England were poor against a side that would struggle week in week out in the Fizzy or League 1. Wake up.:cry::huh::unsure::whistle::ph34r::rolleyes::( <_<

I'd rather have Flampard than Gerrard for England any day, the bloke's useless (like another John Barnes) great for 'Pool, shite for England!!!

imo the only reason Lampard and Gerrard are so poor is that to keep Beckham in the side you have to destroy the style of play of the 2best midfielders in the country!! Put Gerrard on the right where he plays for Liverpool, stick Carrick and Lampard in the centre wind em up and watch em go!!!

But then I think we'd miss Beckham too much at set pieces.

What about Beckham in the centre with Gerrard, Lennon on the Right?

I think credit has to go to T&T for making it so hard for us to score, yes they might be made up of league 1 players but if you put enough bodies behind the ball its always going to be hard to get goals.

I thought Lampard & Gerrard played alright. How can anyone give England stick? We're into the next round and we haven't even played that well yet. There's a lot to come from England yet i feel.

Lampard is officially rated the second best midfielder in the world... :o:o:o

But the last two games have shown how much ratings can lie. He's been dreadful.

Mourinho wouldn't put up with this, and neither should Sven.

Carrick MUST start against Sweden..

I dont even think Lampard has played that badly. He's average performances have been made to look poor due to poor finishing. He's overall play in my eyes has been ok. No way near dropping him form.

Not if you play with more attackers and lots of width as Sven did second half. As soon as a back-peddling defence has to deal with people who can beat players (like Lennon) and with width being made on either flank, it is in desperate trouble.

Just as an aside I wonder if Sven will use Beckham behind Lennon again. Roberto Carlos even at 36 remains a constant threat for Brazil and I wonder if Beckham is capable of reinventing himself in that sort of role on the right.

Certainly Carragher falls short in that position by a distance.

If it happened - what with the two Cole men on the left - we would suddenly have the sort of attacking threat I have so pleaded for at Leicester. Ah well, just a silly dream I suppose. And yet to be tested against better teams but I do believe speed, skill and attacking ability is vital to modern defenders.

John Terry and Ashley Cole are excellent examples and Gary Neville too when fit.

I'm sure that's where he plays for Real Madrid, well at least in some of the games I've seen! :ermm: i'm not too sure though...

I don't know if we would though some of the freekicks he took yesterday were dying to be hit by a left footer, most of them were a total waste as well and he hasn't scored direct from a free kick for England for something like 4years it's all a bit of a myth really and I am sure the likes of Lampard and Gerrard, Rooney and even Joe Cole could be equally as effective!!

oh and Beckham simply can't run anymore, he can't get past defenders to drag them out wide and create space for others like Lennon did when he came on, and he is so unmobile it's untrue everytime he gets the ball he seems to take one touch and then hoof it wherever he is on the park which results in long wastefull balls, the Beckham of old used to get the ball and run at defenders and terrorise them and he just isn't upto that anymore

Beckham never ran at defenders, even when he was young. His game has always been to get crosses in and deliver accurate passes around the park, something of which he is still the best in the world.

One thing he did use to do though was constantly close players down, he used to have great stamina and never stopped running around however he rarely does this anymore.

At least someone knows what they're talking about.

In time as the players get used to the conditions they'll come good, i just wish people would stop being negative, and get behind the lads.

From the BBC. :cry::cry::huh::unsure::whistle:

Steven Gerrard admits England have no chance of winning the World Cup if they continue to play as they did against Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago.

if you're happy with poor passing, poor crossing, poor free kicks, poor positioning etc against league one players and falkirk reserves then i'm happy for you

You like to pick faults and have a moan because you think you know better. Do you Feck.

paraguay and T&T, two teams who knew they were the weaker side against england, had to play a defensive game to try and get something out of them, similarly in a style to Greece in 2004.

The real england performances will come against better sides who will be more attacking and so England will have more options and room as gaps will appear against stronger teams on the counter attack.

wait and see

I agree with you Tom, They knew if they played thier normal games that we would tear them to bits, and as one of the favourites any result against us is a victory for everyone else. The bigger teams will not be as afraid as the smaller nations, then we can suck them in and do what we're best at by hitting them on the counter, just wait and see on Tuesday, Sweden will need to attack to progress and we can play our own game from that.
