August - How do you review this month?

Recommended Posts

I thought about the idea of this a couple of weeks ago where we can possibly have a review of each month that has gone by so I`ll start it off for August and will see if it is popular enough for people to give an opinion or whether it disappears into the Bermuda Triangle of Foxestalk threads lol. BTW, the initial idea was to rate the manager but we cant do that for this month lol

Anyway, for me, its been one mixed up month that was both as amazing as it was surreal. Its bad enough for me being a Leicester fan in London surrounded by Arsenal and Spurs fans with them taking the pi$$ but even by our strange standards, this month has been weird.

Postives

Ive been lucky enough to see 3 of this seasons games and I was impressed with the steady improvement shown by the team which culminated in the demolition of Watford. I was happy with MA`s ability to raise the tempo of performance at HT after his chats as that usually saw us do better in the second half of games although the scoreline at Blackpool didn't prove our dominance the performance deserved. We also beat Watford 3-1 and Palace 2-1 in the 2nd half of games which was a sign of character as well as ability. Even more important for me was the energy and pace that we have shown this season. At times last season we were so slow and predictable but this season we have shown more urgency and willing. Only a few games in we should all be confident that we have a team that will compete in the top half of the table which is a real confidence booster to the fans although with the outlay we have had, anything less would probably be a worry! Also on the pitch the MDV fight back and winning the fans around was a real plus as most of has had thought that he was another set to leave.

I was pretty happy with the way the squad was forming with the International clearance of Kaebi being confirmed and the deadline day signing of Ferreira. The loan signings of Fulop and Clarke were also great deals for the club. Loaning out the like of Gradel, Odhiambo and Logan was also a step in the right direction for some of our kids and we finally managed to get rid of Hughes. Keeping Matty Fryatt was also a good thing IMO as I think he can offer the squad plenty. I also thought that the support that we have given the lads at home was a bit nosier than I had envisaged which is a good sign and the amount of fans who came through the door for the first two home games of this season was significantly up as we have seen just over 48,000 through the turnstiles this season compared to just under 38,000 for the first two games of last season.

Negatives

MA`s sacking. I wont regurgitate the same old stuff that many have been writing for days but I was initially unhappy with the dismissal as I thought he had the charisma and more importantly was showing signs of making a newly built side gel. I wasn't happy with the way this was handled in the media by MM either as rumours of MA`s departure first surfaced a week or two back but I felt something was brewing when MA kept on coming out and saying that nothing was wrong whilst MM stayed in the background and mostly silent.

On the pitch conceding a late equalizer at Palace was harmful as away wins are so important to a team that wants promotion and on the transfer front, our inability to sell the likes of Hammond, Douglas and Maybury was annoying as was the fact that we maybe didn't replace Clarke at LB. The whole game against Forest was also weird with there fans all coming out trying to tell us that we mean nothing to them and they continued the disrespect when the tragedy happened to poor Clarke by goading the fans in the ground and getting racist out of the stadium.

All in all its been another hectic month but we still have reason to be optimistic (please join the bus lol). September will be an interesting one that will see us name a new manager and on the pitch we have a break initially for International footy before we entertain QPR, travel to Forest for what will be an edgy evening for more reasons than just the game, we then travel to one more of the favourites of the division in Charlton before coming back to the Walkers to play Stoke.

What are your thoughts of August??

Improvement on last season, All I want this season is improvement. Simple.

Disastrous and very sad in this last week, but on the field it's what I have expected and wanted, would want to finish in our current position but I honestly don't think we will, although we can't predict too much for the future of this season due to be in limbo over the manger, e.t.c.

It's been an Ok start, could have possibly been better, but could have been a lot worse.

A great win/performance against Watford and a couple of good performances in different halves have been encouraging. I'm expecting us to play better and get results we need once we have a settled team, and of course a manager.

Eventful. :ermm:

The performance against Watford was very promising but then the first half against Forest was a bit of a reality check. Blackpool certainly had many positives, we created a lot of chances, unfortunately to no avail. Then Palace, where Weso and Clemence seemed to cement themselves as our two strongest centre midfielders. The re-emergence of De Vries into the first team was also a positive.

5 points in total and a cup win, one of our players cheating death and a complete coaching re shuffle. Roll on September.

not much happened really

but seriously apexgeo ; you pretty well summed it up to a tee

we live in interesting times

Pure madness for me!! :w00t:

1st blakpool - very disappointing result but sure signs of improvement on previous years, and we would have been good value for a point possibly 3

Accrington - Very poor but it was a tough position for the players. Unfamiliar surroundings and with huge expectancy with almost more city fans there than Accrington's. Job done, very unconvincing though and possibly the worst performance thus far.

Palace - we looked poor 1st half going forward and leaving Hume out didn't work, 2nd half we went for it and were the better side. Same old last minute conceding though in a game we should have won. On paper though Selhurst is a horrible place to go and I'd certainly have taken a point pre match.

Watford - Great display, started a little slow, Hume's brilliant goal settled us and from them on it was one of the best home performances I've seen in a very long time.

Forest - One to forget really, we were poor till h/t and what happened with Clarke happened and the best news of the season so far is the fact he is still alive. Horrible night if I'm honest.

plymouth - Good point, another extremely tough place to go but we held it together where in previous seasons we'd have held on till 80 minutes, conceded and it's a long drive for fck all, but yesterday we did the full 90 and had one or two attacks ourselves.

Combine all that with Allen going and it feels like the longest month ever but truely entertaining and I fell I've had my moneys worth.

Best moment: Kisnorbo's goal at palace the sheer celebrations and pile on which followed, fantastic stuff :D

Worst moment: either palaces last minute equaliser or walking out of the walkers after blackpool after so much optamism and loosing.

Overall, August has disappointed me.

But still, if we had this month in any of last seasons months it would still have been the best :w00t:

Disappointing.

Not a great start but more worringly the stench of last season and the few before is still lingering. Add to that the almost laughable sacking of the manager 4 games in.

Things can only get better. Please God.

Posted

Well it certainly hasn't been a boring one! I agree with Tommeh, best moment was definitely Kisnorbo's goal at Palace, although the fan on the pitch at half-time at Forest was quality entertainment as well.

Let's see what September has to offer us.. :)

Well I wanted 6 pts out of the first four games (1 win 3 draws) and we've got 5 so it's not great. Then adding the farce with M'allen and Mandaric, it's disappointing.

at least it kept the competition between optimistic and pessimistic buses alive :D

everyone is so confused now they don't know which way to jump :S

Why August was a great month:

  • We didn't lose at Palace
  • We didn't lose at Plymouth
  • We didn't lose at Forest
  • We stuffed one of the pre-season top-tips
  • Clark & Fulop are useful
  • Steven Hughes has finally gone
  • We got someone from Benfica
  • We showed more spunk and ability (in patches) than last season ~ giving promise to the future
  • We all got to have a bloody good moan about Allen's sacking ~ and no one enjoys a good moan more than a City fan :D
  • There are still loads of matches left
  • We might sign a decent manager
  • MDV has improved
  • Hume plays well on the right
  • DJ scored 2 in 3 outings
  • The holiday in France was lovely and I did loads of cycling up big hills

We signed someone from Benfica, that's made my month.

lol Agreed. I never thought I'd hear the same clubs mentioned in the same breath to be honest

Not impressed.

=============

Players arrived who the manager didn't want.

Backroom staff were sacked and probably shouldn't ever have been employed here.

There was the publicly embarraassing JFH farce.

Martin Allen was forced out in bizarre circumstances without any sort of chance to achieve success or even present a team that he actually wanted.

The team did not look anything like as good as I expected overall.

Points were thrown away (Blackpool, Palace in the last minute) in two out of four games. And we hardly distinguished ourselves at Accrington or Forest.

The Clarke episode was a shock which also brought undignified controversy.

MM has made it clear that his modus operandi will make it difficult fo anyone to manage the team as they would wish.

There were rays of hope:

================

The team looks more capable than the previous one and there's better back up.

Certain players seemed to improve considerably under MA and perhaps that won't change under a new manager.

Some positions have been strengthened, particularly midfield and right back.

=============

But overall I'd give MM 3/10 for his performance so far. His judgement in appointing a manager, his apparent influence over signings, his stiffling interference and much more has not enhanced our club's reputation one bit thus far.

We've been in the news for far too many of the wrong reasons on what is his watch and the only real plus about his presence is, rather as you might expect, one or two improved sponsorship arrangements, the better of his signings and the extraction of £600,000+ for McCarthy.

I'd like to think he could only improve but there is no guarantee. He's got to find a credible manager for a start. One who is willing to sell his soul to indulge a man to whom loyalty, fairness, patience and sensitivity appear to be dirty words

But as people have said, at least if won't be boring off the field even if much of the football remains tedious and unenlightened.

In a word Fair

some good perfomances a couple of decent signings but we don't have a manager

Hey swings & roundabouts i say  August was a good month i turned 21 celebrated that several times :P

I wrapped up the last important meeting in my big insurance claim thingy after 2 & a half years

I got laser eye surgery after being near partially sighted since school & can see perfect :w00t:

& started using my 1st full season ticket at leicester including forest away being drawn in the cup, & if we beat them then

play villa away who i have several friends that follow so i really need that. Everything just seems to be on the up

& although some questionable events have gone on at leicester we are still in our healthiest position as a club since Martin

O'neil which lets face it is long time ago now & if we had to keep hangin on to that as when we were good we'd end up

sounding like forest fans pretty sharpish

To summarise Its all good in the hood :D :fox: :scarf:
