Thracian Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 if the football megson produces is scrappy one v nil wins then thats fine by me.besides megson has openly stated he is trying to find a way to play that suits the team. this may not involve out and out wimbledon long ball. but if it does, and it gets result i shall not be complaining. its not like we have been playing like real madrid the past few years. There's little question the team needs a system that suits them better than the 4-4-2 we've laboured with for so long without the benefit of proper wingers. But you can guarantee that system will suit Megson's ideals first and foremost and will be pretty much the one he's used time and again. It's worked before and has as much chance of working again as not. But it won't be compulsive viewing. Anyway I cannot see any real pressure being generated for anything else so the important thing now to see if one goal will be enough to beat Stoke. It would need our first clean sheet of the season at home. Which is a sobering thought and reflects how marginal Megson's approach is likely to be. Stoke City and Wolves in quick succession will be a major test of Megson's philosophies.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 If we've got as many defenders on the pitch tomorrow as we did on Wednesday I'm not bothering with the Wolves game. There, I've said it.
The People's Hero Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 If we've got as many defenders on the pitch tomorrow as we did on Wednesday I'm not bothering with the Wolves game. There, I've said it. What if one of them is Gary Coatsworth? Surely that changes things?
Geo V Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 If we've got as many defenders on the pitch tomorrow as we did on Wednesday I'm not bothering with the Wolves game. There, I've said it. Regardless of the result? Stoke wait on jailed strikerWe know one player wont be quite ready in time for Stoke Stoke are still waiting for striker Vincent Pericard to be released from prison. The former Portsmouth man, 24, has served a month in jail in Bristol after perverting the course of justice and was due to be released on Monday. The forward was jailed after claiming his stepfather Jack, who has not been to England since 2003, was behind the wheel when his car was clocked doing 103mph. The seemingly still have a few injuries and should be playing quite a young defence so lets hope we can take advantage.
Fox in a Box Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 GINGER mourinho has a little inside track on the players of stoke as he used to help out his pal PULIS, I hope this will be of benefit to LCFC as we do need 3pts to kick on and well push us up the table somewhat, 2 games stoke and wolves could really define the season, if we are to beat both then this would really start to mould us hopefully into a top 6 side. Bear in mind we have played one game less than most teams and this shows in the table.
The Reverend Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 I'm (amazingly), quite optimistic about this one. Megson knows the Stoke players probably better than he knows ours at the minute, so theres an advantage. And he seems to have found our best defence. The 3 centre backs in the middle has always been something iv advocated, as i just dont think you can drop any of them as they all have different strengths. Winning teams are built on a solid defence and i think we've finally found that. Only problem is Weso.....
Raj Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 I'm (amazingly), quite optimistic about this one. There's a special bus somewhere for people like you!!!!
Monk Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 I too am quietly optomistic. Namely because I missed the QPR game I see the Charlton performance as a blip on an otherwise OK ish start to the season. I am a big fan of 5-3-2 / 3-5-2 and will be pleased to see it back. We definately have a decent back 3, BUT this does not give anyone an excuse to play Stearman as wing back. We really should be beating stoke. I'd like to see a starting partnership of DJ and Fryatt with Hume/Kish/Clem in the middle. Wingers take your pick, though I can think of some I'd rather play than others. We need GOALS! Get some through balls into Fryatt we all know how good he is with them.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Regardless of the result? Yep. Got more important things to do than watch us hoof our way to a dull-as-f**k 1-0 win.
Raj Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Yep. Got more important things to do than watch us hoof our way to a dull-as-f**k 1-0 win. Tis the future!
Master Fox Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Well, I’m finally going to a game. I’ve taken my season ticket out of the envelope which it arrived in back at the beginning of August. I expect to be entertained or I’ll be fuming with rage!! Knowing my luck Elvis will be starting upfront in 1-9-1 formation.
Ric Flair Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Stoke's strikers have always caused us problems for the past 3 or 4 seasons. Hopefully Megson has the heads up on what Stoke are all about and snuffs them out, but not at the cost of us being able to attack Stoke and win the game. We're at home for fook sake. Sidibe is an absolute shit box, but he saves his 2 goals a season for us. Fuller is slightly better, but again, he shouldn't be scoring as many goals as he does against us over the years. My team would be as follows. Fulop N'Gotty McAuley Kisnorbo Kaebi Chambers Clemence Kishishev Mattock Hume Fryatt Subs: DJ, Stearman, Henderson, Ferreira (if fit) if not Newton or Djeziri, de Vries
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Oh yeah Megson should know all about them. Has someone pointed this out already? Probably.
Milky Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Oh yeah Megson should know all about them. Has someone pointed this out already? Probably. Taggart aswell of course.
The People's Hero Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Erm... who's eaten all the Danish Pastries? There was a huge box here this morning - there was enough to go round. One for everybody. Someone has ruined it for everybody..... Pah.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 September 2007 Posted 28 September 2007 Touché Turtle. I enjoyed that. Banal claptrap is the order of the day now. Stoke City at home has to be one of the most boring games you'll ever have the misfortune to attend and as such, I'm going to pretend I'm not going and use this for my own ends instead. Anyone want a pair of tickets to see The Cribs in Sheffield on the night of our game at Sheffield Wednesday? £11 each face value, I'll take £15 for the pair.
