teblin Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Isnt this the second time we've been linked with Stefanovic now? We got linked with him when milan first took over.
Ashley Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 We got linked with him when milan first took over. So yeah it is the second time we've been linked with him. I doubt he'll come to us.
Geo V Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Most Prem clubs are yet to complete their squads so as new players come in, the likes of Stefanovic will slip down the pecking order. Its not unreasonable to think the likes of Stefanovic can come to us given his age and the way that the Prem clubs have slung millions in improving their squads. In Pompeys case they have added Distin from Man City, Hermann Hreidarsson from Charlton and given Linvoy Primus a new deal so deals like this are not out of our reach, especially with the Milan factor.
Thracian Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 It got us promoted How many times have I heard of people winning by backing odd numbers on a roulette table - then losing every time through doing the same thing thereafter. I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong to go for Unsworth or Stefanovich - it depends on how good they are these days. But we need full-backs capable of attacking whatever their age. Despite all the misery of our recent seasons I cannot see why that fact is so ignored. Nils was a reliable, experienced defender. He wasn't good enough. The youngster, Gilbert, who went to Sheffield was the same... If it is shown - as so many seem to blandly assume for whatever reason - that Sheehan cannot defend well enough, then we need someone who can defend but can also do what Sheehan does as an attacker. Half a good full-back will get us no-where - as has already been seen.
Ric Flair Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 So yeah it is the second time we've been linked with him.I doubt he'll come to us. Stefanovic did say that he'd be interested in a move here, if it didn't work out at Pompey. This was last February/March time when he said it, so there could be a chance we could get him.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Seeing the way we defended for those goals on Saturday, I'd have no qualms whatsoever about us paying out a hefty wedge for Stefanovic.
Simi Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Surely this would mean our defence would be one of the slowest in the Championship

teblin Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Surely this would mean our defence would be one of the slowest in the Championship Chambers is quick. as is Kisnorbo.

Half a good full-back will get us no-where - as has already been seen. There is a distinct lack of decent left-backs in football, especially at this level. Its easier said than done to simply say we need a left-footed player who maybe hasn't got the ability. I`d much rather have a Stefanovic or Unsworth at this level who has a wealth of experience than someone who is a bit faster and has a decent left peg in simply because they look the part. Both aforementioned transfer targets would offer us plenty more when defending set-pieces and attacking than Mattock or Sheehan and have a wealth of experience. There organizational skills in defence will also be immense and as others have mentioned on other threads, someone like Gerry Taggart was slow but made his presence felt by great positioning. Dont get me wrong, I rate Mattock highly but to expect a lad so young to play 50 odd games at this level is too big an ask and Sheehans future may well lie away from us this season on loan.
Simi Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Chambers is quick.as is Kisnorbo. N Gotty, McAuley and Stefanovic could all be in our back four on the opening day of the season.
Ric Flair Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 He probably didn't think Rangers would be interested when he said that though I'm sure i've read that he wants to stay in English football and that he owes Mandaric a lot to his career.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Chambers is quick.as is Kisnorbo. surely that's a joke ??
The People's Hero Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Ka'abi at sweeper. This doesn't fit with the XI Porters dream.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 I'm sure i've read that he wants to stay in English football and that he owes Mandaric a lot to his career. I hope you're right but 99% of footballers are fickle, Stefanovic may not be one of these but personally I think if Rangers came in as strong as we might he would go there.
Thracian Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 Chambers is quick.as is Kisnorbo. I've never considered Kisnorbo to be quick... on or off the ball. He sometimes reads the crosses well and reacts decisively but then spoils good work with his woeful distribution.

Interested to see so many people now describing his distribution as woeful. I always had it down as partly due to the static nature of our 'midfields' of last season.. I appreciate Kisnorbo doesn't have the best passing ability nor the vision/precision of some, but never considered his distribution to be that bad.

Thrac rates intelligent classy players who read the game well and have superb distribution, which is extremely important at this level no doubt. Thats why Elvis is his favourite and Louis Dodds is his second fav. I forgot about the superb Levi in at number 3!
Daggers Posted 6 August 2007 Posted 6 August 2007 I'm trying to recapture the love that I lost when you left me. Leave the seat up - you reap what you sow.

I didn't say he wouldn't find it easier with better midfield players or, indeed, with N'Gotty alongside him. So long as he can be persuaded to pass a bit quicker and not to hit em more than 10 yards it might not be a problem.

I appreciate Kisnorbo doesn't have the best passing ability nor the vision/precision of some, but never considered his distribution to be that bad. I think most of our problems last season were because of the static nature of our midfield. I don't think that will be as much of a problem this season. Besides Kisnorbo doesn't need vision/precision...he's a defender. N'Gotty/Kisnorbo will be our first choice defensive partnership.

Hume, Wesolowski, Campbell, Clemence, Kishishev, N'Gotty, Porter, McKay, Odhiambo, Gradel. Fryatt and Ashley Chambers might join that lot if both stay fit. King and Dodds if they ever play in their proper positions or, indeed, are ever seen at Leicester again.
