destroy a club.

Is it based on actual sales or just valuation amounts? Surely that would just make it how much a club has lost or made on transfers?

Anyway, I was about to jump in with this. In relative terms, it's way way worse than Spurs because of the both the difference in league affecting values, but then also the amount spent. Tonali drops 20% in value, that's £20m. Skipp drops 80% in value that's somewhere between £16m-£20m. It's actually insane when you consider it.

Absolutely no surprise with this, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Sunderland all use a stats based approach to methodically review and analyse targets based on profile of player that fits into a style of play. They even take the same approach with managers. Brighton lose Caicedo, then replace him with Baleba and then Chema Andres. Its not luck and yes you don't hit the jackpot every time but it shows the consistency in performance even they lose players to the big boys.

We led the same approach, we achieved lots of success, once Pearson and Walsh were gone that system slowly replaced with what we see today and that data says it all.

Long are the days when you have good assets that are sold allowing further investment. We know King Power relied on our ability to churn out those sellable assets but Rudkin led the dim wits insistence on a style we never had the ability to recruit the right style of player for. The revenue stream shrinking and King Power now desperate to sell.

How much have we actually spent in the last 5 years.

We can't have spent much more than the 88 million depreciation which is shocking.

About £225m.

We've spent money on 3 players that have been good in that time (BEK, Fatawu and Hermansen). Even then we managed to just about break even, or make a small loss on two of them.

That system persisted after Pearson and Walsh, in fact it probably got a bit 'smarter' under Macia (2016-2019), Puel and chief analyst Sormaz (2019-2022)

This was then picked apart as the club gave Rodgers too much influence and he doesn't like a data-driven approach. And Rennie left as head of physio too (massively successful under Pearson, Ranieri, Puel) in 2020.

All the above positions were not only replaced with crap but also individuals that aren't aligned to modern, data driven approaches - nevermind Glover's black book and agent led approach

For reference, according to transfermarkt we’ve spent 194m over the last 5 seasons, meaning a loss of 45% on the players we’ve bought in that time.

Hence my use of the words slowly replaced with what we see today 👍

Rudkin is basically the worst there has ever been. He's got the track record and the longevity, which you'll never get the chance to do at virtually any other club.

But we need to remember that he saw us through the good times as well (he didn't).

Genuine top tip for everyone:

Every time work gets on top of you, you make a mistake or feel like something is going wrong professionally, just think of our board and suddenly everything is put into perspective.

There are people out there who are infinitely worse at their job than you are.

It really works.

75k of this spent on Wes Burn who was a free agent 1 month prior

Great signing for league one.

Ignoring the fact he's crap, its just ridiculously bad business to spend any sort of transfer fee on a bloke of his age who was available on a free 4 weeks before.

Funny though

We were the blueprint for other clubs 5-6 years ago! Anyone associated with our strategy since should hand in their resignation, if they've even one iota of pride.
