Good to see 2nd XI games being streamed this year...

Watching a bit of this whilst waiting for 4.30 to come around so I can leave work. Interesting to watch and have no idea where the ball is going.

The wides were the ones that didn't turn and the umpire deemed it to be negative play (deliberately bowling down the legside). Harsh really because it was a clear plan but once you've given one you have to do the rest.

When Surrey were bowling Lawrence was constantly bowling down the leg side, mainly to stop us scoring but I don't think he was called. I think he was bowling at the other end, so different umpire

I don’t really see how bowling into the best area of the pitch to get a wicket can be perceived as ‘negative play’.

Agreed with less then 100 people watching though not sure it makes sense financially

They'll be getting some cash from YouTube ads and presumably aren't paying a day rate to whoever's operating it.

Keeps interest up when the 1sts aren't on. It's a nice touch for fans able to watch and got more than 5k views in total over the course of the day.

Yes it is up to the discretion of the umpire about what they deem to be negative play.

Behind a paywall but I assume somebody already employed is taking over?? Bit harsh on Rae but not a surprise given the BBC cutbacks. I don’t think he’s as bad as people on here think, him crying when we beat Essex back in the day was stuff of legend.

Yeah rough if he is losing his job. When you listen to a voice for well over a decade it forms a special part.

Don't like to see anyone lose their job, but he was a poor commentator IMO.

Honestly not really the point. At the very least releasing him just after the season has started is a very poor show.

Much prefer Adam Whitty

The amount of mistakes as in who the batsman is, who is bowling etc, that Whitty makes is embarrassing. Shows a lack of cricket knowledge whenever I've heard him, usually in the 20/20s. Much prefer Rae, but i suspect if it will be Whitty taking over, he will be cheaper option.  More likely though, is Radio Leicester will use the opposition county's commentator

No think they will use Whitty because he's already a full time Employee.Rae was employed just for the cricket. Not noticed that many mistakes but he's new to cricket so he's a work in progress.Richard Rae made mistakes by the bucketload like asking Andy Roberts if he enjoyed bowling with Alan Mullally.Thinking Brendan Julian played for the West Indies was another priceless moment

Agreed i find it impossible to listen to Whitty, even more so when his commentary is overlaid the YouTube stream because you realise how wrong his calls are.

But he's always been a rugby commentator and a superb one at that.Takes time to adjust to another sport he's bound to make mistakes but won't take much to be an improvement on Rae.Give the guy time.

If you’re on air seven hours a day for four days straight, talking almost non-stop, who the heck isn’t going to drop the odd clanger?

Any loss of cricket coverage is a real worry and it’s unlikely it will come back.

Don't think that's at stake the BBC don't pay for the coverage just the commentators.
