Manwell Pablo Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 It keeps saying Clive Clarke was revived with a defibrillator but what exactly is one? Electronic pads that are placed on the patients chest, they discharge electricity, dunno how it works exactly but it gets your heart going again. You must of seen them on't Tele, you know. "Charging, CLEAR, Booof" Although I think they're all automatic now so theres no need for that.

They are only used when a patient is in VF (Ventricle Fibrilation; rapid uncontrolled beating of the ventricles). The shock actually stops the heart. This is in the hope that when the heart starts by itself it starts beating normally again!
