Brainy Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I dont have a clue, just thought we could get a decent discussion going..
Tommeh Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 No, this is just my opinion though. Sheff utd fcked it up and were pretty much safe with 4 games to go they shouldn't go crying to the premier league. full credit to West ham for their recovery and winnig at old trafford on the last day, They may have broken the rules but dropping them out the league is too far.
Asha Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Too complicated to change it now....West Ham belong in the prem...Sheff Utd can just suck off
Tubes Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 a bias opinion because i deteste sheff utd so let them stay down so we can stuff them twice west hame had enuff of a punishment 5.5mil is a lot of money to be fined no matter who you are
BartonFox Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 West ham should be slung out the league and the PL chiefs who bottled it should be made to resign. I am sick and tired of the London or big club bias that exists from within the football powers. We've seen it before with Swindon getting a 2 league demotion yet Spurs get a points deduction that was never really going to hurt them.
Ultra Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Swindon only went down one league in the end and Spurs had their points deduction commuted to a fine. But the Premier League were well out of order. If Tevez's contract was illegal (as the hammers apparently admitted), then how come he was still allowed to play for the rest of the season without breaking the transfer window? As Warnock has moved on, I don't feel as ill-disposed towards the blunts as I once did. It'll be a miracle if they win their appeal, though. The London establishment usually close ranks in protecting their own.
Tevez Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Sheff United only moaning because they went down, if the league was different and West Ham and Sheff United stayed up. Would they be moaning? No. Utter bullshit in my opinion. They are not a premiership club, they have had 38 games to play and they have not done enough to stay up. Sheff United are a joke.

There were a group of 5 clubs who were in danger of relegation who all agreed that whoever got relegated should appeal. And they are not on there own it would seem. From Sky Liverpool's Rick Parry has given evidence on behalf of Sheffield United at their Premier League arbitration hearing. The Blades are looking to earn a top-flight reprieve for next season as they feel West Ham should have been deducted points, which would have seen them avoid relegation. The Hammers were fined over £5million for their role in the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. A host of Premier League clubs are known to be backing The Blades' appeal - but Liverpool's support has only just emerged. Sky Sports News learned on Monday that Parry attended the hearing in London and gave evidence on their behalf. Liverpool are likely to have extensive knowledge on the situation regarding Mascherano and Tevez, as they signed the former in January from West Ham.
Blue Bob Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Definately a tough one. In the past though they have deducted points and they should remain consistent. A £5.5 million fine is nothing when you get £60 million to stay in the league. I dont think it is about what team is involved I think it is the principle that counts.
act smiley Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 West Ham stayed up on the basis of a player who was signed illegally, played illegally, got given a slap-on-the-wrist fine that was far, far less than what other smaller teams who'd made paperwork mistakes rather than deliberate deceptions got, then continued to play him after this, and he scored the goals that kept them up! I fail to see any way in which their actions can be condoned in any way - its pure cheating and getting away with it, and they clearly deserve to be relegated, whether its Sheffield Utd or anyone else who suffers if they get away with their cheating. Whether or not I like Sheffield Utd is irrelevant, they've been cheated out of it - I'm sure all the people who've voted no on the poll would change their mind if it was us suffering instead. If they stay down it might make a good laugh, but it means that every big club can cheat as much as they like and never have any concequences, which isn't something I'd like to see. Unfortunately, it'll never happen, they'll bump up the fine another £5m and give it to Shef Utd, then give West Ham -3pts for this season instead of last. They are not a premiership club, they have had 38 games to play and they have not done enough to stay up But they have - they scored more points than were secured by 3 teams, if points are only taken from fixtures where legal clubs were playing legal teams. If you look at the points that he's earnt West Ham through his goals alone, that's 6 pts - enough to have sent them down. If you instead make every game with Tevez in score them 0 points, the maximum punishment for their offence they'd be bottom! I am sick and tired of the London or big club bias that exists from within the football powers. So is everyone else, I'm sure. I can just about put up with the media wanking over big clubs because of the demand, or over everything cockney because its local to them, but when its the people who're supposed to be running the sport it really does my head in.

I agree. Wham stayed up it seems by fielding the player that was deemed illegal and in that case that is wrong. But - Sheff U had their chance - they were pretty much safe with 5 games to go and blew it, for which they can blame no-one. Wham will not be demoted - that for me is a certainty.

Have to agree with these views. Where does the money from the fine go to, by the way? Is it effectively a huge bribe...?
Finnegan Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I think the board at WHU deserve their relegation, but I don't think Curbs or the players do. I do, however, fully believe that Sheff U's players, manager, coaches and other misc staff deserved the drop. They simply weren't good enough over the course of the season and that's the bottom line. With or without Tevez I'm personally of the opinion they'd have gone. The Premier League have passed judgment. Suing them for compensation because you disagree with their decision is one thing, but campaigning over and over to be reinstated into the Premier League sets a bad precedent. It sends out the message that if you winge enough off the pitch, you can compensate for bollocks performances on it. Sheffield United are staying down and that's how it needs to be, or every season we're going to get relegated clubs causing hoohah over this, that and t'other.
Durnerz Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 Would rather play Sheff Utd than West Ham next season.
Dames Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 Didn't Sheff Utd get found out the other day for doing dodgy business with Watford about Steve Kabba ? Pot and Kettle spring to mind.
Webbo Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 There's no doubt in my mind that West Ham should of had points deducted. The excuse given by the PL was that they were thinking of the fans, well Sheff utd have fans too, why didn't they think of them? Typical cockney carve up.
hairy Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 Didn't Sheff Utd get found out the other day for doing dodgy business with Watford about Steve Kabba ?Pot and Kettle spring to mind. Your right BBC Source Do you think that if the League lose today then they will deduct points from United for this one to get the same result?
BartonFox Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 Your rightBBC Source Do you think that if the League lose today then they will deduct points from United for this one to get the same result? Man United and Everton had a similar deal. What it ultimately means is all 20 Premiership Clubs should be demoted and the top 20 Championship sides last season promoted on the grounds that none of us cheated.
dandannieldanok Posted 19 June 2007 Posted 19 June 2007 This may sound strange but it is pretty cringeworthy on Sheffield United's part, there desperation is ludicrous. West Ham may have signed him illegally but as many people have already pointed out, it is going on all the time.
