Where else do we need to strengthen?

Considering we have signed 12 players, I still think we need more if we want to push towards the play-offs, but having said that we shouldn't be expecting a promotion push this season, should we? I think we still need another 3 new players to be anywhere near good enough to challenge over 46 games for the top 6.

The positions i'm worried about are left wing, possibly left back and although we've signed a striker I still think we could do with one more if Hammond, de Vries and Fryatt are expected to leave soon.

I'm concerned we don't really have a play maker in the team, Clemence will keep things ticking over as will Kishishev and Wesolowski when they play. Hellings, i've never seen, so haven't got a clue what he'll get up to. I think we're still crying out for an attacking midfielder, whether they play in the centre or on the wing, we need one. I see Jimmy Smith from Chelsea is going to Norwich on loan, he's a decent prospect who likes to get amongst the goals.

I'm wondering whether we'll see a couple of loan deals from Premiership clubs to plug any remaining gaps? I'd welcome one or two, someone like Merida from Arsenal or Armand Traore for the left hand side would be quality.

I'm probably asking for too much, we must remember where we were last season and the signings we were making. But I just can't help wanting us to sign a couple more flair players that can really hurt teams.

Defensively i'm not sure about either, that's why some attacking menace from midfield is required to take the pressure off our defence. McAuley and Kisnorbo might look good individually but together last season they had a hack at times. N'Gotty knows the score, but has he got the minerals for more than a game here or there?

Goalie wise it's a lottery we have 4 of similar ilk by the sounds of it, let's hope Allen can sense when a clanger is coming from each of them and manages to drop them before it happens.

I think our strongest area next season will be the right side of defence and midfield, Chambers and Kaebi or Newton could really tear in to some mediocre teams next season, because let's face it that's what the majority of the teams in our league are. I just hope Kaebi can settle here, he's an unknown quality and that could be a dangerous asset for us next season.

Does any of this make sense or is it Thracian-esque? Well it wouldn't be the same if I didn't mention the Academy. I'm excited at seeing whether Mattock, Gradel, King & others can step up to the plate this season. Gradel looks the real deal to me, King hasn't seemed to feature in the friendlies much yet, wonder why? But anyway, I think under Allen if they can impress in training and the reserves and the first team aren't cutting it then they'll be in like a shot. Let's just hope we clear out the dead wood like Kenton, Hughes, Maybury & Elvis, etc so that the youngsters get a fair crack in the reserves and any other opportunities that arise.

One or two reliable players on the left side but I think it's positive that he must be willing to use Mattock, Porter, Sheehan and Hayes. Also I'd go for Fryatt out and someone else in personally but don't mind too much. I get what you're saying about the attacking midfielders but I don't think it matters as much as people on here make out.

I'm just thrilled we've signed all these players and we'll be difficult to play against at last.

To add a play maker in the centre mid would be nice aswell!!!

A cheeky £1 million bid for Danny Rose from Leeds, they reckon he's gonna be as good as Aaron Lennon but on the left wing. A signing like that would be a massive gamble but could be a stunner.

Been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham quite strongly. Dunno why I'm even replying to this, would never happen for so many reasons. :D

I cant see us signing another GK and am not convinced by the position. On the plus side we should have hungry goalkeepers fighting for position.

In defence we have great balance IMO. McAuley, Kisnorbo and N`Gotty for the central positions, Mattock, Sheehan and Chambers able to play on the left with the latter seemingly first choice right back. Kishishev played loads of his career at RB so can fill in if needed and then we have the back-up players like kenton and Maybury who may up there game now that they realise that they wont be guaranteed starters. Lets not forget Stearman as well who is due a big season and can play in most defensive possies and even in midfield.

In midfield it looks equally as competitive. Kaebi should start right-wing but can also play RB well and if he starts on the wing will battle Shaun Newton for the position. On the other flank we`ll have Levi who is open to improvement and Hayes who has looked the part in pre-season and I suppose the mysterious (lol) Hellings. In the middle we have a combative if not too creative midfield in Weso, Kishishev and Clemence to choice from. Stephen Hughes looks like he may stay to give us more options here too and it will be interstesting to see if Gradel and King progress from last season.

Upfront is very similar to defence and midfield in where I havent the foggiest who will start the season as a partnership. DJ Campbell Im sure will start the season as first choice but the coin is in the air as to who partners him. Cort, Hume, Fryatt or even De Vries?? Elvis looks like his Leicester career is over and someone like Stevenage should snap him up as he`ll easily score 5 goals in a season for them.

At this stage the squad is big and almost messy but its a flexible squad with so many permutations. I cant wait for the first game because the way that I feel at the moment is that I am not sure about quite a few of our signings and on the other hand I cant wait to see if they gel and are any good!!

To finally answer the question lol, Its a weird one! If this was Football Manager 07/08 I`d probably list 3/4s of the squad and go for so called proven players like Danny Murphy!!!!!! As it is, I wouldnt bother signing anyone else and save the cash until the next transfer window and see how we go in the first few months.

But Fezzy, we beat off stiff competition from Liverpool and Middlesborough for the striking sensation Reneil Sappleton. Surely the same protocol would apply for Rose? It's in the bag, lad.

It's the sort of thing I'd do on FIFA or Football Manager though.

Spot on. My sentiments exactly, i think Clemence will do a more than capable job of being the more attack minded midfielder making the passes and setting up the strikers .

And don't forget Sheehan on the left :P

The bench. Cort's not a light man and if De Vries is on there with him we could run into trouble.

The bench will be like a see-saw if those two fookers are on it next season. Let's hope they plant Stearman firmly in the middle, perhaps with some bricks in his pockets, otherwise he'll end up in L1.

:worship: I have to agree with all you say! Our squad is getting bigger and bigger and really does look a bit of a mess at the moment. I would ideally like to smarten the edges up a bit and get rid of a few players like DeVries, Hammond, Hughes, Maybury etc. I would also like a few more additions. Our midfield as it is will be extremely competitive next year and I think we will be very strong defensively. I think having two defensive central midfielders though will put a lot of pressure on the wide men to provide most of the attacks, which is fine but are Hayes/Porter or Kaebi/Newton good enough to create us goals!? Who's going to take free kicks and corners for us? I know Hume is ok taking them but I would like someone like Indiakez. It will be very exciting though to see how our team will come together. Also, i'm sure if things aren't looking brilliant in January, then MM will once again bring players in. It's just great to finally have a good chairman and money to spend. Imagine what it would be like now if MM had never bought us..... I'm thankful for everything at the moment!

Definitely the left side.

Hayes will more than likely be a squad player even though he seems to of impressed a few over pre-season. As for Porter, I'm unsure how Martin Allen sees him, I haven't seen much of him during pre-season.

Sheehan, whether he stays or not still seems to be in some doubt. Secondly Mattock, who played very well at the end of last season, might not vet ready to play left back for the whole season.

Remeber reading Allen say a couple of days ago there were 3 or 4 still coming in.

1. Was DJ

2. Left Mid?

3. Left BAck?

4. Centre Back?

i dont see what is wrong with Hayes? He looks like a very creative player and mows around the pitch a fair bit too! Is there a problem cus he is a ginger? lol !

Left back could be our problem position, altho chambers could switch there and Sheehan is a natural there...

As for the centre midfield i think were fine, i think Humey will drop a little deeper if Campbell is to be his strike partner...

I just hope we don't suffer any lack of creativity in the middle of the park. Clemence, Kishishev and Weso aren't exactly what you call play-makers.
