Just watched Ballerina and I enjoyed it, fits right in to the John Wick universe.

The end credits

A guilty pleasure of mine, a movie that left a lasting impression on me the first time it was shown on TV:

Of course, without Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen and Katherine Ross, it'd only be half as fun (and big).

Its an old film, often shown on Film4 but it has one of the best flip the narrative endings, the Caine Mutiny.

Starring Humphrey Bogart, you see a new enlistee joining a destroyer during WW2.

Bogart joins as the captain a bit later in the movie and the story makes you dislike him, leading to a mutiny during a typhoon when he begins to crack under the pressure.

Theres a court martial for one of the officers who lead  the mutiny and the defending officer wins the case for the accused.

Then the big switch, he tells the crew they were mutineers and proves it whilst painting one of the good guys as a coward and sneak, you never saw that coming until late in the movie.

Not only a good film but led to Michael Caine taking the name

Yup,  the acting is top notch but the writing is so clever and apparently stuck closely to the book it was based on.

Agreed. All those elements coming together some of which the viewer doesn't often think about. Must admit a big fan of some of the old films be they colour or black and white

Just to add love a good courtroom drama at the centre of a film. 12 Angry Men and Paths of Glory come to mind though of course the court martial is  only a part of the latter picture

Got a large dvd/bluray collection and  a fair few B+W movies, one of my fave horror movies is Night of the Demon, just love that movie.

Doing a A Quiet Place binge-watch. Well, only parts I and II (the London sequel doesn't have great reviews and It's just not the same without John Krasinski and Emily Blunt).

Fantastic premise, great execution. Challenging, but very rewarding.

We need more movies like these in this day and age. CGI yes, but only sparingly..

The third one was actually not that bad, I guess peeps did not like the ending.

I thought the quite place movies were a bit odd. Why don't people just live in noisy places so they can talk and be normal like at the waterfall?

Health & Safety wouldn't allow it without ear defenders so they took their chances elsewhere?

That only works for people already living in large enough cities, though.

I suppose it's because of the noise made while travelling. Cars are out of question, walking is dangerous (without a proper underground).
You just can't wander around without attracting... attention.

This is hinted at at one point in the first movie, as we see other bonfires around the farm one night – and later on, they're all gone.

Sicario.

8/10

Made the mistake of watching this at home for the first time and didn't really appreciate it as much as I could have. A brilliant film,, with an absolutely stunning cast - Blunt, del Toro, Brolin, Bernthal and Kaluuya, all brilliant in whatever they're in.

Benicio Del Toro is soo good in this, particularly towards the end.

Pretty much anything Denis Villeneuve touches as a director turns to gold.

Rewatched Prisoners the other night. You can tell when a director is special by the choices they make. Everything from the shot composition, length, blocking, editing - all contribute to a film just feeling different. Villeneuve is an absolutely top, top tier filmmaker. A perfect choice for Bond.

Been watching all the bonds every Sunday and now up to the Craig ones. Must say, I’ve absolutely loved it haven’t watched them since I was a kid so was a bit worried it would be like when I tried to watch Star Wars again. You cannot beat a bond film

Baby Driver.

Thoroughly entertaining, with a particular style.. or is it cadence?

I also like the music choices.

Sadly, the movie loses some of its charm and momentum towards the end, because it focuses on style rather than substance.

They also overdo it on the in-sync editing.

No news on the sequel, though.

Taylor Sheridan really does know his stuff.

Watched 28 Years Later last night. Wasn’t expecting much after the reception it got and it was flawed in many ways but actually really enjoyed it. And I’ve heard LOTS of people hated the ending but I thought it was good. Solid 7/10 for me. And that zombie schlong. 🤤
