Bojimha Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 I seen the game on Saturday night, it was shocking but then he got up and I thought they only took him off as a precaution! Very sad news. RIP
shen Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Terrible news. RIP. It does make me wonder though. Why are so many footballers killed by heart attacks these days? It wasn't like that before, was it? I might be a bit cynical, but it's a known fact that players get pumped up with hormones already at a young age, and while it's been kept reasonably quiet so far (with the exceptions of Davids, Mutu and others) drugs are quite common in football. Surely these have something to do with some if not most of these deaths in recent years.
MC Prussian Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Dead. Was just on SSN. I saw the picture of him walking back into the changing room. Apparently, he suffered five strokes within only a couple of minutes. R.I.P. What's with footballers and early death these days? Somewhat eerie.
The Reverend Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 I am shocked by this. A good player from what i've heard, its unbelievable how this has happened, and now Clarke collapsing its very, very sad indeed.
Simi Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 This is absolutely unbelievable, with what has happened tonight caps off a very sad week for football. RIP.

There was certainly no evidence to link Marc-Vivien Foe or Matt Gadsby (the Hinckley player who died last season) with drug use and there probably won't be with Puerta either. Deepest condolences to his family and club.

There was certainly no evidence to link Marc-Vivien Foe or Matt Gadsby (the Hinckley player who died last season) with drug use and there probably won't be with Puerta either.Deepest condolences to his family and club. But then theres Miklos Feher, and now Clive Clark. There most be something linking them. I've never herd of a perfectly healthy man in his 20's dropping dead of a heart attack, and alot of the 20 somethings I know are very far from proffesional athletes.
Dames Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Maybe its something to do with thier diets i don't know. But it seems very odd that quite a few professional atheletes that are young and very fit seem to be getting heart failure. Really is confusing.
Ultra Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 As far as Clarke is concerned, none of his four previous clubs picked up on any heart condition, so it's not surprising we didn't. Fortunately he was in a place where medical treatment could be given promptly and he could be moved to a suitable treatment centre nearby. Like I said, some heart conditions are undetectable and can become active at any age. We have to assume that it's a coincidence that two players, both international defenders, have been struck down within days of each other.
jaffa1970 Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 r.i.p. condolences to his teammmates, friends and family
sevillafc Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Hi everyone, im a Sevilla FC fan and we´ve had the saddest day of our club´s history, in my opinion. I send you my support to Clive Clarke from Spain, I´ve heard he vanished in a match, the same that happened to Antonio Puerta. We´ve had the worst news, we´ve cried a lot and all I want is that naobody else has to get through the same whe did, and suffer as much as us. I hope Clive gets well and this to be nothing but a fright. All Seville want Clive Clark to get well!

MC Prussian Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 This whole "footballer dies of heart failure" thing is scaring the shit out of me atm. I'm getting paranoid. What a tragic loss. Condolences to his friends and family. R.I.P.
Phube Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 But then theres Miklos Feher, and now Clive Clark. There most be something linking them. I've never herd of a perfectly healthy man in his 20's dropping dead of a heart attack, and alot of the 20 somethings I know are very far from proffesional athletes. It happens more often than you know, as Ultra says people can be born with dodgy hearts which are undetected at birth and as they don't present with problems in later life. Then they can just go off, like that!!
Guest seanfox778 Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 This is awful news especially for his 7 month pregnant girlfriend, i can't even imagine how she will cope with this. it was quite moving to see fans of seville and their big rivals real betis paying tribute and all singing his name together. RIP
Raj Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Dont really follow Spanish footie, but for anyone to lose their lives at such a young age is horrendous. For an athlete who had a promising career ahead of him,it makes it even more tragic. RIP

Every week 8 'apparently' fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions. Since the Matt Gadsby tragedy, fans and players of Hinckley United and the club itself have become more involved with the C.R.Y charity. Take a look at their site: http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/
