in your lifetime

I can slightly remember the victory over Tranmere in 2000, but.. erm.. no.

I started supporting City in 1999 so if we won the League Cup 2003 onwards, it would be more memorable.

Maybe not my definitive top 5 but off the top of my head:

- scoring from the halfway line with a massive punt that bounced over the goalie back in 1992 playing for Birstall United Under 10's with my Dad as manager and my Uncle on the touchline (ok, it might not quite have been a full size pitch).

- the Ashes win.

- any number of away days when the Leicester fans are in good voice. Proud regardless of the performance on the pitch.

- the Middlesborough and Tranmere cup wins.

- Euro 96

5) Germany 1 England 5 - Munich, 2001

Putting these in order is difficult, so I'm using * for four of them. ;)

* City 2 - 1 Derby, Play off final. He's here, he's there, he's every f*king where...

* Scott Gibbs goes diving over the line to sink England at Wembley in 1999. The degree to which we were written off made it all the more astounding.

* Bellamy bags the second to make it 2 - 1 against the Azzuri in Cardiff.

* Soopa Stevie Claridge vs. Palace. Nuff said.

But, at Number One...

Dont really want to put them in any order but here goes..

England's stunning tour of Australia in 1986 - 87. Superb Ashes victory and dominance in the one day series. Botham was devatating, Mike Gatting, Chris Broad, John Embury, Dilley, Gower, De Freitas, Edmonds...

The best England cricket performance in my lifetime.

England's World Cup Campaign Italia 90.

I'll never forget that team and the Manager Bobby Robson. Every ingredient was there and despite the somewhat uninspiring start against Ireland we kept out best for last and so nearly went all the way.

Lineker is still my all time favourite England player, and his clinical goal to level things up against the Germans in the semis I can still see now as clear as day. Paul Gascoigne peaked at 18 in that wonderful tournament. David Platt was outstanding, as was Stuart Pearce and Peter Shilton.

Pretty decent New Order Anthem also! John Barnes Rapping :worship:

Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix seasons 1986 & 1987 and of course 1992.

Nigel Mansell was something special in Grand Prix. A racing driving of considerable skill, what made him different and 'British' was that he harnessed that skill with a large slice of aggression and a huge slice of guts.

The bloke would overtake opponents around the outside on bends!

He was gutsy, very very quick and very proud to be British.

Since Nigel Mansell I suppose F1 has become more sterilised and clinical in it's execution but I can still imagine Nigel getting into one of those cars today and tearing the hell out of the lot of them.

Thank got he finally got that World Championship win in 1992, the man is a legend and a true Brit.

Euro 96

The most spellbound I have ever seen this country in a sporting event.

Venables was just the right man to lead a talented England team on home soil and we were all caught up in a rollercoaster that inevitably as allways with england ended in heartbreak.

Shear, Sheringham, Seaman, Gascoigne, Pearce.. Great passion, total belief and the whole country bought into the dream. Baddiel and Skinner "Football's Coming home". The whole thing was just fantastic. I'll never ever forget it.

I can quite decide the last one so I'll throw a few into the mix...

Henman's scrapes at Wimbledon.. Great patriotism and loads of guts. Went a few time to watch and it was electric.

Germany 1 - 5 England .. Dream come true and slayed a few ghosts. The best of the Sven era.

Daley Thompson's Decathlon Olympic victory. Great game for the Spektrum 48k also!!

Kelley Holmes in Athens - After all her problems Ms Holmes proved not giving up pays off

Ashes 2005 - Everything coming together at the right time against the right opposition and with a great spirit

Botham's Ashes 1981 - I can just about remember it and those spectacular innings

Seb Coe in the 1980 Olympics. What a great middle distance Nation were were then with Ovett, Cram and Coe. Coe was just sensational

Steve Redgraves numerous Olympic triumphs

Nigel Benn's Super Middleweight Reign. With Eubank, Watson and Collins for company that era of British Middleweight boxing was electric, and Benn was and still is my favourite ever boxer.

Lennox Lewis doing for Mike Tyson. That was fanatastic!

So many great moments! We are a very spoilt nation for our sporting greats.
