Foxhateram Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 of course a great player for leicester back in the 94/95 season, our first in the premiership! scored alot of goals and was an exelent player, with pace and the rare abitlity to actually read the game. Shame some our strikers now cant take a leaf out of his books. but what does everyone else remember and think of him?
Cobbo Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 He barely payed in that season cos he had a broken foot. he was great for 92-93 and 93-94 Loved the lad, but injury blighted the latter years of his Leicester career, think he might have got burnt out a bit and too much rough treatment from the early 90's thugs of division one
Head Honcho Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 Above average player for us, pity he wasn't a few inches taller could have been an excellent player if he was, I always thought it was his height that let him down. Scored some cracking goals mind!
BartonFox Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 He was okay, but if you stood off him a yard you could easily knick the ball off him, he had no first touch at all. Stevie Foster aged 50 or something had him in his back pocket the night Brighton dumped us out the League Cup at Filbert Street. Stragne thing that because Emile Heskey had no first touch either, that was until he Houllier got hold of him. Must have been a problem with our development path in thosedays.
Nationwider Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 Scored some cracking goals mind! His partnership with Walshie was good fun, and he scored some spectacular goals. His strike rate at Villa was respectable too. I can see him and Barry Conlon getting 40-odd league goals between them this year, which should push Darlo towards League One.
Daggers Posted 30 August 2006 Posted 30 August 2006 For some reason I stood at Roker Park shouting out "Jason"...as in "Go on Jason" and "Well played Jason"... until my brother reminded me I was being a stupid drunken oaf. It's my favourite JJ memory. Sorry.
lildave3 Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 He was so good i named my old dog after him (Jules not julian )
Nationwider Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 According to Wikiwawa, Jules got the call for St Vincent and the Grenadines in 2000, and actually got off the plane before someone pointed out he'd already played for England U-21. Is this true? Seems a bit far-fetched....
Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 One of my warmest memories of watching Leicester, Joachim skipping down the right wing, cutting in towards goal and barrelling shots past various goalkeepers. And the crowd responding... "Juuuuuuulian... Juuuuuuuuuulian..." He was unplayable at the height of his powers.
hairy Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 He barely payed in that season cos he had a broken foot. I heard at the time he had had his foot broken for him. Apparently he liked to gamble but he didn't like to pay his debts so some bookie broke his foot for him. He was a great player in the Championship (was it League 2 then?) bit like Adi in my book.

A tad harsh, perhaps? I did love the bloke so I'm fairly biased but I thought he looked incredible at the start of the 94/95 season, scoring against Newcastle at home despite us being beaten by a much better team. Then the Southampton and Tottenham home games where he was awesome if I recall correctly. I think he could have been a really good top-flight player that season but injury scuppered it. Did okay at Villa but never suited him playing second fiddle to the likes of Yorke, Collymore and Milosevic.

He was very good at running at the defence when he had the ball but very rarely made a pass. His head seemed to drop when he got the ball, he'd run never looking up until he could see the goal out of the corner of his eye then score or miss. There where times when a pass would have definately been a goal. Just my opinion. I still cheered every time he scored, especially in the playoff final against Swindon when he scored the equaliser to make it 3-3. The place went mad. A happy moment in a disappointing day thanks to Speedy.

Shame he never got an extended run in a Premiership team to prove either of us wrong. He was such an exciting player to watch.
hairy Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 Getting your play-off finals mixed up a bit there? Probably. It comes with age. Where am I wrong then?
Ric Flair Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 As Barton says, he wasn't technically that brilliant but he had some unbelievable raw potential that back in the early 90's tore defences to pieces. I actually thought he became a much better player at Villa where they developed him better and his one on one finishing there was up there with the best in the premiership at that time. My best memory of him was destruction of Southend back in 93 I think? He made a young Collymore look like an amateur compared to his exploits on the night where he scored 2 and set one up but could of had about 6. It's a shame he went off the rails at Leicester

ithuriel Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 it was a treat watching him and heskey playing in the same team way back when. shame we had to sell him and corica to finance o'niells first buys. still remember feeling gutted seeing the sporting blue with corica on the front with a wolves shirt and mghoo grinning and then little with julian little did i realise at the time what was going to occur under o'niell
oundlefox Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 I'll never forget that peach of a goal he scored against Barnsley in the cup. The one he bagged against Pompey in the play-off semi was a tasty one as well. Happy memories.
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 If he's going to be remembered for any game it should be Spurs at home 94/95
Ric Flair Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 If he's going to be remembered for any game it should be Spurs at home 94/95 'Almost Romario style'
Monk Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 'Almost Romario style' Oh my days that was a cracking match. David lowe, back to goal, top corner! Julians goal was awesome though. My first season ticket in Block K row Q seat 3 of the Double Decker.

Wils Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 I'll never forget that peach of a goal he scored against Barnsley in the cup. I remember that goal. Quality strike.
Ultra Posted 31 August 2006 Posted 31 August 2006 39 goals in 142 games for Villa ain't a bad return for the premiership! Especially when he was sub for most of those games. I was livid when O'Neill sold him to them. Worked out for us OK in the end though...
