Dr The Singh Posted 8 February 2006 Posted 8 February 2006 My first paid job was a paper round but my first proper job was at Argos at Kempston Interchange Retails Park. Got paid £4.85 or something like that plus pay and half on sundays! First job was working for my dad on weekends at his engineering factory and never got paid!! I also worked for Supreme Jeans on Narborough road, sweeping up etc and got paid 20p a day, no child labour laws in those days!! I worked for Mcdonalds fosse park for 1 day, i actually had the shortest interview of around 10 minutes and the manager goes "..when can you start??.." I said asap and the next thing I know, i'm frying fries. Luckily I got a job offer on the same day at Asda fosse park!!!

davieG Posted 8 February 2006 Posted 8 February 2006 Mine was as an apprentice in engineering, normal hours were 8 to 5.30 weekdays and 8 to 12.30 saturdays for that i was paid less than £3 / week. I also went to college 3 nights a week from 6 to 9 including Friday nights.
Matt Posted 8 February 2006 Posted 8 February 2006 1st Job (Age 15-16) - Worked selling fish, Not to eat but for Tanks/Tropical Tanks/Ponds...I hated it hated the boss, and for what I was being paid it was slave labour, I worked there for over a year though 2nd Job (Age 16-17) - My first proper job, This is where I started my career had left school, had enrolled at college I was earning and doing something I wanted to do, I was happy there, Until I found out I was a brickies labourer, If I wanted to be a brickie I would have been happy to do the job but I wasn't even learning Brickwork, I felt I was being bullied by the boss (Prehpaps he was just trying to get a reaction out of my - work abit better I don't know it did the opposite) I felt I was mistreated at that job, I was employed there just before the summer then after the summer and really busy time finished at that place the boss said "Sorry but this company isn't helping you and you are not right for us"...Basically all he wanted was a cheap labourer for the summer, when I went to the interview in the first place he made the company sound much bigger that is was, and he made it sound like I would be learning there, e.t.c...None was true. 3rd Job (Age 17-Current) - Working at a shopfitter manufacturers/joiners, Orignally the plan was for me to do site carpentry (i.e - My 2nd job was on site) but I then was advised to learn joinery as it was easier for a joiner to change onto site work rather than a site carpenter to change to joinery so I made that change, and I am at my current job its ok, I do shitty little jobs here but at the end of the day I am the apprentice I expect it, and I am learning more than I did at my other job.
