Rincewind Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Not tried them myself but I had one or two of the 'genine' ciders at the Leicester beer fest. Acquired taste I suppose. The real cider drinkers turn their noses up at the commercial ciders. Don't know if those two fall into that catagory. I am willing to try anything at least once so there is still time to sample them.
Tubes Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 magners, love the stuff ive not tried bulmers myself but have been told it is a poorer tasting magners by the same company
Geo V Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Ive only tried Magners and its OK. I`ll make an effort to try Bulmers this weekend to give a detailed review.
Geo V Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Bulmers cheaper down are end and nicer You dirty sod, you are meant to be drinking it.
lcfc_jme Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Magners out of the two, but I avoid cider at all costs if I possibly can.
Tevez Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 I have once tried magners, i must admit it is very good, but it is very acidic for me.
Bryn Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 I quite like cider, haven't tried either of these two. We either get proper cider in, or Strongbow.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Magners is good but the "hard stuff", real Somerset Scrumpy is the best.
AoWW Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Magners for preference, but not that keen on cider to be honest.
Floating Fox Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Cider. The drink of gods. I've heard Bulmers is espcailly nice but not tried it. Quite happy with a strongbow to be fair :D
Jon the Hat Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 magners, love the stuff ive not tried bulmers myself but have been told it is a poorer tasting magners by the same company Right, Bulmers are a cider company in Ireland. They make a drink called Bulmers Original which they sell in Ireland only. Thy sold the UK rights to the name to Scottish and Newcastle group who "brew" and bottle it in the UK. It is not the same drink. In fact Bulmers sell their Bulmers Original as sold in Ireland under the name of Magners in the UK. So Magners is Bulmers Orginal, and Bulmers Original isn't. Good eh! Because S&N have better distribution in the UK, many pubs which last year sold Magners are now stocking Bulmers (the S&M one).

Joe. Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 I love Cider but to be honest I rate both of them equally. There doesn't seem to be a lot of taste difference to be honest... Both beautiful
Chairman of the Bored Posted 10 May 2007 Posted 10 May 2007 Right, Bulmers are a cider company in Ireland. Er, no. Bulmers are cider company in Hereford. I've met Mrs Bulmer and she's a right cow. Magners is the Irish company.
Dr The Singh Posted 11 May 2007 Posted 11 May 2007 Naught different ot be honest!! I like having a cider aftera few beers just to refresh myself and get rid of thay stale beer taste out of my mouth!!!
The People's Hero Posted 11 May 2007 Posted 11 May 2007 If it ain't got lumps floating about, it ain't real cider! Both these drinks are quite refreshing I suppose, but given a whole bar's worth of options, it would be rare for me to choose a cider.
Jon the Hat Posted 11 May 2007 Posted 11 May 2007 Er, no. Bulmers are cider company in Hereford. I've met Mrs Bulmer and she's a right cow. Magners is the Irish company. Yeah that is the Scottish and Newcastle owned one which owns the UK rights to the Bulmers Name. Magners is the UK brand name for the Irish Bulmers Original. Same drink. "Bulmers Ltd., manufacturers of Bulmers and Magners, is the leading Irish cider manufacturer" Both are customers of the company I work for.

Well that makes sense, they bloody taste the same!!!
Daggers Posted 11 May 2007 Posted 11 May 2007 Why anyone would pay premium prices for budget booze that tramps and teenagers have been abusing for years is beyond me. Next, everyone will be enthusing over a version of MD20/20 that trots out for a fiver a glass.
Thracian Posted 11 May 2007 Posted 11 May 2007 Neither. Cider can be a smashing drink but Weston's is different league. Fridge cool but no ice - it dilutes the drink and ruins the taste.
