A more specific case... the public servant that tries to milk their status.

Prime example the other day, a policewoman - travelling non-essentially (i.e. no emergency) - trying to blag a change to an earlier flight than the one she was booked on. Apparently her argument went a little like this:

Pig: I'm on this flight, can I change to the earlier one?

Rep: Yes... it's $100 to change.

Pig: (Points to police badge) Is there anything you can do for me?

Rep: Yeah... I can change you... if you pay me $100.

Pig: (Repeats herself, again pointing to badge repeatedly).

Rep: As I said... pay me $100 and you can go.

Pig: But that means I have to pay out of my own pocket.

At this point, it becomes obvious that she's not even paid for the ticket anyway... which makes anyone dealing with her even less likely to do anything for her. So... she's travelling at the expense of the local ratepayers... and she's trying to blag an earlier flight by using her status as a public servant (pig).

That kind of behaviour doesn't sit well with me at all. I've a lot of time and respect for people who dedicate themselves to the public good - firemen, medics, nurses, doctors and so on... - but as soon as they try and milk their position, I couldn't give a toss about them any more. I find it highly distasteful... if you're doing something that people appreciate/approve of, they will help you without you having to ask for it.

Kinda funny, really, that the police seem to be the worst for this kind of behaviour... perhaps they're not all that important/appreciated after all. I wonder if it's anything to do with their ridiculously placed speed traps that operate around here at silly times of day?

lets not forget.. you make a choice when you enter into a job in the public sector.. having perks is one thing ( nandos on freemans common offer me a 20% discount whenever i show my NHS badge! woohoo!) but expecting it/ having a chip on your shoulder about it when its a job you chose is really pushing it...

Let's have a rant at Peter Serafinawizch, or whatever. Anyone been watching this rubbish? Thursdays are funny? Piss of Peter that was piss poor! How can show show that shit in prime time at our expense.

I can only speak from personal experience....

Nurses: I cannot speak highly enough of the nurses in the renal units at Leicester General, Leeds Jimmy's and York District. Their outstanding competance, professionalism and good humour have helped me through some difficult times.

Estate agents: generally polite and competant, until the sh*t hits the fan. Hint for estate agents - don't do sod all for weeks and then suddenly demand your client gets all their paperwork done yesterday. My last estate agent did that and it took all of my powers of restraint to prevent myself from going round to her office and punching her very hard in the neck and when our house move nearly fell through due to shitness on their behalf.

Teachers: I married one. They are great when you marry them. Although - don't ever marry your current teacher, kids. Unless you want to be in the NOTW.

Recruitment consultants: I have bad experiences of them. They tend to be stunningly good-looking and stunningly thick in equal measure.

Binmen: Our binmen do exactly what they say on the tin. Rubbish, grass, tins, bottles, cans, paper. Gone - every Wednesday. Bosh.

Postmen: My postman is from 1973. He's a seriously crazy dresser. Respect. Although, don't go on strike, you div.

Yep, us teachers are lovely

That bit about "they are great when you marry them"... could you announce that slightly more loudly to anyone eligible please? Sure, my commitment-phobia could be a teeny-tiny problem, but I could surely get therapy or summat for that? :dunno::D

NOTW probably best avoided though.

Literally all of my GFs (inc the present Mrs NW) have been teachers. I'm not sure what that says about me, though? Probably something about discipline...

You need to put yourself out there as you're in a position of great strength in the singles jungle. If you're a teacher, then (in my experience) you're a borderline alcoholic, intelligent, independant and kinky as hell. All these qualities are highly desireable in a ladygirl.

Poor form. 7/10.

See me after class. :nono:

Oh... and in respect to your first point, Mr 'Wider... teachers aren't allowed to cane pupils any more. So you can derail that train of thought right now, young man.

both my brother and sister-in-law were teachers in their early days. Still married after 30+ years. My brothers turned into a poker player sitting at home all day and my sister-in-law does assessments of exam results or something. The eldest son is just starting at Sheffield uni and the girl is a bit of a bright spark too. My brothers got my share of brains. :D

I remember when my brother was teaching in London he got some kids from his maths class to stay behind to study. He had a way of making lessons interesting although its best not to be near when he loses his temper. Sometimes he thinks people should pick up on things as quick as him. :D

One day a father came to his school to have a go at him because he diciplined his son. My brother told him what the lad said to him and the father dragged him off home for further punishment.

Oh the good old days. :D

I did that job for a while. Good fun!

You're always going to upset someone at some point during the day, but if a parcel has to be delivered, so be it. You can't please all the people all of the time.

Pretty sure I was never called a cocksucker, though.. :D

Exercising a little bit of common sense, and consideration for others would mean that you wouldn't upset anyone.

What I want to know is why they think that they are all above the law? Come on, answer that one!!

Hahahahaha!

I know what you are saying, it's just sometimes - not often, you piss someone off!! It's the same in any job really isn't it?

I think I am blessed with a reasonable amount of common sense, and still managed it.

Why are they above the law? Because, generally, they are allowed to get away with stuff I have had Traffic Warden's and the Police completely ignore my "minor breaches". Not speeding, just double-parking, parking on yellow lines, blocking the road....

And if you can get away with it, you'll do it. If it saves time, hazards on and run away :D

I used to deliver photocopy machines and copy paper for Gestetner to North London and the Square Mile - and I'd park on top of old ladies and children if it meant reducing the hell that was carrying these things.

There was a guy in there, just standing there smiling. Was hard doing my business with this bone head standing right there.

He was then putting the tap on for me, putting soap on my hands and giving me tissues.

FFS, im not 5 years old I can wash my own friggin hands.

Did he spray you with Lynx Africa? That happened to me in a club the other week. He wanted £2 for that as well.

NHS Administrators

how do they get away with earning 150k a year and still cock it up

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7040159.stm

He got the sack. Hardly got away with it. Not fair to tar all NHS Cheif Execs with the same brush. A Key part of modernising the NHS is attracting top people to senior roles, and that is a reasonable salary for a role that high profile.

Mind you if my Wife was told by a nurse to bring her own Jif to a labour ward the Chief exec would have me to deal with outside his office very quickly indeed.
