Nurses do bugger all!!! I work in a hospital, (on a ward briefly!) I know. Next time you're in a hospital see who is looking after you... it ain't the nurses, it's the Nursing Assistants (NA's) (on < £16,000). Nurses sit at the desk ignoring people... and thay're bloody good at it!!

It's the NA's who should get a pay rise not Nurses!!!

Nurses are on the same pay scale as me, I consider it a decent wage, not great... but anyone who joins the heath service to get rich is sadly mistaken.

So lets see Nurses; start on £19,600 and can easily (with time) get to £31,000. They retire at 55 (I have to retire at 60 for now), get a (good) final salary pension, 6 months full, 6 months half sick pay. min. of 27 days holiday (29 after 5 years, 33 after 10). Guaranteed 2 payrises a year (for 10 years).

Compare that to any job around the East Midlands and you'll find that's nothing worth moaning about!!!

yeah right , he had the part in his hand when he walked in so he knew by my description of the fault what the problem was ; no doubt there is only 2 or 3 parts that ever need changing , after that they are lost

You have utterly missed the point. The reasons Nurses spend time sitting at desks is becuase they have responsibility. Nursing assistants / Healthcare assistants have very little responsibility. Nurses are overloaded with paperwork documenting everything they do. Literally everything.

I don't know what you do mate, but from your comments I suspect you do not take people's lives in your hands, care for them at their most vulnerable, and no doubt you are not subject to investigation if something is missed while a patient is in your care.

And many Nurses do not work on wards. My wife works in an outpatient clinic which sees 70,000 patients a year. That is non-stop on your feet work, not only physically but mentally draining. If you seriously think that deserves the same money as some skiving git in the post office, or whatever desk job you have landed yourself, you are sorely mistaken.

I work in a teacher training college and thats not true at all. Teaching is a very difficult job, especially for the first five years or so. Secondary schools are an absolute nightmare to work in and given most peoples experience the parents are usually worse than the kids.

Add to that the debt that teachers mount up...many have debts of over £20,000 by the time they are a qualified teacher. If you've done 4 years of higher education and are as academically qualified as most teachers £24k is nothing compared to what you could earn in the private sector.

I don't know what you do in a hospital, but you must go round with your eyes shut. I grant you that NA's do a lot of work, but I think you are missing all the other work Nurses do. In different wards, they'll be the ones sticking you with a needle that might save your life, and if it doesn't, they are the ones who call your nearest and dearest to tell them they need to come in and see you - quick. They are the ones who will cover you up and fill in the crevices when you are dead. That's after they have performed resus procedures to try and keep you alive.

They are the ones who will stitch you up after you have an accident. They are the ones who clean up your urine and excrement when you explode with fear after seeing your injuries.

£30k (MAX)for someone that deals with death and injury, day in, day out deserves more. They save your life, not NA's. And that payscale is UK wide, so it matters not if you are in the East Mids or not.

And where you get those final salary figures from is beyond me. My wife has a pension which will be quite good. Insufficient, but quite good. Bear in mind though, that she has had to work a lot of hours saving ungrateful fcukers, with no thanks from anyone to get this. Guaranteed pay rises? Good Lord! For what they get in those rises, I wish they'd all strike. Then we'd see how many people moan when their loved ones aren't getting any care.

All in an atmosphere of Cdiff, MRSA, death, doom and gloom.

There are happy wards - broken noses, arms and legs etc, but the nurses who have to clean you up, clean up after you etc for 19k - no wonder they are all fcuking off and being posties!!
