Milky Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 lampard is out with a broken wrist Gerrard in the middle! yeesss! although he probably would have been in the centre tonight anyway, rumours are that hargreaves was gonna be dropped in favour of a more attacking lineup http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/6497817.stm

Ryanside Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 its a shame that we're not playing a better team. I've no doubt we'll win but if we do play well it could be said it is just down to playing a shite team and Lampard could be straight back in. i would love to see England for once play players in their correct positions, even if it is against Andorra
Leicfox Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 The knives are now officially out. Comparing the relative costs of sacking McClaren (£2.5m) with failing to qualify (£100m), public sentiment reached tipping point, as both the England fans – and some notable players - passed audible judgement on the sorry state of the current regime. Croatia and Russia both extended their leads at the top of Group E with their respective wins over Macedonia and Estonia – and England are now not much better than even money to make it to Austria and Switzerland next year. This is now their worst start to a major qualifying tournament for over 30 years – including the 1978 World cup, 1994 World Cup – and 1984 European Championship, the only three tournaments England missed. With fewer residents than there are seats at the new Wembley, Andorra are the smallest of the 50 nations trying to qualify for next year’s European Championships. They’ve lost all of their four games thus far, including a 5-0 defeat at Old Trafford in September, courtesy of Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe doubles. Whilst a home fixture for Andorra, the large number of travelling English fans has meant the match has been switched to the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, home to La Liga’s Espanyol. View... * Despite England’s current ineptitiude, this game shouldn’t present any problems as far as the direction of the points is concerned. The smallest of the 50 qualifying Nations, Andorra are yet to take a point from a top-30 Nation – and have lost all four qualifiers thus far, with an average deficit of 4.5 * However, besides their memorable win in Munich, England haven’t scored more than two goals in a competitive away game since 1998, when they won 3-0 in Luxembourg as part of Euro 2000 qualification. Given that Andorra have scored only once in the current qualification Group – and only six times in 23 matches against top-30 nations, Under 3.5 goals (2.46) is overpriced.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 "The 28-year-old suffered the injury during training on Monday when he was struck by a Wayne Rooney shot." This seems to be a new tactic among the younger members of underperforming squads, after Weso injuring Andy Johnson. More power to them.
lildave3 Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 So is he really unable to play? Or is this just a way of protecting Lampard because he was going to be dropped anyway?
breadandcheese Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 So is he really unable to play? Or is this just a way of protecting Lampard because he was going to be dropped anyway? If a wrist is protected in a cast, I would have thought he could play. I think it is a good decision by McClaren. I don't rate him as a manager but I applaud this. Use the injury excuse, protect the player and shuffle the midfield up. Yes, I think Lampard has been dropped but ths way, the player is protected (as well as himself).
Stevosevic Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 Lampard will play, Hargreaves will be dropped. tonight's midfield is Downing Gerrard Lampard Lennon
lildave3 Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 Lampard will play, Hargreaves will be dropped. tonight's midfield is Downing Gerrard Lampard Lennon And what makes you so sure, seeing as it's all over the place that Lamps is ruled out.
Flexx Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 The team is definitely going to be this ----------------Robinson Richards Ferdinand Terry Cole Lennon Gerrard Hargreaves Downing -----------Rooney Johnson/Defoe I would go for Defoe, Johnson is nothing special - not at international level anyway

Ric Flair Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 Give the Nugget a start. Steve Davis, that is, not David Nugent.
Stevosevic Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 Lampard will play, Hargreaves will be dropped. tonight's midfield is Downing Gerrard Lampard Lennon this was the general consensus this morning, before Lampard had been ruled out, he was expected to play. http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2023249,00.html 'It puts McClaren in a strange situation given that there had been widespread calls for Lampard to be axed for Wednesday night's qualifier following his poor performance in Israel on Saturday. However, it had been expected McClaren would partner Lampard with Steven Gerrard and Owen Hargreaves would be the man to step down, McClaren having presumably decided that Hargreaves' holding midfield skills were not required against a team that have conceded 19 goals in four games so far.' so everyone else is right i hadn't heard the news, sorry
Brainy Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 No result would convince me he's made any progress, not against that lot, sorry. And I don't think even the English press are that stupid either. Agreed. Going a little off-topic, the same can be said for Peter Crouch. Hes scored about 6 goals in 10 games for England but nobody seems to realise that 3 of those were against Jamaica.
Wycombe Fox Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 I'd rather have a square peg (Kieron Dyer) in a round hole than have Downing on the left! Don't rate Downing - never have, never will. 5Live mentioned Carrick instead of Hargreaves Don't rate Carrick - never have, never will. Neither are England class despite the level of transfer fee. All IMHO of course
lcfc_jme Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 I'll watch. Simply because I have nothing better to do with my life. England should win. It won't impress me because Andorra are piss-poor. We'll still struggle to qualify. EDIT: And McClaren is a fu ckwit in the same band as Kelly.

Andorra 0 England 3, Andorra to hold out till the 70th minute when Johnson wins a dubious penalty
lildave3 Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 I've just been watching England v Holland from Euro 1996 when we won 4-1. Brilliant game, team and result. That was when we were decent
