Strokes Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Again I'm in awe of some people's weird attitude on this forum?? Everyone seems to want a manager (who's just been sacked for lousy results) who has achieved precisely nothing in the world of football management, apart from survival. And yet they're moaning about us appointing a man (for 5 games) who has got a team promoted from the division we are currently in!??? I agree with you, coleman hasn't much experience in this division, Worthington has and most of it at the better end of the table.
Phube Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Phube what do you think really is the most a manager like Chris Coleman could achieve at a team like Fulham in the Prem, because personally I'm thinking about ninth place finish That's with Jean Tigana's team, as discussed before, ever since he's had his choice of players, Fulham's been going steaidly down hill. With some shocking performances!! He may be a good manager, he might take us to the 'Promised Land'. But the way people are reacting on here you'd think he'd won the Champion's League and was ready for a new challenge!!

Daggers Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Hiya I'm a Norwich fan.Nigel Worthington - Oh Dear Hiya. Your director. What a slag.
Strokes Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Hiya.Your director. What a slag. And her scones are shit.

For a dross club like Fulham, surviving in the Premiership is kinda like winning the Champions League. Let us not forget he's not exactly destabilized the financial services industry with his spending.

But the way people are reacting on here you'd think he'd won the Champion's League and was ready for a new challenge!! Thats becuase he's been forced to sell Jean Tiganas team to top clubs and wasn't given much in return! (which might i remind you Jean Tigana couldn't stear to ANYTHING RESEMLBLING ninth place, Coleman had to dig Fulham out of this shit when he was first appointed towards the back end of 2002-2003) Their respective finishes have been mid table despite being a selling club. Kicks Worthingtons High finish of 18th Premiership into touch any how!
evan Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 at least its a change, i think everyone just needed a change, the players certainly need to hear someone else's voice i think, so we'll see how worthington goes.... he seems quite a dull man but according to a friend of a friend who is a norwich fan, he was well liked by the players there. of course, rob kelly was probably well liked by the citoh players too, becuase he let them get away with being monkey-guff for a whole season. I would have preferred someone to come in and go with the whole disciplined approach, e.g. its done this way or you can f**k off.....perhaps we can persuade Niall Quinn to let us have Roy Keane? now he's a winner
cityangel Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Hiya.Your director. What a slag. I was told that this was a friendly forum
Shipman Out Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Nigel Worthington. What can you say! well at least the coach has gone...and its not like we had any staff to take over but please Nigel Worthington. The only positive i can think of is that when he did get a little money he bought two quality strikers for Norwich Dean Ashdon and Robert Earnshaw. I hope its just 5 games but cant see it. Milans Rollercoaster is just cruising round the first bend i do love the Manderic! Rob Kelly "lets not bring in any players of quality because it might upset team spirit!!!" He should of gone with Levien...Thankyou Manderic Nigel Worthington.

Dave's just the resident guard dog. Not a very good one, though.
Blue Bob Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 He signed Robert Earnshaw for Norwich, I wonder if Earnshaw fancies playing for his old boss again??

Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 The way I heard it was like this... Milan was in a bar looking very down in the mouth, so the barman asks him what he'd like to drink. "I have two very difficult decisions to make. First, I must choose a new manager for my football club," said Milan, adding with a wry smile, "second, I need to choose which beer to drink." The barman replied, "Well Worthingtons's good." The rest, as they say, is history! ************************************************* Like many here, all I can say is thank goodness it's only 5 matches!!!

Fox in a Box Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Well ....all I can say is Martin O neill was once a Norwich manager and look what he did! Give him 5 games! at least
Leicfox Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 We hope its only 5 games. But this... He said: "This is a big challenge. I have had other offers to manage in the Championship during the last six months, but I declined those because they weren't right for me at the time. But when this opportunity became available I didn't think twice about it."It wasn't a surprise to hear the phone ring - but it was certainly a surprise to hear who was on the end of it. "The Chairman is a man with a lot of passion - not just for this football club but for the game in general. "It was hard not to say yes to the question that he was asking". Says to me that they're is alittle more to this than meets the eye. Director Of Football afterwards or chance to stay on a permanant basis pending results and progress in the last few games ?
davieG Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Norwich Views: Himsworth2m to spend in 2001, all at once and on players, things went our way and we qualified 6th for the play offs In 2003/04 he was incredibly dull early on at norwich. First game of the season against Bradford we were winning 2-0 with five minutes to go and drew 2-2. Until Huckerby came along, with a nervous but talented Crouch on loan, I'd say Worthington wasn't far off the sack How do you rate Hammond Jarrett and Kenton? Because Worthington rated two of these and let a fit Kenton leave There lies your problems under Worthington, a long ball merchant who signs too many forwards, never enough midfielders who can play, and turns up to games to draw If he manages Leicester like he did Norwich for the majority of the time he did, you are in trouble Remember when Norwich beat Manchester Utd 2 seasons ago to this day? Worthington said something about how some players will be getting a chance against manchester, for the very reason that they then cannot whinge to him at the end of the season that they didn't get a fair go in the premiership It was almost a blatent want for Norwich to go and lose, so he could come back to the media, on the monday and say "look, told you, now can I get back to managing this club my way?" So manchester utd arrived at carrow road. Helveg was brought out of the wilderness to replace Marc Edworthy. That's Thomas "Danish captain and 10 years in serie A with Inter and AC Mila" Helveg, replacing Marc Edworthy (good right back, but not really on the same cv as the one he'd been keeping on the bench, i'm sure you'll agree) Second change was bringing back David Bentley, and third and not least Safri, in to replace Gary 'kabaddi' Holt Amazingly, Rooney tackled Helveg, and got booked. Bentley took the freekick, ashton headed it in 1-0 Safri took the ball off Rooney in midfield surperbly, passed it to huckerby, ran down the wing, to Ashton to McKenzie 2-0 3 inspired changes all in the name of not wanting players to whinge at him that they didn't get a chance. You can see all this on you tube Of course Worthington wasn't going to admit being wrong, he took all the plaudits and we went on to beat Newcastle (safri wonder goal), Birmingham (helveg experience to get damian johnson sent off), Charlton, and nearly stayed up. Leaving Norwich fans wondering why we had to wait till the last 6 games of the season to see good players in the starting line up That's the kind of manager you've just appointed. The same manager that hoofed long balls to Earnshaw as a lone striker. The very same that replaced Helveg and Edworthy at right back with Louis Jean and Jurgen Colin in 2005/06 The very manager that compared Simon Charlton in midfield (when he's a left back) to Claude Makelele I could go on if you want Be afraid guys, be very afraid. Peter Grant is only just sorting out the loan and signing mess that Worthington created here. I'm sure Blackpool fans won't have much decent to say about him either kentoncanaryAt Norwich Worthington got off to a decent start then it all went badly wrong. We were heading down when he took over. Next year we were in the playoff final. We played good attractive football in patches the year we won the Championship, there were also times when we were very very functional, got ahead and ensured we did not concede. He was out of his depth in the Prem as a manager, we played dour unadventurous football until the last few games of the season when he selected players that he had been on the sidelines for a while. We almost stayed up despite of Worthington, not because of him. Away from home it seemed we needed to wait until we were 0-2 behind before we tried to attack. His dealings in the transfer market were either good or dreadful; there were many more dreadful players than good ones. It really went wrong when we went back down. Awful football, disastrous signings and dreadful tactics. Mandaric would not have stood for that when he was at Portsmouth and surely would have pulled the trigger on him at least a year before Delia and Co, who had been fiddling while Rome burned, so to speak, finally did the deed. It had got as far as protests and a poisonous atmosphere inside the ground before they acted. I don’t think you will find too many Norwich fans with a good opinion of NW. If ever there was a good example of why a manager should have been sacked a year before he was, and how badly it can go wrong if a tough decision is not made, he is it. Maybe he will do well at Leicester, but having seen how he viewed and treated players and also fans, who dared to have a differing opinion to him, he won’t be getting any good luck messages from me.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Well ....all I can say is Martin O neill was once a Norwich manager and look what he did!Give him 5 games! at least Let's not forget, they both hail from Northern Ireland.
Leicfox Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 Be afraid guys, be very afraid. Peter Grant is only just sorting out the loan and signing mess that Worthington created here. I'm sure Blackpool fans won't have much decent to say about him either They sure won't.
Blue Bob Posted 11 April 2007 Posted 11 April 2007 lots of opinions flying round, who likes different managers. Here are their stats : Nigel Worthington Win % Blackpool 32.83 Norwich City 40.71 Leicester City 00.00 Bryan Robson Win % Middlesbrough 40.44 Bradford City 25.00 West Bromwich Albion 23.45 Chris Coleman Win % Fulham 34.65 Mike Newell Win % Hartlepool United 44.82 Luton Town 41.50 Rob Kelly Win % Leicester City 32.81 So at Norwich NW has only been better by Mike Newell and this includes a season where Norwich were relegated. NW got Norwich promoted top of the league beating the 2nd placed by 8 clear points. So he has done it before and has a half decent record so he is worth a chance.
