Thracian Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 I thought Yeates and Porter both looked better when they switched flanks. Yeates seems to have a better left foot on him than Porter. To be honest, Porter looked best of all when he drifted inside and was in a central position. I know you said he can play there, Thrac, would be interesting to see if they try it. I certainly think when we were tiring second half we could have gone 4-3-3 with Porter helping central midfield with perhaps Hammond, Horsfield, Cadamarteri giving them plenty to think about up front. I'll be amazed if Kelly fields the same team at Burnley. It is time for the squad to come into action. Notwithstanding any injuries fielding the same team so soon after such a hard game is a recipe for getting fit players injured unnecessarily. Burnley represent a good chance of an away win but we'll need energy to go for one. That'll mean fresh legs. I don't know if RK would ever do radical but the big thing about Saturday was not the style but the early tempo. I'd select a team that could give me tempo and could defend high for 90 minutes if possible. Some big decisions this time for Kelly - a good test of his brainpower. But we need to dictate terms - as we did so firmly in getting our winning lead Saturday.
lookwhaticando Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 We haven't scored against Burnley in any of our last 5 games against them, so if we hit the net, I'll conceed that anything is possible under Milan Mandaric's tenure... You can't really drop anyone unless they're cream-crackered - not after those two results. Having said that, if there's any chance of fitting AJ in Tiatto's luggage this summer, we should take it.... if he's the future, then I'm an orange. An Orange or a Satsuma? To get AJ in Tiatto's suitcase, you'd have to slash the hair off. I wouldn't drop anyone... unless they're too knackered or unfit. Although they'll probably still play anyways. Unfit is fashionable this year.
Geo V Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 RK was quoted on the OS saying "Geoff is proven at this level. He is a good professional and he looks after himself. He has probably played a little bit more for us so far than we had planned for him to, but in the end it has worked. "We will wrap him up in cotton wool now and hopefully wheel him out again on Tuesday" With that being stated, I`d say the side will remain unaltered. We are on the up and Burnley are struggling so heres hoping the same team wins again.
weggy1976 Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Why do we still play Maybury. He gives nothing to the back 4 and nothing going forward. Send him back to Scotland in the pub leagues.
MC Prussian Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Henderson Johansson Kisnorbo © McAuley Maybury Jarrett Porter Yeates Johnson Hume Horsfield Subs: Logan, Stearman, Hammond, Glombard, Cadamarteri
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Cos Johnson and Yeates played one half really. We lost midfield second half til Porter came back to help out and he shouldn't have had to do it. It's one thing him helping Nils and the left-side but having to hold Johnson's hand on the right is overload. And another thing. If anyone thinks Johnson and Jarrett are the creative answer to our midfield problems, forget it. They're not. I'll save comment on Jarrett but Johnson - like Kisnorbo when he used to play midfield - should be under strict instructions to pass the ball on the floor and no further than 20 yards with two touches maximum. As soon as he goes beyond that he gives possession away and invites pressure. Yes he is playing better than before. Hard to imagine anything else happening. But one half doesn't constitute a performance. Just a respectable effort. Why any manager would rest the guy who created one goal directly, helped with another and laid on our best two not taken chances as well I can't imagine. Unless you want to go without creativity altogether. Mind you it is Burnley so I don't suppose anyone will notice. What rubbish, Johnson bailed out Porter two or three times after he'd give the ball away in a dangerous position. You really do watch every game with Porter tinted specs.
The People's Hero Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 What rubbish, Johnson bailed out Porter two or three times after he'd give the ball away in a dangerous position. You really do watch every game with Porter tinted specs. Porter was mediocre. Johnson and Jarrett ran the midfielder and I don't think Yeates or Porter showed enough.
bold_fox Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Porter was mediocre. Johnson and Jarrett ran the midfielder and I don't think Yeates or Porter showed enough. Totally agree.... To be honest i didnt go to many of the early games this season, but have managed to attend the last 5 homes games. I think that Porter has been average. His first touch is very good, but he seldom beats players, and when defending he's often pushed of the ball... I'd get someone with a bit more experience in and use Porter as an impact player, to bring on late in the game.
The People's Hero Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Porter lost the ball in good positions by being too hesitant and too lightweight on more than 5 or 6 occasions. He needs to be more decisive and needs to work on his strength.
Milan Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Hammond will not start another game for City again, that is no bold prediction either.
Dames Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I'd like to see Fryatt come in for Hume. I think Fryatt is hungry again and lets face it Humeys gone off the boil in recent weeks and a rest would do him a bit of good. And yes i hope Hammond never starts for city again.
bold_fox Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I'd like to see Fryatt come in for Hume. I think Fryatt is hungry again and lets face it Humeys gone off the boil in recent weeks and a rest would do him a bit of good. And yes i hope Hammond never starts for city again. Hume played really well against cov... His pace, aggression and determination is enough to guarantee him a place regardless of whether he's scoring or not. No way will Hume be dropped.
harpendenfox Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Just to add to the Porter debate - in the second half I had a great view of his positional play from where I sit. One observation would be that he often finds great positions in some space near the touchline, but Nils and Jonno in particular were slow to move the ball forward to him. This isn't a dig at the players in question, but if we had the confidence and skill to give Levi more early ball, I think he'd have more room to run at his marker, and he'd be more dangerous as a result.
bigneville Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 It's gotta be the same team for me again...
lookwhaticando Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Hume played really well against cov... His pace, aggression and determination is enough to guarantee him a place regardless of whether he's scoring or not. No way will Hume be dropped. Hume's drive and movement will surely be benefited by the presence of the Horse who he can aim to get involved. Hume and Horse up front will be more effective than Horse and Fryatt, I'd imagine. A target man and a runner, or a target man and a slower-moving striker. No contest, surely?
MBK Posted 19 February 2007 Author Posted 19 February 2007 Can I simply say that leaving the team as it is has never worked properly this season. The team should represent the players that are fit and in form, and if you expect 11 players to keep that over 3 games you're kidding yourself. Isn't Weso twice as good as AJ, given a proper run in the team? Plus West Brom, I'd want a good fresh side not a tired set of buggers. As it stands, bet we lose both.

Surely winning 2 games in a row without conceding puts the starting 11 in good form. Weso may be better than Johnson but he's not played a full match in ages and probably wont be fit himself.

If he is better give him a chance to express himself in a game that is not very demanding.

I would rather have hume in midfield with jarret and fryatt/dodds up front. Hume is not a goal scorer, he would be better suited outside the box. Dodds and Fryatt are better finishers, and we would attack in goiod numbers, with Hume, Jarret, yeates and porter joining fryatt and the horse in attack. That's what I would try anyway.
Flynny Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Everyone looking to put one over Joey G It'd make me laugh if Johnson upstaged him. Doubt it though. That's if he even starts.
Tommeh Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 If T'aint broke dont fix it, sure this has been said before
wazza fox Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Same team, different bench. The old guys will be knackered. Johnson and Horsfield will probably come off about the 60 minute mark for Tiatto/Weso/Hughes (I'd go for Tiatto myself, if fit) and Cadmarteri/Fryatt. I agree but weso not tiatto
Glen_lcfc Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Same team Should be a good day out. Setting off at noon. Whats it like in Burnley...nice?
ginner Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 well theres alot of different choices that i like , but im going to choose a kind of change that i think might work henderson johansson , stearman , kisnorbo , tiatto maybury , horsfield , hume , porter johnson , fryatt
