Stevosevic Posted 11 January 2007 Posted 11 January 2007 Since when is England competing in Baseball? i'm talking about other sports such as Tennis and the olympics is just embarrassing, yes they have a far larger population so it is to be expected, but i would still like to think we are better than them in the world's greatest game.

I think your safe for awhile yet. You might try baseball against the U.S. We can't even beat the Cubans.
Simi Posted 11 January 2007 Posted 11 January 2007 His new wage disgusts me Then makes me angry £492,000 per week!! That is a disgrace. Although he donates alot of money to charity that is a joke.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 January 2007 Posted 11 January 2007 That is a disgrace. Although he donates alot of money to charity that is a joke. It's not a joke, it's the market economy. If he manages to raise the profile of the game in the USA further, then that $250m will look like money well spent in five or ten years time. Football in the USA could benefit immensely from a high-profile player such as Beckham. Draws more people to the league, stokes demand for TV rights, advertising deals, and so on. $250m could look like money well spent ten years down the line.
MC Prussian Posted 11 January 2007 Posted 11 January 2007 would you turn down $250m? "Indecent Proposal 2"? Aww... Bless Becky, they deserve the dough! After all the hard work they put into it. I believe they can now leave their new Malibu home open for everybody, even the occasional "hot" visitors... No need to be afraid of burglars and kidnappers.
Daggers Posted 11 January 2007 Posted 11 January 2007 If he manages to raise the profile of the game in the USA... If global superstars like Pele and The Birch couldn't make a lasting effect I doubt this Low-esque winger and his anorexic chick are going to change much.
lcfc_jme Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 People are trying to say he isn't going there for the money - nearly half a million quid a week?? Ridiculous money, completely over the top and unnecessary. Sure Beckham donates quite a bit of money to various charities, but with his sort of money it is all too right that he should do. I wonder how many villages could be set up in Africa and be kept running for an entire year based on Beckhams new monthly wage??
lookwhaticando Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 If global superstars like Pele and The Birch couldn't make a lasting effect I doubt this Low-esque winger and his anorexic chick are going to change much. Beckham really is something else, though. As famous and well-loved as The Birch was, he just ain't the superstar that Beckham is. And the yanks love a good anorexic chic from time to time... makes for a pleasant change, you know. People are trying to say he isn't going there for the money - nearly half a million quid a week?? Ridiculous money, completely over the top and unnecessary. Sure Beckham donates quite a bit of money to various charities, but with his sort of money it is all too right that he should do. I wonder how many villages could be set up in Africa and be kept running for an entire year based on Beckhams new monthly wage?? Get over it everyone. The guy is in demand - he's stated before that he wanted to head state-side at some point, so when the opportunity came up, he took it. Just because someone wants to pay him a fortune to do it, so what? Who's to say he'd have gone back to Man U if they offered him that much? Or anywhere else for that matter? When you state an intention to move somewhere or do something, and someone else comes along and says "here's your chance, and I'll pay you $10m a year and give you a chunk of any profits" would you turn him down? Didn't think so. That's not to say money wasn't a factor at all, obviously. It was a part of it, to be sure, but it may or may not be entirely money-driven. After all, $25m each year comes from existing sponsorship. The $10m wage - shy of 100,000 quid a week isn't that high - Michael Bollocks and Rio Ferdinand earn more than that. The potential $10m profit sharing is an incentive to perform. It's quite common in business to give top people a chance to reap financial reward for success - in some companies, every single employee gets cash bonus paid as a percentage of profits each year. Let the market do it's thing. His image and (debatable) talent are incredibly valuable. Particularly in a market of over 330 million people. If someone wants to pay him handsomely for that, then so be it. So long as he pays his way, there's no harm in it. After all, the tax he'll pay on all that would cover social benefits for hundreds of people... and the bureaucrats who try to fook it up for them. I have no problems with his new-found additional wealth. It's above board, it's legal, it's taxable - so where's the problem?
Daggers Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 "I didn't want to go there at 34 years old and for people to say he's only going for the money. It's not what I'm going out there to do." This is my problem - he's either a liar or far more stoopid than I previously imagined.
Janx Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 This is my problem - he's either a liar or far more stoopid than I previously imagined. Potato potartoe! Whichever way you say it.... Hes a brilliant businessman!! 128 kersquillion pennies!!! Its better than retiring as he clearly hasnt the bottle for it anymore..

Manwell Pablo Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Final nail in the coffin as far as his England career is concearned as well.
bigneville Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Final nail in the coffin as far as his England career is concearned as well. He was never gonna play for England again anyways mate. McLaren was never gonna pick him again.
Manwell Pablo Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 He was never gonna play for England again anyways mate. McLaren was never gonna pick him again. Had he moved back to England and performed he'd of had no choice. The tabloids would of forced him into it, like they have most of his descions thus far.
AyewJoking Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Fair play to him. Could easily have got in at another big European side but the money and the weather in America were just too good to turn down.

lildave3 Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 he only going for the money Not only for the money. If he went to somewhere like West Ham and struggled to get in the side, it would hurt his name. Moving to America means he will be superior to alot of their players and will also big up his name ready for when he opens his soccer school.
Milky Posted 12 January 2007 Posted 12 January 2007 Posh has just been offered a new job in the states, and it's to pose for playboy!
