willy37 Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 so with the sad news that muzzy will be quitting the game, does anyone thing leicester will give him a testimonial match? a good idea would be against chelsea, where he started his career.
The People's Hero Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 Would have been more likely if he hadn't left.
Leicester Lass Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 It would be great but I agree with TPH on this one.
Stevosevic Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 Dont they do testimonials for 10 years service? Muzzy did 8.

No way should he or any other pro who has played in the Premiership get a testimonial these days, he has made an absolute mint out of the game and if he hasn't then more fool him and his advisors. Izzet gave us great service, but he was extremely well paid for doing so, he doesn't deserve another bundle from us IMHO.
davieG Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 Have a testimonial by all means but all proceeds to go to the LCFC recruitment fund or the Academy.
Bert Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 I'm sure Muzzy has it in his heat to donate all proceeds, after all he does love the club, we gave him his break and he spent the most successful part of his career here, where he won many awards!

Bert Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 really? Playoff final winner League Cup winner X2 Goal of the season (not sure how many) Player of the season (Again not sure how many) Carling player of the month.....
Ricey Posted 28 June 2006 Posted 28 June 2006 Judging by the OS, the club are reluctant to acknowledge Muzzy's career.
The People's Hero Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Testimonials are usually awarded where the player in question has turned down 'superior' economic opportunities in order to remain loyal to the current club. It's a 'thankyou', a 'recognition of loyalty and service' and a little 'financial golden goodbye'. Muzzy made a shed load of money here and then left to make a shed load more at Birmingham.

Agreed, no real need, plus he didn't really end his career at city!!!

True, be nice to acknowledge his contribution to the O'Neill years though in a way. Proceeds to Steve Smith or something. Shame we haven't had a decent testimonial in yeeeears.

Muzzy was at the prime of his career but stayed with us for the season despite getting offers. At the time everyone was saying that such loyalty was a real rarity and it was (it still is). He was loyal to this club and that's why no-one was annoyed at him for leaving. Bearing in mind he would probobly make most people's team of City legends, was an absolute rolemodel and showed more loyalty then you can ever expect from a professional in any sector let alone football I think a testimonial is the least Muzzy deserves. Having said that I can't imagine he'd keep the money for himself but would donate it all to charity as most decent players do these days. Usually it's for 10 years service but he gave us 8 fantastic years and surely we can afford to give him a fitting send off!
Surreal Madrid Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 What an idiotic idea. He did really well for us, was really well paid, then ran down his contract to do a Bosman - nothing wrong with that, but I don't think that qualifies for a testimonial.
Ultra Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 Unless it was stated in advance that the proceeds would be going to charity, the idea's a non-starter. It's not as if he needs the money.
Ricey Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 A testimonial-style match would be good to say goodbye to Muzzy and to celebrate his career, with all proceeds going to charity of course.
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 June 2006 Posted 29 June 2006 This is all a bit silly, he didnt end his carear with us and he fooked us off for more money. Plus we seem to have overlooked the fact his Knee is bolloxed and he wouldnt be able to play, so we'd have a Muzzy Izzet testimonial, with the funds not going to Muzzy Izzet ( as we seem to have decided ) and without Muzzy Izzet playing in it. Pointless.

It'd be great fun - if only to see TPH and Ian Marshall dancing arm-in-arm, Special Brew in hand like some bizarre Shane McGowan tribute act.

And can't it be about something other than money? The man's career is over at around 30, he should be able to get a good send off reardless of whether he needs the money or not - we owe him that for the memories. Then bring him back as a coach - would love to see more ex players (Walshy, Elliot, Lennon in the future?) still involved with the club, it would help bring continuity and instill some of that old spirit.

But because they are ex players doesn't mean they will be good coaches and in terms of Walshy and Elliott certainly not!! I mean a certain Matt Elliott ALLEGEDLY had a big drink problem and turned up for matches pi55ed and had to be helped onto the coach before a certain game at Wolves, is that the sort of thing you want to teach young pros? + do you really think for the last few years he was here for the love of the club or becuase we paid him £30k per week? They were great servents for the club but lets leave it at that to be fair and I am sure Muzzy will come to a few games and the Birch will bring him onto the pitch if he doesn't get sacked
