De Vries The King Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I'm behind worthington completely, so I'll jump on his wagon but there seems to be a lot of space company would be good!!!
Wils Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Mixed mixed reactions about this. My worry with him is if he wins a few games the club will keep him for next season and i dont think hes the man to take us forward to be honest. Been speaking to a few Norwich fans and they laughed when they heard the news, obviously they turned on him big time towards the end. Im sure he could do a job this season and possibly keep us up but long term i dont think we should make the same mistake again and appoint him like we did with Kelly. Hopefully Milan has someone else lined up.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I'm not entirely comfortable with the appointment, but lest we forget - who was the last ex-Norwich manager we had...? The glory days are coming back!
Free Falling Foxes Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Just been on the NCFC boards.Seems their fans fell out with NW after a dire 3-1 defeat at...................................................................Plymouth! One criticism of theirs was he couldn't motivate 'passionless players'. Whoops!! FFF

Sods Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I will be behind wortho all the way but i think milan has played this very well imo. Because he obviously knew the fans/players did not want kelly their so he thought il get rid even though their is 5 games left, this will show he has given kelly a chance and shown that if we do go down he has tried with a different manager. With worthington being here i honestly believe he will not the one milan wants for next season and the man milan thinks will take us forward. Although he obviously likes experiance like harry redknapp at pompey i believe he will want a younger manager like Ince to take us forward. But if worthington makes the fans think he's great he will take worthington for next year. If gets one win i reckon he will be looking for someone like Ince and i truly believe this is someone who he wants for the future.
the_bowman Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Well I'm no football whizz... so I'll just say welcome to the club for the last (5?) games, and I hope you do a good job and leave us in a healthy position at the end of the season, with something solid to build on in the pre-season Best of luck mate
MBK Posted 11 April 2007 Author Posted 11 April 2007 I agree with sentiment if not with certain reasons you've given. But having had time to think about it, we have had to find someone straight away and had not had time to look round properly, and this person would have had to be willing to be a caretaker role for five games with no gurantee of a job after. So that rules out any one with the security of a long term job (i.e. the guv'nor) and I don't see Mike Newell wanting such a role so soon after losing his job, same with Coleman. So who does it leave? Your Robsons, your Souness's, and your Hoddles, and I'm not entirely sure they would of been up for it either. Theres not a awfull lot to gain from this from a managers point of view, five games to sort out a set of players that have been poor for most of the season, it's the definition of poision chalice. So when looking at it like that I suppose we've not done to badly. And they're just plainly expensive and not much good to the cause. MM cannot be a fool and spend his money on crap that would expect a long term appointment anyways. I think this is not bad. As Thracian says rightly we can do better.
Flynny Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 WHY does he look about 60? The bloke's only 45 and he looks ancient.
Master Fox Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 WHY does he look about 60? The bloke's only 45 and he looks ancient. Binge drinking and fast food. I heard he also smokes a pipe
Wils Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 WHY does he look about 60? The bloke's only 45 and he looks ancient. Thats what alcohol does to you.
BartonFox Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Lets face it anyone would have been a better appointment than Rob Kelly so we will surely be able to muster the one win needed. Most wanted MM in and I am willing to accept anyone he wants as a manager as long as there is a clear sign of progress. All the best Wortho'
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I'd feel a lot happier if Ince was arriving in the morning.
STUHILL Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I'd feel a lot happier if Ince was arriving in the morning. Why you so confident that Ince would do a good job? He has barely been a Manager and hasn't exactly worked miracles!
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Oh for ****s sakes people, settle down! He's here for five games as far as we know. Let's leave it at that. Focus on the short term (the next five games) and then worry about next season when this one's done and dusted. That's Milan's stated intention - to focus on the next five games and keep us in the league we're in now. End of. Jesus christ, if Dave Bassett came to watch a match one day, you'd all be shitting your pants at the prospect of him being manager! Get a grip already! Yes agree completely!! Nigel is still respected under quite a few Norwich fans. Without him, they'd have been rotting in League One by now!!
Thracian Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Why you so confident that Ince would do a good job? He has barely been a Manager and hasn't exactly worked miracles! If the 1.5 points a game that Ince has managed at Macclesfield is correct - and I cannot be bothered to check - then that is one of the footballing successes of the season with that team and considering where they were. Getting them off the foot of the League was an achievement let alone out of the botom three. Whether that success will be sustained if he's known to be Leicester-bound I don't know. But I hope so.

Just checked, and it's 1.52 ppg, which is much better than I expected. Played 31, won 13, lost 10, drawn 8.
Joe. Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 I have mixed feelings. But I'm not going to judge until he's managed us for a couple of games. He didn't do the worst job in the world at Norwich so that's his good side. But obviosuly they had their reasons for his sacking this season. Even without him though they've hardly done better. We'll wait and see. If he gets a couple on wins from these last few games we have I have a strong feeling he will become our next manager on a full time basis.
OzFox311 Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 What on earth is going on... I go away for 3 weeks and we are back in 13, Kelly is gone and now Worthington is running the shop for the next 5 rounds.... Can't say I'm over the moon about this, hopefully he can bring a change of attitude and ideas to the team and a fresh perspective, but I am hoping Ince takes over after the caretaker period as I can only see Wortho doing the same as Kelly did... and if that's the case, we are replacing one loss with another one.

Yes. It's a bit like one of RK's tactical changes - like for like really. Both make counting grains of sand seem interesting.
Master Fox Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 The appointment of Nigel Worthington has disaster written all over it. I’ve assessed the quotes and images from the press conference yesterday and I think Milan has made a critical error in appointing such a toothless gimp. The Nigel seems a bit pathetic and his personality is that of someone who has spent too much time playing with his train set. If you thought this bloke will come in and keep us up then you’re drastically mistaken.
cityangel Posted 12 April 2007 Posted 12 April 2007 Yes agree completely!! Nigel is still respected under quite a few Norwich fans. Without him, they'd have been rotting in League One by now!! If we hadnt of got rid of him when we did we would definately be heading for League 1 this season, thats a certainty. Cost us £600k to pay him off but it was worth every penny. Having said that hes had several months holiday now, this is a big challenge for him and presume if you win say 3 out of your 5 he'll be given the job?? Whats your team likely to be for Sat please??
