Yep just seen huge blow. Hopefully Steve Smith will be ready for Friday😀

We need a replacement asap as our batting line up was a new batsman light anyway.

Sounds amicable, there must be a good reason. Hopefully he can find us a young Aussie who is ready to play on some decent batting wickets. Fingers crossed ECB let us play Rehan this week too.

Don't see why not England barely use him

Seems very late in the day, hope that we have a very good replacement lined up?

Can't see anyone being available for Friday unless they knew about this in advance and simply delayed the announcement

SA have some quality batters and don’t have a test series all summer 👀

Surely if they were available, we would still have Maharaj?

He’s basically been recalled into the one day stuff which wasn’t anticipated for when we first got him

We are looking at NZ batsman Nick Kelly to replace Handscomb

The Cricketer reports he's been signed, but we don't know when he'll be available from. Ian Holland most likely candidate to be captain. Kelly was coming anyway for the last 6 matches in September when Handscomb would have gone home.

Jamie Dunk named in teh Scotland A squad to play Jersey next month. Not sure if he's still on out books this season?

He played for 2\3 seconds sides last season

I forgot about Dunk...thought he'd progress with us after showing some potential a couple of seasons back with the 2nds.

First class average in NZ (bowler friendly country) of 40 which is what we need. Though watch him do well in the first month and then immediately get called into the NZ team.

Good signing i think, has a good record and a positive player. Pleasantly surprised if he is the replacement.

Agree! Interesting that it says he’s coming to cement his place in the Australian team. Shows that a) he’s motivated b) Aussie selectors seem to rate the county championship higher than the England selectors do these days.

Well it's the only red ball cricket he can play before a test series in August. So makes sense, much easier for other nations to play in our circuit due to the amount of teams.

I don't follow the Leicestershire squad as much as I should, but we've replaced a middle order batsmen with an opener? Who drop's down? I imagine the aussies will want him opening the batting.

I would imagine Budinger probably. With Rehan at 4, Hill at 5 and Eskinazi at 6. Patel could easily bat at 3 too but you’d probably want that left/right combo at the start. We’re clearly going to play aggressively as it’s probably our best chance so I genuinely don’t think the order is as important as it would be for other teams. We also bat incredibly deep which I think should help us. Holland at 8, Green at 9, Davey/Scriven (FC averages 30) at 10 and Hull at 11.

It's just another area in which the Australian Cricket organisation is better prepared than the English one.

Can't grumble at that. First Class average is sound, good fielder too. Got a point to prove after a bit of an uneventful Ashes with the bat (was rather thrown in to the Aussie set up though)
