Thracian Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 Generally real atmosphere is generated by things that happen on the pitch (look at Leeds with the sending off which was much more emotive). The first half-hour was just huff and puff yesterday so the atmosphere stayed flat. In the second half it improved, the Joey/Becks was a big boost and when Welsh came on we started to play some proper football. Altogether just like the Spuirs match, those of us around to see witnesed something a bit special that will stay in our memories for a lifetime. I'm sure glad I stayed but, then, pissed or not, I've never been one to even miss the last minute never mind a whole half.

There's nothing wrong with our support - we have jusy come through a really hard time almost staring relegation in the face, lost a manager and just had the ship steadied. We're not really in any danger and should already be looking towards next year...you can't always have a frenzied atmosphere - but there was certainly nothing wrong at the Leeds game. Why are we calling each other - who cares who sits in L1? As long as they support the team? From what I saw on the tele - it was a great result for us following the first defeat under Kelly. I was also surprised that PT didn't get more stick but it's in the past now lets look forward and hope we can put together a steady team to challenge next year. From what I've seen, we've started the foundations with this settled formation

Steven Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 I have to say that Manwell does have a point. Ok no-one really joined in having a go at Taylor but to be fair to him there were times during the game you cudda heard a pin drop! At times our support has seemed to be absolutely shit but I don't think it is through the fans not singing etc. The problem that we have down at the walkers is that some people in the kop sing, L1 sings. The west stand may as well be a stand of deaf mutes with the amount of support they give and the north stand is full of kids who need song sheets to join in. Thus with only having patches of people around the ground chanting etc there is no way you are going to create a decent atmosphere. Maybe the answer would be to swap the kop down to the north end so at least we are able to drown out 4000 away fans when they all turn up! Surely the point is that the effort is split between L1 and the Kop. If it were as it was at Filbo all the singers/chanters etc would be in one place.

And one of the reasons it was better against Leeds was because something happened early on to get them going...
spirefox Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 After one of the most interesting halves of football I've seen for a long time, this post has left me utterly speechless. It must be a wind up surely.
andyb92 Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 iv been to the new stadium 3 times after having a season ticket down at filbo street for years due to being at uni. I have to say the atmosphere down at walkers stadium is crap, its a nice ground and iam proud as a city fan to be able to say we got a brand spanking new stadium, but at the end of the day for what ever reason its like sitting in a funeral parlour in there. May be a club or fan based initiative to bring some sort of decent atmos is needed? Like song sheets or loadsa balloons streamers etc being set off b4 game.
spirefox Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 The club seem to have absolutely no idea how to solve the problem, except with ill chosen music blasted out of the PA system that everybody hates. Whilst we don't want a "band" we do need "character" fan like the Pompey bell ringer or someboby with a bloody big drum. Trouble is if anybody tried I think they'd get chucked out.

I find difficult to accept people having a go about the atmosphere at the Walkers when they have only managed to go 3times in 4 seasons Uni or not that's pretty poor imo!!! so it was a poor atmosphere in the 3mactches you went to what about the other 80 odd matches played there how can you make judgement on them without actually being there?
Knighton Matt Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 There was a cracking chant of we love you Leicester all round the ground after the final whistle which shows we can do it. I think as someone pointed out earlier we need some inspiration on the pitch to get us going. At least it shows the potential is there and hopefully we can gradually transform ourselves from this "sing when you're winning mentality" to one of constant support for the team throughout the match.
LCFC UK Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 put simply Peter Taylor left Leicester today with little more then a barely audioble boo ringing in his ears. Pathetic. sums up the state of our home suppourt. The atmosphere did sound awful
Muz Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 The atmosphere was the worst It's been all season. Cept for the last 5 mins when we started to put together a few half hearted chants.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 March 2006 Author Posted 5 March 2006 The atmosphere did sound awful Normally I honestly wouldnt care, I'd even go as far to say im use to it unfortunately. Normally I join in with what few songs the kop manage to get going and watch the match. That bloke (Taylor) got off so lightly on Saturday it did infuriate me and I thought if other people dont care why should I. Again i say it was stupid, and probabley a result of sheer frustration orginating from what a bad season we've had on and off the pitch.
Disillusioned Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 Part of the problem is that Rob Kelly's honeymoon period ended with the defeat at Ipswich and, having probably escaped the prospect of relegation, the perception is now that we have little to play for. I wouldn't get all dewy eyed about Filbo. It's the fans that create atmosphere not concrete and steel. It was mighty there under MON because we were doing well and because we had been starved of top flight footie for nearly a decade. Remember what it was like standing on the terraces when the gate was 10,000+ losing against the likes of Rotherham (Levein coughs).
Master Fox Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 I think Taylor got his fair share of abuse yesterday, ok it wasn't constant but I think most of crowd thought maybe it was more important to get behind the team and get three the points rather than abuse Taylor throughout the whole game. I thought the first half was pretty boring myself, and I was expecting more of an atmosphere. But to witness that goal was amazing, I thought he was trying to play Fryatt through but then just saw the ball go over the keeper! Sweet! But beating Hull was a big win for us. I thought this was more important than abusing Taylor with chants from the stands. There was no better way get one over Taylor than to come away with three points, quality goals, and going above his team in league. Perfect was to do it in my opinion! But thing with Taylor is that de admitted he was cr@p, he apologised to the fans for being a complete goon, and im glad he recognises that fact. I don't like Taylor but it's time the fans put that in past and look forward to next season now.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 March 2006 Author Posted 5 March 2006 Manwell's reaction when watching Joeys goal on TV...

I've been there for the rest of the games even if he's not and the atmosphere is crap. I sit in L1 now although I used to sit in the kop (how it can be called the kop is a disgrace) and the atmosphere is far better. It really pisses me off how I'm called a chav for wanting to get behind the team and banter with the away fans. Yesterdays game proves that the people who say 'its come to something when fans can't generate atmosphere without being next to the away fans' are talking b******s. The atmosphere created at filbert st was due to us being able to banter with the away fans and L1 is proving the same. I can count on one hand the amount of chants that came from the carling standers and its these people that are now dotted around the kop. Just because I like to take the piss when the opposition are losing doesn't mean I want a fight. If there is no rivalry between sets of players or fans then what are we all there for? The fact that people sat on their hands yesterday when they could have made the place a fortress of intimidation for the man that nearly killed us proves how far we have fallen not only the pitch but in the stands as well. Up the city!!!
Libertine Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 'Twas very funny when somebody in the kop shouted 'Cheer up you miserable b@stards!'.
Guest Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 The atmosphere will improve with results. As for PT, I don't why you'd want to waste al at time and effort on the pathetic little man; he probably loves the attention, and it gives him the excuse to say 'poor me, see how they pick on me'. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction.

I can count on one hand the amount of chants that came from the carling standers and its these people that are now dotted around the kop. It used to be banter, now it's a bunch of kids who think that singing "small town in Aresenal" at the Spurs fans is the future. At Filbert Street, there was the usual orchestrated parade of chants, but there was enough spontaneity about as well. "Who let the frogs out" (considered one of the best chants of all time) was not pre-planned on the 'net, or in the pub. Those days have long gone, or so it would seem. The problem with atmosphere at the WS is down to on-pitch performance inducing apathy amongst he supporters, not because we are not next to the away fans, or that we all apparently sat in the Carling Stand, which you know is not true.
Master Fox Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 I don't sit in L1 but I think the people who sit in L1 and sing their hearts out every week are great. Shame on the other fans who call them chav fighting scumbags. If we didn't have that little pocket of fans in there then we wouldn't have any atmosphere at all. Good luck to L1 fans I think you're great! If i had the choice I would love to sit in L1, so next season I know where I'll be buying my season ticket!
Guest Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 The club seem to have absolutely no idea how to solve the problem, The club?? Talk about pasing the buck! What do realistically expect the club to do about the atmosphere? The only thing they can do is win more games!!

Is this the same L1 I saw half leaving for their pie/pint/fag/loo 5 minutes before the HT whistle, and turning up 5 minutes after the restart!! Now that's top support!!!
