Mark Posted 20 June 2006 Posted 20 June 2006 If the nasty 4-5-1 formation is forced upon us then, Robinson Carragher Terry Ferdinand A. Cole Lennon Lampard Hargreaves Gerrard J. Cole Rooney
Ultra Posted 20 June 2006 Author Posted 20 June 2006 Much as we would like to believe otherwise, Sven doesn't have the nerve to drop Beckham, especially at this stage. So unless he picks up an injury or suspension, we're stuck with him both as a player and a captain..

Thracian Posted 21 June 2006 Posted 21 June 2006 Robinson; Beckham, Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole; Lennon, Gerrard, Hargreaves or Carrick, Joe Cole; Rooney, Crouch. The system allows for a balanced 4-5-1 if that's inevitable but I would go for twin attackers on either flank because I don't believe our defence will keep the best attacks at bay so we need to score goals and we will not get enough with Carragher tilting our balance towards defence. I cannot see this team happening however because Chosen Men are even more apparent in the England set-up than Leicester's and Lampard's place is booked, you can be sure. So is Beckham's though I cannot see Mr Excitement going for Becks as an attacking right back. Expediency seems an eternal problem nowadays with managers seemingly more concerned with accommodating the more high profile players than picking the best team. The Owen saga has already illustrated the folly of this approach. One risk (Rooney) was defensible, two in the same squad was recklessly stupid. Oh yes and I'd also make John Terry captain and, for once, drum it into their heads not to go sitting on leads.
Leicester Lass Posted 21 June 2006 Posted 21 June 2006 England's Rio Ferdinand will need intensive treatment on his groin injury to be fit for Sunday's second round game against Ecuador. The centre-half suffered the injury in the first half of the draw with Sweden and had to be replaced by Sol Campbell 11 minutes after the break. But manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is confident Ferdinand will recover: "I don't think it's a big injury. "We tried it but it did not get better but I think he will be all right." Eriksson added: "He had a little groin problem which we knew about at half-time. He got some treatment on it but we didn't want to risk it." England are already likely to be without fellow Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who has a calf problem.
Master Fox Posted 21 June 2006 Posted 21 June 2006 MF ..........you've turned into val d'rama........why? No, I've just put a little colour in my hair. You know as it's summer and all that...
Strokes Posted 21 June 2006 Posted 21 June 2006 Robinson Carrager Terry Ferdinand Bridge Beckham Carrick Gerrard Lennon/Downing J.Cole Rooney Not quite sure how cole and rooney can play up front together, we need somebody to play on the shoulder of the defence, but the only option for that in the team is Walcott and i don't think he is good enough.
