Milky Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Personally I'd like to see Bopara bedded into the side. When Flintoff comes back, we're not going to drop a batsman for him. Hopefully not, anyway. With Collingwood and Bopara in the side and capable of 5-10 overs each of medium pace should the need arise, Flintoff coming back at No.8 and not No.6 becomes much less of a problem.I think Bell will get one last chance, and Strauss still needs a century despite some slightly more encouraging innings. If Strauss is very poor again and Bell shines (as I think and hope he will) Strauss might get the boot for the winter tours. Not just me who rates Bell over Strauss, right? Bell deserves every chance. He's the 3rd youngest Englishmen to score 1500 test runs, and he's scored several centuries on the sub-continent. He's part of our future. Ditching him now would be a mistake.
Flynny Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Absolutely.I think Flintoff should have been down the order some time ago. If they could ever get themselves fit, Freddie and Simon Jones would add great batting depth to the England line-up. Factor in Broad in 12-24 months and you've got a bloody good tail from 8-10 (although I'm not sure where that leaves Harmison and Hoggard, assuming Monty is now a cert at no.11). Maybe that's a bit OTT? If Strauss gets the bullet, who would you like to see open with Cook? Bell, probably. I don't like the idea of Vaughan opening for some reason. As for the bowling, we suddenly seem to have a ton of 'good' but not top class bowling options. if Anderson wasn't so expensive when the ball wasn't swinging he'd have his place nailed down by now, because he's amazing when it is moving. Come winter I'd like to see a lineup something like: Cook Bell Vaughan Pietersen Bopara Collingwood Prior Flintoff Sidebottom Hoggard Panesar Harmison and Sidebottom should probably rotate within the first 11 depending on conditions unless Harmison suddenly starts producing his best form consistantly. It'd be nice to see Denly tour with them, maybe, too. (edit: I've just realised this looks like I think he's a bowler - I don't, just so we're clear) Even if he didn't play he'd get a lot out of it, and he looks a smashing prospect even though he's only in his first season. Also, isn't Simon Jones bloody awful with the bat? That was the impression I got. I don't think he'll be injury free for long periods again for some reason, though I'd love it if he were.
Joe. Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Flynny I like the look of that batting lineup very much. I agree with you, I think we should give Bopara another go, handy with the bat and ball. Strauss isn't consistent enough at the moment, and with Flintoff coming back somebody's got to give. For me it has to be him Personally I would prefer Vaughn opening with Bell in at 3 though.
Raj Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 CookBell Vaughan Pietersen Bopara Collingwood Prior Flintoff Sidebottom Hoggard Panesar Good team that...and it has 2 INDIANS involved!!!!
Flynny Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Good team that...and it has 2 INDIANS involved!!!! Enough for you to support us? Do you support England a bit, like a 2nd team or something? Is it just India vs. England games where they take preference? I don't have a problem with it, I'm just interested. I should say something racially ignorant now like " WUD U LIEK MAHMOOD TO PLAY COS HE IS SHITE". He's Pakistani, right?

Now that is a decent question(unlike Milky Joe's offensive remarks about me milking the system) Always want England to do well...its only when they play India,i want India to win (Cos my Family, Uncles and Cousins etc.. all support India and at the end of the day its my mother tongue and i'll always be an Indian(or words to that effect) to the average Leeds fan! If Leicester CC played India,i would support Leicester (i think...maybe!!!) I am proud of Monty and Bopara AND Saj and Aamir Khan (the Boxer!) etc.. I think they are all encouraging Asians to participate in sport and is a great thing for England too,to send out the right vibes Roll on the day a Leicester born Indian plays for Leicester City FC (Hope im alive to see it!!!)
Flynny Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Personally I would prefer Vaughn opening with Bell in at 3 though. Just remembered why I didn't like Vaughan at 2. I knew there was a real reason for it - the theory goes something like captains don't open because they need a bit of a break from directing things on the field. Also, if we lose an early wicket, I'd rather it be Bell off and Vaughan coming out than the other way round. Vaughan seems stronger mentally and slightly less likely to go cheaply.
Raj Posted 31 July 2007 Posted 31 July 2007 Im still contemplating taking my old England footie top and my India Cricket top when i go to the Edgbaston game, and then depending on who's winning put the corresponding top on...BUT i'd get battered by my mates!
Raj Posted 8 August 2007 Posted 8 August 2007 Dont forget boys the final Test against India at The Oval tomorrow!!!!! And don't forget the jelly beans!!!!
Raj Posted 9 August 2007 Posted 9 August 2007 SSSSsssshhhhhhh seems to have gone awfully quiet in this thread!!!! 117-1
Milky Posted 9 August 2007 Posted 9 August 2007 SSSSsssshhhhhhh seems to have gone awfully quiet in this thread!!!!117-1 Hugely crucial toss to win. India have been extremely fortunate in this series.
Raj Posted 9 August 2007 Posted 9 August 2007 Hugely crucial toss to win. India have been extremely fortunate in this series. Yeah really really fortunate!!!!
Milky Posted 9 August 2007 Posted 9 August 2007 Yeah really really fortunate!!!! 1)Saved by weather in the first test when one wicket away from defeat. 2)Had suberb bowling conditions in the first day of second test, conditions not seen when india's turn to bat. 3)Win toss today on batting paradise. The two teams are very even in quality, and these things have tipped it India's way. If you can't see that you know nothing about cricket.

You had one wicket with at least 4-5 hours of play left, it rained for the remainder of the day. How is that making your own luck, thats an area of low pressure making your luck, it's not an excuse it's the truth.

Dr The Singh Posted 9 August 2007 Posted 9 August 2007 Good team that...and it has 2 INDIANS involved!!!! Don't label people, just cus they maybe of Indian origin does not make them Indian, I am of Indian origin and if you called me Indian I would be offended, I was born and bred here and people from kinship have more rights and better treatment in Britian then India!!!

Seems to me they want to be seen as English as well, hence why they decided to play for England.

Listen pal....ive got people in my friends and family who support England in this series and some (like me!0 who want India to win. Its a matter of choice. I love Leicester, and i too was born and bred here and love being here. BUt in my view ,whilst i am called paki,wog...etc....by bigits i can never claim to be British 100%. If i said i was Britis to some of the people at work they would laugh at me. They even say to me'your boys are doing alright today" You feel 100% british and support England and would be offended if you were called an Indian, good luck to you.
