Seen Species again after many, many years.

Dated fairly well, considering the state of CGI back then. By no means a great movie, but decent and entertaining.

Amazed at how thin Alfred Molina used to be. lol

And I totally forgot Michelle Williams played young Sil.

 

6/10

 

I won't watch any of the sequels, as they're allegedly a lot worse.

Just came back from watching Spiderman Brand New Day, I found it was alright. Maybe not a great as No Way Home, however I kind of expected any Spidey film to follow that would find it hard to live up or even better what I think is the best Spiderman film. I found like this one took more of a dark edge and toned down quirky comic moments. Movie is 2hr 20mins and to be fair long movie I never felt the length, which showed the movie had great pacing and you know the effects were pretty good, I didn't even see it in 3d and shots where Spidey swinging around did you make you feel dizzy.  Tom Holland is smashing it as Spiderman and for me is going down as the best Spiderman, he seems to be able to handle the action, comic and emotional scenes well. 

 

Why is only "alright" for me this movie felt more like an another Spiderman episode, another day for Spiderman saving New York City (Glasgow) with another unique powerful villain. In other words a filler episode or this case a filler movie. Fans will still like it, mainly for performances and effects. Perhaps some will enjoy it more for being just a stand alone Spiderman movie, without the multiverse versions cropping up. By the way not really a spoiler... but the post credit scene is pointless and not worth staying for. Wouldn't be surprised if they either forgot to film it or haven't decided where to take Spiderman next and added it in last minute. Quite disappointed reaction from the audience in the cineworld who were like "we waited for just that"  7/10 go and see it in cinema for the effects.

Yeah it was pretty decent. A few minor flaws and the first hour drags too much, but it was a return to form for Marvel.

Solid B-Noir, and I can see the influence on Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs" now.

Very good film. Had a little controversial scene although tame by today's standards. I do film noir as a genre.  Have you seen Kubrick's The Killing?

You mean the two-shot of Mr. Brown and the missus, where he "goes down"? They discuss that in a bonus feature.

 

The recent 4K Blu-ray is great, it comes with another noir, The Crooked Way (1949), on the second disc.

 

I have The Killing on disc, too. Pretty much all Kubrick movies (not the new Criterion boxset, though).

 

My favourites: It Happened In Broad Daylight (Vajda, Switzerland/Germany, 1958) and pretty much anything by Melville.

Hope you enjoy.  Jack Warner in it but Dixon Of Dock Green it ain't. Lots of location shots of Brighton when it was a bit seedy in the 60s makes for a good atmosphere for this type of film

Had a quick look. Looks very good. I usually watch these films with my wife. She might find the subject matter a bit upsetting. Of course I recognise the Goldfinger actor. I also noticed the pedlar bloke was in The Train with Burt Lancaster

Enjoyed Spider-Man. Bit long maybe but plenty of heart and some great performances, particularly Zendaya who I thought was excellent.

I think the villain is really weak and not exactly true to their character...not to mention certain decisions they make are irredeemable in terms of making you believe they're actually a "good person". Definitely the biggest flaw of the film, because other than maybe it feeling a bit bloated with characters, the action is brilliant and Tom's best performance probably as Peter!

 

I agree though it's not as good as No Way Home :)

I actually quite enjoyed this film even if was so far removed from the tone and content of the series.  Be good to see a different cut of the film.

Hope you like it. Good director Roy Baker and excellent cast. As well as John Mills, Richard Attenborough, Nigel Patrick, George Cole, Bernard Lee etc.
