Chairman of the Bored Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Im guessing White because they play in yellow, but we could also play in red. Spot on. We're wearing white - which should help against the heat (well, about 000.1%). That will be a major factor. Stuttgart is searing today according to the Radio. I have a dreadful feeling it will go wrong, but then I always do. Just wish we were playing tonight instead. All the same, C'mon England!!
MC Prussian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Would like to see England winning it. Well, there's no other way.
Deathside Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 This shall be the 1st england game of this world cup that I watch in full (Unless I get bored and switch over to Kerrang's coverage of Download 2006
Jay Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 This shall be the 1st england game of this world cup that I watch in full (Unless I get bored and switch over to Kerrang's coverage of Download 2006 you bored yet? it's very dull so far
Daggers Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 *Disgusted* *Bored* What is that team doing? No shape, no passing, no will, no defence. This was the time to stamp some kind of impression of ambition but they can't do it. How many times have I heard "we know we can play better" only to see them play badly again? Too many. Sack the manager!
stez Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 you bored yet? it's very dull so far my guess is deatside's turned over
Thracian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 It was like watching a day old dead body and waiting for it to wake up. Marks out of 10 barely four. The only thing I'd pay the coaches in is sackloads opf manure cos what they've overseen so far is shit. They could write a thesis on the theory of how to make decent players perform badly. The passing is truly attrocious and Ecuador should have taken the easiest chance on earth to be leading 1-0. I'm not sure whether alcohol or England send me to sleep faster.
nhfox Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 you bored yet? it's very dull so far Not the most exciting game. Rooney's hardly touched the ball.
MC Prussian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Phew... England has won it, but not very convincingly... It's going to be tough against the Netherlands...
Thracian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 I agree with you lads but to listen to the superlatives coming out from Hanson and the tame television pundits it sounds like they've given a bucket of must-use words and all of em are full of praise. Rooney did this, Rooney did that, England were this, England were that. I must have been watching with my eyes closed. It's like listening to a commentary team full of wide boys detemined to sell you the Kings New Clothes as the passport to invisibility.
Steven Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Phew... England has won it, but not very convincingly... It's going to be tough against the Netherlands... We will be hard pushed to beat the Netherlands or Portugal. <_<

It's like listening to a commentary team full of wide boys detemined to sell you the Kings New Clothes as the passport to invisibility. It's something I've noticed here back home in Switzerland while watching games on German TV stations. I believe that the media play a huge part in the whole WC affair, with appraisals or condemnations. And the sad part is, people believe it. And once you bring up valid points that contradict the current flow of opinions, peole either declare you being "nuts" or start a personal vendetta against you, trying to extinguish the "weed". The German media are so completely biased towards their own National Squad, it's unbelieveable. But probably the same in the U.K. They can play shit, the opponent can play shit (like the Ecuadorian B-Squad or Sweden yesterday)... If they've won, the media will put it their way and declare that it was because of how "great" the team was... Bollocks. The truth is on the pitch.
Ultra Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Today we saw yet another abysmal performance by a bunch of lazy, over-paid,over-rated, brain-dead ****wits. We scraped a victory because their keeper fumbled a free-kick over his own line in an act which made Spider Kalac look competent. Folk are rejoicing because we've made the quarter-finals. Big deal. Look at how little we've had to beat to get there. From now on in the opposition will be in a different league and our clueless, uninspiring management team will be exposed as out of their depth. A Mourinho, Ferguson, Wenger, Benitez or O'Neill would not have stood for the witless garbage our so-called superstars delivered today and in previous matches. Sven's tactic of over-indulgence didn't work and will be savagely punished next week. Quality teams like Brazil, Argentina and even the Germans will put five past us if we continue to serve up the dross that's been on offer so far. On the evidence of what we've witnessed at this tournament, we are the worst team left in it by some distance. That's some achievement, given that France and Australia are still in it..
MC Prussian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 It's the players that play crap and the poor choice of players made by the squad manager that could lead to England's downfall in the next round. Although, I'd much rather want to see the Germans falter...
Daggers Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Folk are rejoicing because we've made the quarter-finals. Big deal. Look at how little we've had to beat to get there. Not in my street! Today is the quietest I have heard it ever. No one is celebrating anything. It is not about the result ~ those days ended when Venables showed the country that we could expect more from our team ~ it is about the performance. I was prepared to accept below par performances in the group stage, but not now. I have seen nothing to inspire me, nothing to entertain me. Again, the captain failed to act like one and the manager seemed to be AWoL. I was disgusted that they paraded around the pitch at the end - they should have gone straight to the changing room to start writing 55,000,000 letters of apology.
Anish Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 I can't believe what I'm reading. People call me a moaner but you guys take the biscuit. We may have been poor in the 1st half but in the second half we were comfortable and looked worthy winners. So what if we didn't play the cavalier 'all out attack' card that some of you crave? Ecuador barely caused us any problems bar the Terry mistake, and we could and should have scored at least 2 or three more but for some poor shooting yet again from Lampard. I can criticise like the best of them but I was happy with that performance. Some people are just never happy unless you play like Brazil.

Well said Anish It's a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. You can only beat what's in front of you and although this wasn't a great performance they got the result. Don't forget in qualifying for the finals Ecuador beat Brazil so even though we beat them they weren't exactly push overs

Spot on, there aren't half some moaning grumpy postyers in this thread. We played decent, not great but far better than in the group stages. I feel happy with the performance, apart from Gerrard I think everyone played well.

Thracian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 I'm sorry. That bore no relaion to the football I used to love and get thrilled about. I would rather they buy a facsimile World Cup to display somewhere that gives an impression of importance and achievement if that's the only way they'll convince themselves they can do anything but turn my beloved game into something of inconsequence. You are welcome to it Anish. You really are. The words "they know not what they do" come to mind. People will do anything for money and this is just another example. If I had my way I would banish SGE to somewhere like the Galapogas Islands where he can play to his hearts content with the lizards, turtles and puffins or whatever else they have there. Anything to keep him away from football. He transforms the potential thrills of football into something akin to the card game of patience - just one long banal routine. Even if he wins the World Cup with this sort of offering I shall get no satisfaction from it. It will be on a par with watching a flop film from the world's great actors. As an advertisement for football SGE manages to turn every England scene into a the equivalent third rate horror - except the good guy just manages to win.
Ultra Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 This tournament has produced some of the highest quality of football seen at the World Cup in decades. Sadly very little of it has come from England. I could expect one or two below-par team performances along the line, but FOUR in a row?... Face it, folks, Sven is not a World Cup winning manager and Beckham is definitely NOT a World Cup winning skipper.

Thracian Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 I'm an argumentative sod but I couldn't agree more with that. And if by some quirk of fate they do win, that will be worse becuase it will give carte blanche for everyone else to follow suit and play football the Sven way. And, for me at least, I fear a 50-year association with the game will be finally ended. There are already too many Svens in football - and while there are fans like Anish they will always have a job I guess.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 25 June 2006 Posted 25 June 2006 Under the circumstances (the heat, the injuries, the actual quality of the squad - as opposed to the over hyped "it's the best team in generations" bullshit we get from the press etc) we did ok. Not a brilliant performance but I think we're moving in the right direction. We have to be realistic. We've got an average squad, we're not as good as....lists....Italy, Argentina, Brazil etc etc, we've got a tactically nieve manager who lacks passion....but we're in the last 8 and they will be 24 teams that aren't. Get behind the team, stop moaning. Try running around for 10 mins in 35c let alone 90. Get real.
