The People's Hero Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 How is Sheehan still getting picked by the majority of you lot? We may as well start with 10 men and give them a 2nil head start.
Mr Happy Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 On a serious note I reckon we should experiment with team selection tonight. Even if we lose (I mean its not as though anybody here expects us to win is it?) Fulop: GK Kaebi: RWB Stearman: RCB N'Gotty: CB McAuley: LCB Mattock: LWB Hume: RM Kishishev: CM Clemence: CM Sheehan: LM De Vries: ST Subs: Ferriera, DJ, Kis, Chambers and a keeper
Flynny Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Fulop Stearman - N'Gotty - KisnorboChambers------------------------------SheehanClemenceNewton-------------------HumeDJ-----MDV Bench: Henderson, Mattock, McAuley, Fryatt, Kishishev I said something similar yesterday. Newton might be worth a go. He's good at spotting a through-ball, at the very least.

hebangsthedrums Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 What I'd like to see ------------------------ Fulop ------------- N'Gotty Kisnorbo McAuley Chambers ------------------------------ ----- Mattock -------------------Clemence Kishishev ---------------------- -- Kaebi ----------------- Hume ------------- MDV Subs Henderson Stearman Campbell Fryatt King Kaebi in as its a game were expected to lose anyway, and in that position he can move over the pitch without worrying too much about losing his man. As stated MDV does well against Prem oppo and never should have lost his place to cort anyway. Kish can sit deep if Mattock gets forward. I think Megson will play Cort however and at least two of our midfield will be out of position again.
Koke Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Fulop Stearman - N'Gotty - KisnorboChambers------------------------------SheehanClemenceNewton-------------------HumeDJ-----MDV Bench: Henderson, Kaebi, McAuley, Fryatt, Kishishev I said something similar yesterday. Newton might be worth a go. He's good at spotting a through-ball, at the very least. I think with that formation, it'll leave Iain Hume a heavy responsibility in the midfield and that'll restrict him going forward as much as we'd like. I think he'll go with a classic 4-4-2 with Kish and Clemence in the middle with Hume on the right. We gotta be dead tight in the midfield, and here's me hoping our main creative players Hume and Chambers can do some damage on that right hand side.

Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 How is Sheehan still getting picked by the majority of you lot?We may as well start with 10 men and give them a 2nil head start. I'd take us losing only two of the next 12 first team matches Sheehan plays in - to match his first 12 - quite happily. And two goals/one assist in the next six matches to follow on from his first six. But the reason for his selection is simple. People don't think he's the finished article. They don't think he's the best left-back we've ever had. They may share the common concern that he doesn't close down tightly enough. But they also think he's the best left-bck we have available and certainly the most dangerous as an attacker. But then they perhaps watched him more than just the game against Charlton or the away game at Crystal Palace. Sheehan has done well in several first team matches already. Sheffield Wednesday, Watford, Accrington, Watford, Nottingham Forest spring to mind. And seeing it is hard to remember five good matches by any of our recent left-backs I don't think they're bad judges. If a better left-back comes along then Sheehan had better hope he's improved his closing down and his ability to turn onto his right foot... But then I rarely see left-backs anywhere who don't have faults.
Koke Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Sheehan is getting unfair stick I think. He hasn't done too badly in whats his first season with the senior team. He has a non-existent right foot but then again world class players like Ryan Giggs and Marc Overmars also have that. He need to improve but right now what we have Sheehan is the best option.
mancunianfox Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Not sure why everyone is posting these 3 centre back formations as being 3-5-2 and not 5-3-2. Villa do like to attack using wide players and if we play with three in midfield our wing backs are going to have no protection in front of them. They will be easily pegged back into the defense and their oppurtunity to go forward and attack or to win the ball further up the field will be limited because they will leave themselves exposed. If we are going to experiment with three centre backs it definatly shouldn't be against the style of football Villa play. My main concern is that if Villa will attack our left flank (which they must know is our weakness) the defense will show exactly the same lack of communication as against Charlton on Saturday and eventually they will score. I would feel much more confident in our ability to defend with a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1 with N'Gotty in the middle of the defense. Besides if Megson plays three centre backs then it is more likely that we will only play one up front.
Ozwin Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 If Kaebi doesn't play tonight, I'll eat my imaginary hat. He bloody deserves a game that lad, coming into a foreign country and being tipped as the best thing to happen to Leicester in a while and plays in one league game as a sub. >_> Just annoys me. And Sheehan and Mattock are going to get hell tonight, as much as I hate to say it, they're inexperienced and both on the same side. Fair enough if they were spread out but our left hand side/their right wing is going to get battared. Although O'Neil might be a bit sympathetic towards us and not completely destroy us tonight. Do a Tottenham citeh! De Vries, it's your time to shine!

Thracian Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 What I'd like to see ------------------------ Fulop ------------- N'Gotty Kisnorbo McAuley Chambers ------------------------------ ----- Mattock -------------------Clemence Kishishev ---------------------- -- Kaebi ----------------- Hume ------------- MDV Subs Henderson Stearman Campbell Fryatt King Kaebi in as its a game were expected to lose anyway, and in that position he can move over the pitch without worrying too much about losing his man. And if Kaebi plays it will be on merit not because it's a game we don't think we'll win. If tonight's was a game we "should" win (wherever you'd find one these days) would you pick someone else? Cos I'm sure I've not seen anyone better at right midfield. Newton's been okay in patches on occasions but never for 90 minutes and the thing about Kaebi is he doesn't disappear. He makes mistakes, for sure, but he's always involved, always making a contribution. I just hope he has a cracker and cements his place. Cos no-one but Fryatt dare have a bad game these days.
hebangsthedrums Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 I said we are expected to lose, not that I thought we would lose. But yes I do think we will lose. I can't really judge Kaebi on merit as I've never seen him play but going by others feedback, and the fact that we have few outstanding performers I would play him behind a front two. I would say RB/RWB, but Chambers I have seen and is a good player so I would want him in as well. You may not have seen someone better at right midfield, but I picked a 352. If we were playing a lesser side than Villa I would still ply him - when I put the expected result as one reason for his inclusion- I meant in terms of if we get something from the game great - confidence boost, if not - nothing expected anyway so it shouldn't put him on an instant downer. Don't really understand your last paragraph. I know its bit picky but 'if Kaebi plays it will be on merit not because it's a game we don't think we'll win' - how the hell do you know that? I have got no clue how Megson picks his sides and would hope its on merit which seems a logical assumption, but you've spent the past 2 years claiming our managers don't do that, so it seems a bit of a contradiction.

hebangsthedrums Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Never said you have, I'm just saying you have no idea how he picks the team, yet you said Kaebi will be picked on merit. Another one of those situations where you present an opinion as fact.
Lord Nibblington Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 Elvis is back Back to being injured? Certainly.
dog_4 Posted 26 September 2007 Posted 26 September 2007 element of suprise would be amence, for example dzirzi on the left kaabi on the right clemence and kishishev in the centre with hume in behind on the strikers. Fryatt and campbell up front, weren't happen though
