eaststandtom Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Paul Le Guen for next manager? would a debt free Leicester City with some transfer cash be an interesting proposition with the target to get Leicester in The Premiership for Le Guen??? Mandaric might have the clout to swing such a move? Lyon were not the biggest club but they won the league 3 years in a row. Realistic or not a chance?

In relation to us how small do you think Lyon are? He's reagarded as good manager around Europe, so no.
eaststandtom Posted 5 January 2007 Author Posted 5 January 2007 jock wallace left rangers for leicester!!!! lyon relatively speaking are a small club. maybe it is a long, long shot
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 jock wallace left rangers for leicester!!!! lyon relatively speaking are a small club. maybe it is a long, long shot Yes compared to AC Milan and Bayern Munich. Compared to use they're massive.
eaststandtom Posted 5 January 2007 Author Posted 5 January 2007 In relation to us how small do you think Lyon are? He's reagarded as good manager around Europe, so no. prior to lyon winning the league lyon weren't getting 20,000 crowds and they were in the top tier. city could get 25000+ in the 2nd tier if a winning team is formed. i'd compare lyon prior to winning the league like fulham and west ham. these are clubs we should be competing with
eaststandtom Posted 5 January 2007 Author Posted 5 January 2007 Yes compared to AC Milan and Bayern Munich. filbertway Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 I would rather have kelly, hardly impressive what he did it rangers.
Milky Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 I wouldn't rule it out completely, cus you just don't know what is going through mandarics head and money talks, but surely he'll be after a higher profile position.

They've beena established European side for well over 10 years and have a Stadium 10,000 bigger than ours, they've always managed to attract decent players and managers. Before Le Guen Lyon had managers like Raymond Domenech. No we're a totally differnt kettle of aquatic creatures. We're a shit yoyo team at best, with a new owner who might give us enough money to enable us to compete with the likes West Brom, Southampton, Norwhich and Sunderland in the transfere market. Why is Le Guen going to come here, short answear he's not.
Head Honcho Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 In relation to us how small do you think Lyon are? He's reagarded as good manager around Europe, so no. I think we can safely say that Lyon are a bigger club then us! 43000 capacity ground not sure of their average attendance but I think any member of G14 would have to be considered a big club.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Milan went for Alain Perrin at Portsmouth, didn't he? That's a French link right there - probably a good enough as any to start a rumour!
eaststandtom Posted 5 January 2007 Author Posted 5 January 2007 I wouldn't rule it out completely, cus you just don't know what is going through mandarics head and money talks, but surely he'll be after a higher profile position. i'd say so. but just worth being a talking point being as there are no englishmen who fit the bill as a high profile manager. apart from big ron!!!
Lichfieldfox. Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 Oh why do we speculate the next manager for us will be the last sacked semi-successful big name? Curbs/Pardew/Le Guen etc.At least no one has called for Bryan Robson to my knowledge. Prediction: Thread next time a big name is sacked he'll be hailed as our saviour. No-one predicted Posh Josh so lets all get real and talk about the actual rather than fantasy fox world. Milan holds all the cards
escape2victory Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 He is going to PSG apparantly. Probably hasnt even heard of Leicester, not that I would want him anyway. Whats Alex McLeish up to these days ?? did a 100% better job than Le Guen at Rangers

Manwell Pablo Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 blackburn were considered a big club but now look. lyon have maintained their status. sure its very unlikely but money talks Your using really poor examples - for a starter Blackburn are a establish Premier League side who like Lyon are in Europe, so if I look where they are now I'd say they doing fairly well. Second Blackburn is a small town in Lancashire, the smallest city/town currently in the Prem league if im not mistaken. Lyon is the third biggest city in France, the football club has always had a good following and has always been in the mix in Europe. All this is besides the point however, you seem to be another person who thinks Milans going to make us the richest team in this league, we're then going to walk to promotion inside 5 years with a fanstastic manager that we're paying loads of money for, and a squad full of fantastic players that we're playing loads for. It's not going to happen, we'll have enough money to compete we wont be rich!!!
He's not bald Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 blackburn were considered a big club but now look. lyon have maintained their status. sure its very unlikely but money talks French Connection? More chance of getting Popeye Doyle than Le Guen!

No-one predicted Posh Josh so lets all get real and talk about the actual rather than fantasy fox world. Milan holds all the cards Please don't mention Bryan Robson before speaking to West Brom fans. All we're doing here is emphasising the huge problem of an alternative to Kelly. Certainly Dowie appeals less and less the more I read about him and I didn't think he was the personality we needed anyway. What I want is an attack-minded manager with a bit of vision and a bit of personality. Sadly Shankly's dead, Sir Bobby Robson an old man, Kevin Keegan and Gianlucca Vialla have apparently long gone and anyone who's won two matches on the trot is being snapped up in days. It's a sad, sad situation and not one which MM will necessarily find easy to resolve.

James. Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 how do you no all of that thou common sense is a good starting point. manwell is spot on.
Geo V Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 He is going to PSG apparantly. Probably hasnt even heard of Leicester, not that I would want him anyway. Whats Alex McLeish up to these days ?? did a 100% better job than Le Guen at Rangers Yeah the PSG thing seems to be a done deal and he used to play for them a few years back. I dont think we need a manager who doesnt know too much about the English game at this level or one that will use us as a stepping stone. BTW great shout on McLeish BTW. Who is available these days????... Big Ron (no we have black players) Alex McLeish (yes, he`ll do) Iain Dowie (No, because he signs donkeys like Traore and is too freaku having a brother that is a spit of him in the backround. It would confuse us all ) Graeme Souness (He would be good as he`ll have something to prove) Trevor Francis (Dear god no) Steve Walsh (stop the golfing holidays and come to your spiritual home and bring Claridge along as coach) Shane Warne (g`day maaaate) Paul Ince (another possible stepping stone manager. at his peace today about he wants to manage Inter one day the daft sod) Dennis Wise (would be my favourite as I have always wanted to get within punching distance of the little gimp. Two days and he can then leave with a beating) The 3 La Manga hookers (My only worry with this trio is that they are quick in getting things down)
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 how do you no all of that thou If your talking about the Mandaric thing you can see from his past record, he's never spent more than 2 million pounds on a player at one time even when Porstmouth were in the Premier League, during his time at Portsmouth the amount of money spent on players was only slightly more than the amount made back by selling players, Same case at Nice. If your talking about the first Paragraph, I thought the fact that Blackburn and Lyon are in Europe, Blackburn is a small town, and Lyon is a big city where common knowledge.
Vestan Pance Posted 5 January 2007 Posted 5 January 2007 during his time at Portsmouth the amount of money spent on players was only slightly more than the amount made back by selling players, Same case at Nice. A reasonably successful team that cost nothing, surely this can't be a bad thing can it? Or would it be better to be like Newcastle, spending £illions winning nothing?
