Matt Smith presents coverage of the bout for the Commonwealth Lightweight title at the Nottingham Arena, where Khan makes the first defence of his belt. Khan took the title from Willie Lomond in July but suffered the first knockdown of his career, and needs to be on his guard against his experienced opponent if he is to improve his current world ranking of 18. There's also action from the undercard, as Bradley Pryce faces Martin Concepcion for the Commonwealth Light-Middleweight belt and the vacant English Super-Featherweight title is up for grabs, as Steven Bell takes on Femi Fehintola. I may be slated, but I personally hope Khan gets a bit of a battering tonight. Don't get me wrong, it'd be good to see him make a successful defence as he's a promising talent, but he's just a tad too smug for me. If he gets smashed around a bit but retains the belt on points, I'll be satisfied.

He was lucky in his last fight (Think it was his last fight) looked like he was on the verge of being KOed but totally turned it round, Fair play to the lad, that IMO is what he needed, might have just been a little learning curve and wake up call for him.

Aye against Willie Lomond (or something similar to that, anyway). Put down for the first time in his career but came back and won emphatically. I'd like to see him in a battle tonight. A big one. Plus, I want some sparkly swimming trunks like wot he's wearing. That's class.

These easy victories are working wonders for his confidence and his self-esteem, but to improve himself as a boxer he needs more of a challenge.

I wonder if Khan's procession of pointless opponents is related to the hefty contract Warren has with ITV, and making it last as long as possible. Or is that crazy talk?

Spot on. I loved how on that midweek programme about Khan he said something like 'people say I'm not fighting good fighters, but.....' and then made the crappiest excuse that was so bad I've forgotten it. Thats what puts me off boxing - the amount of time fights are done for the sake of fulfilling contracts and keeping unbeaten records. You rarely get boxers who want to push themselves and fight someone who could actually give them a kicking - thats why I like Hatton and want him to do well, and like the OP would like to see Khan get a bit of a slapping
Geo V Posted 7 October 2007 Posted 7 October 2007 Lawtons fans were great, making it a bit intimidating for Amir which is good as so far everyone was cheering for him. He has learned from his last fight and kept his gloves up and wasn't so reckless but my worry for him is that I am not convinced about his chin. I get worried when someone has a swing and it seems like he cant take a punch although I may be way off on that one?!

Thats what its all about innit??? making as much money as possible without getting hurt and then getting the titles will come along with it. When tyson was banging out Blokes in his early fights in the first rounds Cus D'Amato still took his time getting Tyson a Title shot.In the end with tyson his downfall was too much too soon. Thats what warren is probably trying to avoid with Khan.

You can't really criticize Khan for fighting donkeys who don't punch back either, the calibre of opposition is improving with every fight, Willy Limond knocked him down, Khan had to break his nose and rupture his ear drum before the doctor called the fight off after 9 rounds when Limond sustained a suspected broken jaw. Khan looked like he'd been in a fight. Your comment about you respecting Hatton as he takes on people who might beat him is ridiculous as well. Do you think Hatton was fighting Castillos, Urangos, and Mayweathers after 14 proffesional fights, no he wasn't, in fact he wasnt even fighting them after 24 proffesional fights, the difference between Hatton and Khan is Hattons early career went pretty much unnoticed unless you watch alot of boxing, and Khans early career is being forced fed to the majority of the populaion by Frank Warren because he won a silver medal at the Olympics.

Nope Don't know a lot about boxing and perhaps I'm being unfair, but from my prespective me and my mates watched all of Khan's early fights after all the hype and to see some of the laughable people he beat in minutes was a bit of let down. Not the best analogy but I wouldn't want to see Ronaldinho playing against a Sunday League team, as any pro footballer would look good against them. Yes the opposition are getting better but they couldn't have got much worse - surely his natural ability warranted a slightly higher starting rung. Hatton was a bad example maybe - if I knew enough about his early record though maybe I would be better placed to say if he fought fighters closer to his ability, alas I'm not a boxing buff. Anyway I'm not that arsed - I can take or leave Khan/boxing I would still maintain, even with just a passing interest in boxing, that K
