Ric Flair Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 I know it's early days, but I think that's going to be the problem. Megson's success at West Brom was having a team that was defensively very tight and could grind out results. A term I hate in football because there aren't many teams that can do it. It's a term that's often used incorrectly and used when teams play shit football. But because this squad of players, although there's been plenty of changes, doesn't look comfortable when sitting back and closing out a match, I can't see how Megson can hit the ground running and get us up the table. Either he'll ditch that style of football and look at developing our players attacking instincts and demand they kill matches off. Or somehow he'll manage to get the mentality of this team to change over night and be comfortable of defending tightly when we take the lead or look to close out for a point. I don't like that type of football because there's not a lot of margin for error, but Megson built his success using those principles at West Brom. I can't see him being allowed to bring in 7 or 8 new players to fit in to his system either, so i'm worried how things are going to work. I didn't like his substitutions on Saturday, they were negative and if they don't pay off like Saturday then it's embarrassing, especially at home. Taking off a striker and a winger and putting on a defender and defensive midfielder is fairly worrying stuff. We have flair players like Kaebi, Djeziri and Ferreira waiting in the wings. Looking at our bench on Saturday you could tell that if things weren't going to plan, there was nothing other than defensive types of player to bring on. Either Ferreira and Kaebi need to start or at least have them on the bench to come on and change things. I think we could be in for another rude awakening tomorrow night. Chris Cohen is back for Forest and he's fearless. I think we need to unleash our own lunatic in Kaebi and Ferreira should be walking in to our line-up given his pedigree and our problems out wide. I want to be supportive of Megson but i'm scared already. I hope he can identify with the players early on as he's obviously quite a shrewd manager. He needs the right environment though, he doesn't seem to be the sort who can adapt, more like others have to around him.
Daggers Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Flair is the FoxesTalk barometer. I see inclement weather coming.
Ric Flair Posted 17 September 2007 Author Posted 17 September 2007 Well that didn't last long. As you very well know, I often don't practice what I preach! Megson gives me the heebie geebies already.
The People's Hero Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 As you very well know, I often don't practice what I preach! Megson gives me the heebie geebies already. I fear we've gotten to the bottom of the recent foot and mouth outbreaks. *gives Fez a chance to makes his foot&/futon joke*
eaststandtom Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 i think he will look at the squad and choose who, from the old and a new, he can fit and organise together and who will become surplus to requirements. this will take a while but afterwards i hope consistancy in the team selection will arrive. grind is not a word associated with good football but 'grinders' was on the drsssing room wall during the brian little days and it brought success
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Olé! I have grown to despise these kneejerk reactions people like Ultra and Thracian give after one game. I'm convinced they love saying "I told you so". Personally I'm going to give Megson a month or so before I decide what kind of manager he is. West Brom is in the past now. We have some exciting attacking players. Let's hope he uses them. He didn't even pick the f**king team on Saturday for crying out loud. If we'd have won the game convincingly I wonder how much praise he'd have received on here. Actually, I don't wonder, I know. It'd have been virtually nil. It would all have been heaped on Rudkin, Beaglehole, Stowell and Taggart. Whereas all of those escaped any criticism at all it seems for Saturday, despite the fact they know the squad far better than Megson. He wasn't even my tenth choice and I was disappointed when he arrived but it does no good to be negative towards him before he's even had a chance to pick a team. Let's at least be neutral until he proves one way or the other what he'll be like as our manager.
Ricey Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 His subtitutions on Saturday were very Micky Adams/Rob Kelly like, very worrying indeed. I'm hoping he has the knowledge to realise that we have a squad of attacking players, let's make the most of that.
The People's Hero Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Being serious (for one post only) - give Megson a chance. He was very few supporters' first choice, but he's here now and he will remain so until either something unforeseen happens, Milan upsets him and he walks, or Milan gets bored and spots a shiny new puppe errrrr manager he likes the look of. Megson is not my sort of manager, but his track record in this division is not that awful. Moreover our squad really isn't that bad - it's still early days yet in terms of the squad even gelling together especially with the late additions of Fulop, Ferreira and the relatively new Ka'ebi coming in from abroad, they really do need to adjust to life in Lestoh. Overall I think all the doom and gloom is an overreaction. Megson is competent if unadventurous in the transfer market, he's tactically cautious but stable and he's a sensible non-media attention seeking manager. He strikes me (albeit only an impression) as being diligent, hardworking and conscientious. He quite simply bit off more than he could chew with Forest. At WBA he always did a good job in my opinion, very very astute in the transfer market at times, although I think the profit he made on players is something of a misnoma as they were endemic of an inflating transfer market at the time. Still, all this 'our squad is worse than average' and 'Megson is appalling' are overreactions. Give Megson and our current squad a chance. Right, now I'm going back to dicking about. Jablo.
Manwell Pablo Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Ole. He is right, if we'd of held onto the lead on Saturday we'd of been 6th so I hear? no one would be moaning then I gurantee! Give the bloke at least 5 or 6 games before declaring he's useless. (before anyone calls me up for contradicting myself I'm not happy he's in charge, he wouldn't be my choice as manager, however he's here now and theres not alot we can do about it besides hope he can steer his mangerial career back on track. )
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Give Megson a chance what did he have 48 hours to make his mark on a squad that someone else has put togther
Master Fox Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Give Megson a chance what did he have 48 hours to make his mark on a squad that someone else has put togther I’ve just decided that I don’t actually care. I hope we remain shit forever and Fryatt becomes captain of England.
Jimmy Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Give him a couple of weeks until HE starts to know what the players are like and he's not managing from second hand knowledge
Ric Flair Posted 17 September 2007 Author Posted 17 September 2007 I stand by my concerns. It's a problem several managers have had with us in recent years. We can't be a defensively tight team, so Megson has got his work cut out. I hope he can sort us out, i'm literally as bored and frustrated as i've ever been with Leicester after recent weeks. I'm sure that will change in the coming weeks, we've got Mandaric after all.
Daggers Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Two, one, two, three, four Ev'rybody's talking aboutTaggsism, Kellyism, Leveinism, Allenism,Beagleism, StowellismThis-ism, That-ism, is-m, is-m, is-mAll we are saying is give Meggs a chance,All we are saying is give Meggs a chance I'm going to be neutral. Manwell Pablo Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 I'm with Dagblo on this.We getting a bandwagon set up? Yes, but the wheel fell off it when Billy Mitchell was dragging it through the Market place. So we've got to wait for that weird Mancunian/Scouse/I can't work out what he is bloke to come and fix it for 20 quid. He might be awhile, he's arguing with the ugly ginger who sleeps with six girls a week.

He was actually in the Haymarket. And they were old, drug riddled, prossies, not 18 year old beauties.

James. Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 You're the one for making things up.And you also probably know more than me about drug riddled prossies too. Seriously. I'm intrigued. Did you make up (or maybe embellish) that teenage stunners story? And also, what about the tall blonde one (you know, the one who lives in Leeds who you warned TBJS about)? Pretty sure I already know the answer to both. Funny.

Listening to his interview on Thursday, I'm hearing that unless we support him and his decisions, he is quite likely to reconsider his position over the long term.

Daggers Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Listening to his interview on Thursday, I'm hearing that unless we support him and his decisions, he is quite likely to reconsider his position over the long term. He doesn't have a long term future, we all know that: He's set to flog us as soon as we get up. All he's going to do is prepare the excuses now - "They never appreciated me". In many ways he's just like Ultra with a bevy of blond crackers. No matter what he does for them they'll never love him.
The People's Hero Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 lol I bet that cut you deep Woolers. It did until I realised that I have a beautiful girlfriend and at least a modicum of self-respect. And no, I'm not selling either to you Ultra.
