The Reverend Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 To be fair, now ive actually thought about this, i wouldnt be bothered if Hendrie went to Derby. Think about it. He's 30 and not getting any younger. If he comes to us and we go up this season, by the time the next season starts he'll be 31 (and thats only if we DO go up this season, which i think is unlikely). So, if we go up the season after next he'll be starting out in the Prem with us when hes 32, probably not far off 33. What would YOU do? I know which i'd do really Good luck to the lad.

I can see where you are coming from. But in reality are we not buying all the players in with the aim of gaining promotion, if we got into the premiership we would have to rebuild the majority of the side again with the aim of staying up. The main difference then is that we would have upto £50 million to spend on transfers / wages and could attract better players.
MPH Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 If you read the post I never mentioned Stephen Hughes (another poster did) nor did I say that they should both be earning the same amount of money. Just out of interest though...when were Hendrie's last five first team starts in the Premiership? my point about mentioning hughes was not to imply you had but to try and make a point- it doesnt matter if someone is doing the same job, if they are 5 times better than someone then that counts. Often, even in every day jobs people are awarded a pay scale based on experience and ability. also you get increments based on performance. I do NOT have a clue how much hughes was getting paid. But IF he was getting somthing like 4-5k a week then comparatively speaking Hendrie is entitled to 20 k a week. Is he worth 20 k a week?? I doubt many players are. I work as a Health Care Assistant in the Children's Intensive Care Unit at the Royal and i take home 1k each month if im lucky..it annoys me how much footballers get paid but thats another thread.... :-)

Hi, new member skegness fox here. i agree with blue bob on this, Hendrie is a good player for this league despite his age and we have to be aiming for a play off place at least. What about sheringham as well he's getting on but he's still got a bit of class which we lack.

(basically he thinks he can do better than us and derby) !welcome skegness fox!

morris1234 Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...ine+up+de+Zeeuw Coventry are expected to complete the signing of former Wigan skipper Arjan de Zeeuw on Monday. The veteran Dutch defender is set to sign a one-year deal at the Championship club with the option of a further two years, according to Dutch paper De Telegraaf. De Zeeuw, who made over 200 appearances in two spells for Wigan, was released by new boss Chris Hutchings at the end of last season. The 37-year-old is set to undergo a medical before being unveiled as Iain Dowie's latest capture. Midfielder Ellery Cairo is also set to join de Zeeuw at the Ricoh Arena on a one-year deal after leaving Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on a free, the paper claims.
Stevosevic Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 We seem to have enough at the back now. Kisnorbo, McAuley and N'Gotty. Need some wing backs though, unless Mattock is going to be a starter next year.

Outstanding fotballers deserve outstanding incone. That's the way of the sports and entertianment industries. But when people stop being in any way box office it does make you wonder about the decency of it. Not that you can blame the players for accepting. Most of us would do the same. But would you sign any ageing middle-of-the-road footballer on a three-year contract at £8,000 a week if the money were coming out of your pocket? I know I wouldn't.
Gené and Tonic Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 I'd say we're ok for centrebacks now, with N'Gotty, McAuley, Stearman and Kisnorbo who can play there. We're in need for fullbacks though, especially on the left.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 Pleased we're not signing de Zeeuw. I would have preferred him to N'Gotty personally but now we've got old Bruno on the books I wouldn't want Maid Arjan () as well. Ellery Cairo eh? I only know him from the dreaded Football Manager. Sounds like a fairly handy signing though. Fair play to them.

I've never heard of him, but Fez knows his marbles (and to a certain but lesser degree, football) so I'm ceding my opinion over to Fez for the day - he's my proxy opinion, you might say, in fact, I just did.

I don't think he's that old either. a really useful signing IMO. Mind you Cov made quite a few "really useful signings" last year and it didn't get them very far.
Blue Bob Posted 25 June 2007 Posted 25 June 2007 I am not worried about missing out on this one, due to his age he was only ever going to be a short term solution. Not so sure I would have wanted to sign for Cov though. Lets face it Dowie is going to be one of the most mardy B*astards to play for this season having lost his court case and needing to cough up £800K in legal fees - imagine what he will be like when the lose

STUHILL Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 LEE HENDRIE deal could be on.... And manager Martin Allen has revealed that former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie and Charlton winger Kevin Lisbie have both trained with City this week. That could be the first step towards a permanent move.
Gené and Tonic Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 Yes! Where's it from? Lisbie would be quite a good signing too, he did alright at Norwich on loan.

Ric Flair Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I'd steer well clear of Lisbie, happy with the news about Hendrie though. I wonder how much Sedan wanted for Job?
