MPH Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 I am still not sure where the hoof thing comes from anyway, and the players he seems to be interested in don't support the theory tbh. Supporters of any team seem to say 'all we do is play long balls' just because they don't play Real Madrid. indeed. there is a difference between being direct and playing long balls. i still remember when cambridge came with a young dion dublin in the second leg of the play off semi final. now THAT was long ball football We stuffed them 5-0 :-) great game... including the most amazing/bizarre save i remember seeing at filbert street..
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 I agree with him (doesn't happen often) but lots of the goals came from through balls from midfielders. Not as many hoofs as I thought there would be. I'd look at some of Clive Platts goals then
l444ry Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 I agree with him (doesn't happen often) but lots of the goals came from through balls from midfielders. Not as many hoofs as I thought there would be. To be fair I accept that you are partially right. The problem exists because so many people keep stupidly calling direct football "hoofball" without understanding or misrepresenting what it is all about (Thracian excluded). There is no rule that a side playing "direct" must score from a long goalkeeper style punt onto the head of a seven foot striker who heads it in from 12 yards without the ball bouncing. That aside, it is hard not to notice some forum contributers conveniently revising their previous opinions now that we have got a "direct football" manager - because, make no mistake, Martin Allen will play direct no matter what the revisionists might think or say. And, quite frankly, it's about time Leicester did play a more direct style too.

Thracian Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Just because you have a sneaky admiration for Martin Allen, Thracian, there's no need to rewrite history. :D Admiration is too big a word at this stage but I respect his record, like his urgency and I've have always preferred initiative takers to people who get bogged down by their own caution. True to say I feel very positive and would like to remain that way.
MBK Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Close to joining Wycombe according to BBC. Prem offer and couple from championship
Ultra Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Looking at the clips of McLeod's goals, they didn't seem like the result of hoofball.Hume's not going to benefit from "hoof" and he's got a new long contract. Matt Jarvis, if he signs, doesn't suggest "hoof" nor the apparent continued involvement of people like Fryatt, Wesolowski or even Porter. There's a way to go with new signings yet but, while I'm certain in my mind we'll be fit and competitive, the threat of "hoof" would seem to be receding rather than developing. Not with the likes of McAuley, Kisnorbo and N'Gotty at the back, it isn't... We need to see who Allen has in mind for the full-back and midfield positions before judging which style he'll use. But after the last few years of dross we've been forced to endure, I couldn't give a monkey's how direct we are, as long as it brings wins on a regular basis!
Kent Fox Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I agree - I don't think MA will play hoofball coz that's what everybody appears to be expecting from him. I do think we will see a more aggressive side. We have a few players that can play to feet and we have a few that are direct. Either way so far it's all looking promising. As for NL coming back - bring it on He can change a game as well as any midfielder in the CCC and is still better than some in the Prem.
Ultra Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 As for NL coming back - bring it on He can change a game as well as any midfielder in the CCC and is still better than some in the Prem. Yeah, that's why he's doing a runner from a sh!te league from the SPL. I'd prefer to remember him as he was. If he cared about us he'd have signed by now anyway.
Father Ted Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Henrik Larsson said today that he thinks Neil Lennon will be goi9ng to Forest as a player coach and thinks Forest will come good
Ricey Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Henrik Larsson said today that he thinks Neil Lennon will be goi9ng to Forest as a player coach and thinks Forest will come good Link?
Father Ted Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Link? can't remember but it was in one of this morning's papers!
Ricey Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Hmm, that worries me. It would baffle me if he did go to Forest.
Babylon Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Hmm, that worries me. It would baffle me if he did go to Forest. Why? If that's his best option then he will go there.
Rocky Dennis Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 If thats true i just cant help but think he could do that job for us! His experience would be very useful to us. Id be a bit gutted if went to Forest. Kinda like seeing an ex you wished you'd never split up with snogging a bloke that you hate!
Ricey Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Why?If that's his best option then he will go there. ...because I don't think that is his best option. I know that he wants to get into coaching/management but he has another 2 seasons in him and I would of thought he'd want to play those seasons at a higher level.
Tevez Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 I think he'll go Villa. But it would be nice if he finished off his career at Leicester.
NFFC Chris Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Apparently it does look likely at the moment he could be joining us but I'll believe it when I see it.Would love him here,a real leader and a ready made replacement if Calderwood messes up again.
Blue Bob Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Was you there at the City ground vs Yeovil? Oops no reply, I think you stired up a few bad memories!!!
brookfox Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Sunderland are favourites to sign Neil Lennon after he turned down Wycombe. (The Times) Most likely based on the Lennon - Keane Celtic link.
Cheese Me Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Sunderland are favourites to sign Neil Lennon after he turned down Wycombe. (The Times) Most likely based on the Lennon - Keane Celtic link. Eh? What link?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Eh? What link? That they played together at Celtic!
NFFC Chris Posted 11 June 2007 Posted 11 June 2007 Was you there at the City ground vs Yeovil? Unfortunately yes the worst night of my Forest supporting life .Had a feeling Lennon would'nt be joining us either
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 12 June 2007 Posted 12 June 2007 Forty-three games in the Scottish League - and surrounded by far superior team-mates than the opposition generally musters - is nothing like 43 championship League games where every game is a fairly furious locking of horns. In football terms it must be cruising the Adriatic. How will having Lennon in some younger player's place help to bring him on?. Instead of an appreciating asset we'd have an ever-less-athletic old timer. No thanks. Fans forever want old heroes back. Even when they're permanently injured sometimes. And it's a sentiment that's invariably doomed to disappointment all round. To be fair Lennon was the only consistent midfield starter (with Nakamura) throughout the season I realise he is defensive minded and hence probably isn't too appealing to you, but he does provide a backbone when played with attacking players like McGeady and Nakamura And re: your tendency towards younger players, I suspect you'd sign a sperm given the opportunity
