Good to see this thread go lively again. A sign summer is nearly here!

Interview attributed to Wisden on the Guardian website on Michael Carberry.

Carberry/Nixon

During the 2017 season, Carberry announced that he would be leaving Hampshire for Leicestershire and taking over as club captain at Grace Road. Winless in the Championship the previous summer, the Foxes made a promising start under their new skipper, winning one and drawing two of their first four matches. However, a bitter dispute between Carberry and head coach Paul Nixon led to Carberry’s removal as captain. While never formally announcing his retirement, he stepped away from the game with immediate effect, his contract with Leicestershire terminated by ‘mutual consent’ in October 2018.

I was disappointed with how the PCA allowed Paul Nixon to do the things he did. That led to my decision to walk away. I didn’t go for the big song and dance, the guard of honour. I just walked away, which surprised a few.

I went to Leicester with the purest of intentions, to try and turn a losing team and structure into a winning outfit. I had the benefit of playing at some very big clubs who were serial winners. I felt I was in a good space to lead some good, young players who needed some direction, the club needed direction. I knew we weren’t going to get a lot of new recruits so it was very much working with what we had. Could I turn the dial on some of the attitudes around the club?

I wonder what happened. I’ve heard some rumours and Carberry certainly wasn’t the last to fall out with Nixon, that’s why he ended up losing his job.

We are doing well against the students.

Not to be sniffed at, a few years ago we were losing these student games. Seam attack looks awesome if Hull and Green are making hoped for improvements.

I bought a life membership many years ago just before the club realised it was too cheap and tripled the price.  I haven't been down for a while and consequently fell off the club's radar - and database it seems - but got that sorted just before the end of last season.

I'm planning on attending a few times this season (championship only) as I've packed in work.  What's the car parking situation these days?  I couldn't find anything on the LCCC website.  Train or park and ride look like other options but neither looks ideal as far as I can tell.

The carpark is on site but does sell out regularly. Street parking around the ground is pretty easy though. I do enjoy the walk from the station but understand it is a distance that would not be for everyone.

I don't think we offer life memberships anymore, fantastic value like you said.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I expected but useful to have it confirmed.  I think the train might be the way I go.

The life membership cost £650 at the time I got it, then a few months later there was a new commercial director (or whichever role was responsible for the pricing) and it became £1,950 instead.  A rare example of good timing on my part!

The evidence that Nixon was the problem is pretty heavy. Yet difficult to process; a genuine club legend therefore impossible to dislike and, having met the bloke a couple of times briefly, a seemingly thoroughly nice fella. Came across exactly as you'd expect him to.

The Carberry comments lead me to think he just wasn't professional enough / didn't have the true winning mentality which is very strange.

No just to keep himself in nick by the sounds of it. On his own. Not a great look.

It's totally embarrassing. What kind of way is this to treat a player who always gave 100% and often gave up his time to do commentary alongside Richard Rae free of charge.

Nothing to do with that Carberry got a Bollocking when he was captain  during a 1 day game against Notts when they scored something like 400.He stormed out the dressing room and I remember him telling an autograph hunter to F off when he went for lunch which shows what kind of mood he was in.He then had another row with Nico when he returned which got heated. He was removed as captain a decision he took badly and from memory not sure he played again. He was very poor for the foxes both as a player and  captain

It was not a good period for the club regardless.

If that’s the going rate for the general public, and he’s not under contract, then what’s wrong with it? Surely it’s for the PCA to support these lads.

Going to say something sad but if we seriously want to stay in Div.1, I can’t see Lewis lasting very long sadly.

He's not the worse player in the world. Reckon he can average around 30 which should be ok if Patel and Handscomb  have good season's combined with the depth of our batting line up.

Handscomb has pulled out of his contract according to the Aussie press for family reasons. Now obviously we don’t know what’s going on in his personal life but the timing is atrocious.

Can't find anything about this being true
