seems like it could be a good signing provided his fitness improves. However it seems abit of a long shot, because doesent seem like that much of a reliable source. Atleast more reliable than footy rumours!

People obviously think Porters really something then...come on, be serious, doubt he'll get that near the first 11 this season to be honest

I could imagine that for several players based on yesterday but Porter wasn't one of them.

However, it is early days all round.

Levi friggin' Porter :frusty:

Where did this whole "midfielders HAVE to score goals" mentality come from, by the way? Thracian you know fooking diddly SHIT about this player, what makes you assume he isn't a creative genius?Goals from midfield might be nice, but you don't measure a midfielder's ability by his finishing. Getting forward and scoring goals can be at the cost of defensive cover and greedy play-makers in the middle are rather an oxymoron.
true, but you don't hear people complaining about gerrard lampard and renaldo....
Oh and throw in this Dutch guy too that everyone is arguing about
erm, you mean the dutch guys who's thread you are writing in :frusty:

Interesting. A decent free kick taker possibly coming to City? Well I never. At least is he comes he can overtake the overatted little Levi.

Give him a chance

A Dutch contact of mine confirmed the description of him as 'fat, lazy but talented'.

He also mentioned that Van Basten once said he was better than Seedorf.

But he would say that, the racist!

Is he talking about Porter?

Sounds like another little bet looming! :)

Thracian is probabley right, he is the best option on the left currently imo.

I agree. With reliable central midfielders like Kishishev and Clemence, Porter might be a decent option this year. Depends how his pre-season goes.

Porter needs more confidence to take people on and get more involved, and he can go through large periods of games offering very little. Perhaps with better players and a stronger team around him the confidence will come.

I dont blame him for not having confidence, i wouldn't have any if I had Andy Johnson or Josh Low in the sam team as me. I feel with better players around him he could become a good player, because at times last season he showed glimpses of what he is capable of. Hopefully Allen will install confidence in him, in order for him to thrive.

To me he needs more passing options and you cannot imagine he'll get less this season because the support last year was abyssmal.

He also needs more freedom. I keep stressing, Porter's not a beater of men as such. He's tricky enough and can work an opening that way, but he's not the sort of winger who races past people.

To me central midfield gives him the best chance to use his passing strength and ability to change the direction of play. But I'd tend to agree that his confidence needs to be kept high and it's still the left-wing spot he'll be competing for.

Back to Janssen - I have a dutch uni mate who is pretty positive on him. He says he is one of the best players outside the big 3 (or 4 if you now include AZ) ability wise, but does not always have the application. He does have 2 caps but these did come as a bit of a suprise to some. He can be a world beater one game and invisible another. What he said that interested me most was when he was younger he played alongside Diarra who was the focal point of the team. Since his return from a loan in Belgium he has been a more important cog. If you look at his stats since returning his goals in the current spell its 17 in 97 so a decent record IMO.

I would love it if we got him but with Clemence now in I can't really see it, and doubt it was that likely to begin with

As the advert goes 'enlargement really does work'...

Don't ask me how I know.

Get the geezer in, 17 goals from 97 appearances is nearly triple the amount of the goal-shy tripe we had before, f.e Hughes 91(7) and G.Williams 78(3). No slouch would get 2 caps for Holland last year, esp. under the likes of van Bastern's cruelty.
