Daggers Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 I can't believe the nonsense that fills the England-TT thread... you guys are either on drugs, alcohol or have a real problem with reality. T&T had a game plan and stuck to it - well played to them, and it took us a long time to break it down. But break it down we did. That was a solid performance from the team that any side would have been proud of. You all seem to live in a Football MAnager[tm] world where it is possible to amass large scores against weak opposition - What we achieved tonight was deserved, hard fought for and justified. Fortunately, those of you calling for Lampard to be removed for the next game will not have a say in the actual team selection. Well done T&T for playing so well. Well done England for keeping on in there until the end. C'mon England!

C'mon England! i was watching a team who couldn't pass, never closed anybody down (i saw gerrard on several occations just stand there as a tat player fannied about on the ball right next to him). player playing with no verve, no passion. beckhams dead balls were woeful, lampards shooting was wayward etc etc
Bert Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 The only reason players will/should be dropped for the next game is simply so they don't get injured for the important games ahead, we're through, why risk anyone when we can keep them fresh? I thought we played well, people don't realise how hard it really is to play against 11 men behind the ball, we created enough chances to win 5-0, Crouch 1st half, Lampard's voley, Owen's miss-knee of the ball. I said in another thread, that no matter what happens peopel will find fault, and for me that is a major reason why we never really prevail in tournaments, cos these moaners, knock players confidence. Get behind the lads and be proud of them!
Benji Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 We got 3 points, pleases me. Some people may feel the need to take apart tonights performance and see what needs to change. But i'm not being paid thousands to do it If we win the world cup this way, i wouldn't complain

C-man Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 if you're happy with poor passing, poor crossing, poor free kicks, poor positioning etc against league one players and falkirk reserves then i'm happy for you Why does it matter if we win games? If we played like this every game and won the World Cup would you still be saying that? Thats improbable, but it's improbable every team will stick 11 men behind the ball like Trinidad and Tobago did today. And can you please explain what Carrick provides us with more than Lampard?

Well done England for keeping on in there until the end. C'mon England! I agree with you Dscmbbltd - nearly. Two games, six points, plenty of chances, plenty more in the tank. I'm quite happy with our progress so far. The midfield is ok, put hasn't been tested against a potential winner, and might not be until the QF. I get the impression that Lampard and Gerrard are still a bit "after you, Claude" at times. Exchanging Lamps for Cazza against Sweden (a team who will probably need to win, thus ensuring a proper examination) will give us an alternative viewpoint on the midfield situation. Possibly a bit more symmetry in midfield, allowing Gerrard to play in midfield as he might do in front of Hamann, for example. Or as Lampard does in front of Makalele. It's a tough call to leave out such a quality player, but on the other hand, if he comes on after 60 mins in the knockouts and the game goes into extra-time, he'll be driving forward to the end, and would be able to take a peno, should it be needed.

C-man Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 because lampard has been piss poor and we need a ball winner (its all in another thread) anyhow, do you relly see us getting past (much) better teams playing like we have done so far? Carrick isn't a great tackler anyway. Lampard is just as good and can pass equally as well. Unfortunately i dont think we would beat better teams if we played like that. If we improve we can. We're playing badly and winning, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Ricey Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 I'm not feeling negative about earlier, as we won, but the faults were clear so of course people will note them. T&T tried so hard to give England no room, which caused us problems and resulted in us playing the straight ball to Crouch or Owen (which didn't work). Luckily that changed with the subtistutions but even then some of our passing and positional play was poor. Better performance than Paraquay, let's hope it carries on getting better.

Unfortunately i dont think we would beat better teams if we played like that. If we improve we can. We're playing badly and winning, which is not necessarily a bad thing. the carrick thing, is just because we need a defensivley minded midfielder, as lampard and gerrard just don't work as both want to get forward, which leaves the defence exposed (thank god for john terry!!!) people used to slag batty off but he allowed his attack minded partner to get forward knowing batty was there to clear up. hopefully we will improve and as you say we are playing badly, but at least we have the points. at least sweden are looking shit too!
Suffolk_fox Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 England, just like Leicester, rarely do things the easy way. If we qualify for anything it is usually down to the wire, or play offs. I think we played as well as alot of the 'Top Teams' have so far, the opening gambits seem to be 'minimum force', though I must admit we do need to work on keeping posession and better passing. What a difference Lennon made, their 10 man defence was a bit more stretched.
Matt Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 STOP MOANING! [Don't know who this is aimed at because I havn't read most of the thread, but someones obviously been moaning]
Daggers Posted 15 June 2006 Author Posted 15 June 2006 STOP MOANING! [Don't know who this is aimed at because I havn't read most of the thread, but someones obviously been moaning] For the life of me, I don't get where people have a problem. The only reason is that they a niave and don't appreciate how a game of football is actually played. Of course, it would be lovely to see Brazilian passing and glory goals ... but we have just played two teams that close down the space and make it very difficult in the final third. What we have amply demonstrated is that despite playing against such defensive teams we can scrap and score ~ and that is bloody great! Oh, Stezoh, yes I think we can win against others and I think that Lampard played a valuable role today. against league one players and falkirk reserves then i'm happy for you Thank fudge for that - at least something has made you happy you miserable badstard
Bert Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 STOP MOANING! [Don't know who this is aimed at because I havn't read most of the thread, but someones obviously been moaning] Love it matt I said in another thread no matter what, England will get bad press. People need to get off thier high horses and get behind the team. Oh and btw Lampard is the 2nd best central midfielder we have, if your not happy with that, you go and do a better fricking job.
Ultra Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 if you're happy with poor passing, poor crossing, poor free kicks, poor positioning etc against league one players and falkirk reserves then i'm happy for you Exactly. Lampard played today like Gareth Williams on sedatives.
Ultra Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Carrick isn't a great tackler anyway. Lampard is just as good and can pass equally as well. In theory, yes. In reality, he's having a dreadful tournament. A better manager than Sven would recognise this and rest him.
Ultra Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Oh and btw Lampard is the 2nd best central midfielder we have, if your not happy with that, you go and do a better fricking job. Lampard is officially rated the second best midfielder in the world... But the last two games have shown how much ratings can lie. He's been dreadful. Mourinho wouldn't put up with this, and neither should Sven. Carrick MUST start against Sweden..
SystonFox Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 why change a winning side? lampard hasnt played well but did anyone see how much space there was in the middle of the park in the sweden vs paraguay game and i think lampard can take advantage of that
C-man Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 Lampard is officially rated the second best midfielder in the world... But the last two games have shown how much ratings can lie. He's been dreadful. Mourinho wouldn't put up with this, and neither should Sven. Carrick MUST start against Sweden.. Your point is what? Surely ratings do not go over several games. That's called form. And when has Carrick played well for England? Him on good form is still not as good as Lampard in bad form.
macbeth Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 after a night out on the strong stuff ; the next day i wake up and convince myself that i didn't make such an arse of myself as i actually did england fans drunk on false hope are doing the same ; yes we managed to stagger home but but pretending this piss poor karaoke performance is good enough to win the X factor is self delusory ; asses need to be kicked
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 It reminded me a lot of the Northern Ireland game. It is a difficult type of game against opponents who are used to the heat, will close down all day and against whom you are expected to win by five or six goals. I wasn't happy during the game but looking back, I don't particularly care how we played, we won and that was the important thing. On the other hand, the team that worries me most is Ecuador. They will close down and are used to the heat but they can counter attack brilliantly and score decent goals as well. If we are not on our game in the second round we will go out, regardless of whether we play Germany or Ecuador. They would both stuff us if we don't play well in my opinion.
macbeth Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 look into my eyes- look into my eyes- not around the eyes directly into my eyes- you will believe england to have played a great game , you will not i repeat NOT think it was a pile of crap. 3-2-1 you're back in the room
