The amount they charge for what they actually do is unbelieveable. It's not unusual for them to charge the equivalent 20 per cent of a candidate's first year's salary, so if you go to an agency and get a job that pays you 20k, the recruitment agency might get as much as £4000. I have to use them unfortunately, and when we take people on, the candidates never have a clue how much the agency made on them, and when I tell them they're usually quite surprised - particularly as in some cases they've never actually met anyone at the agency who in some cases have done nothing other than pass on a CV. It makes the charges levied by solicitors and accountants look cheap.

It's like any walk of life though, there are good ones and bad ones. Possibly

Ones who say - we'll deal with that for you, then refuse to give their name.And then they don't do anything or hang up on you.Also, the way that they always pretend they've got a better job than they have.My job is no great shakes, but my mate who just answers the phone reckons he's the senior office co-ordinator.That basically means he answers the phones and fetch files for people who actually have a bit of authority.I also hate the arrogance of people who are in the police. Granted, the police are vital and I'm sure loads of them do a good job... but no one talks about their job so much as fu cking policemen. Oh apart from teachers (in my experience).

I agree with you about that. Offices have the strangest heirachies, especially the silly job titles they come up with to make the slightest little bit of responsibility sound loads more important than it really is.

I am a glorified office worker in that I make decisions on applications and sometimes do open days and stuff. Nothing terribly exciting. You are right that teachers do talk about their job alot. My gf is doing her PGCE at the moment and I hear about it all the time. I think its why teachers nearly always seem to marry teachers as well. What do you do btw? My ex did a PGCE and I completely lost the plot with the whole thing and blame it partly for the complete collapse of the relationship.

Can I just clarify one thing, I'm not having a go at nurses (per say) just the fact that they (along with teachers) always moan about their pay!! When I consider it decent, not good, but decent compared with other jobs out there.

You have utterly missed the point. The reasons Nurses spend time sitting at desks is becuase they have responsibility. Nursing assistants / Healthcare assistants have very little responsibility. Nurses are overloaded with paperwork documenting everything they do. Literally everything.

I don't know what you do mate, but from your comments I suspect you do not take people's lives in your hands, care for them at their most vulnerable, and no doubt you are not subject to investigation if something is missed while a patient is in your care.

And many Nurses do not work on wards. My wife works in an outpatient clinic which sees 70,000 patients a year. That is non-stop on your feet work, not only physically but mentally draining. If you seriously think that deserves the same money as some skiving git in the post office, or whatever desk job you have landed yourself, you are sorely mistaken.

I have to inject Radioactive materials into patients (subject to both medicine's and Ionising radiation's acts), many of the patients we do have cancer and are very ill (from 1 week to 100years old), if I cock up in any area, radiopharmacy (we make the injections too), injecting, care, scanning or radioactive disposal. I am answerable, in law, and subject to lengthy investigations.

And don't tell me about nurses not all working on wards!! My Mum is a community nurse!! And we have nurses in our department!

I don't know what you do in a hospital, but you must go round with your eyes shut. I grant you that NA's do a lot of work, but I think you are missing all the other work Nurses do. In different wards, they'll be the ones sticking you with a needle that might save your life, and if it doesn't, they are the ones who call your nearest and dearest to tell them they need to come in and see you - quick. They are the ones who will cover you up and fill in the crevices when you are dead. That's after they have performed resus procedures to try and keep you alive.

They are the ones who will stitch you up after you have an accident. They are the ones who clean up your urine and excrement when you explode with fear after seeing your injuries.

£30k (MAX)for someone that deals with death and injury, day in, day out deserves more. They save your life, not NA's. And that payscale is UK wide, so it matters not if you are in the East Mids or not.

And where you get those final salary figures from is beyond me. My wife has a pension which will be quite good. Insufficient, but quite good. Bear in mind though, that she has had to work a lot of hours saving ungrateful fcukers, with no thanks from anyone to get this. Guaranteed pay rises? Good Lord! For what they get in those rises, I wish they'd all strike. Then we'd see how many people moan when their loved ones aren't getting any care.

All in an atmosphere of Cdiff, MRSA, death, doom and gloom.

There are happy wards - broken noses, arms and legs etc, but the nurses who have to clean you up, clean up after you etc for 19k - no wonder they are all fcuking off and being posties!!

Who actually made the drug they're going to give you - Pharmacists/pharmacy tech's

Who prescribed that drug - Doctors

How do they know what drug to use (i.e. what's wrong with you) - Biomedical scientists, MLSO's, Radiographers, Technologists!, cardiac technicians, Ultra-sonographers, Audiologists, phlebotomists

How do you get to your tests - Porters

Who makes sure that the testing/monitoring equipment works - Physicists, Medical Physics tech's, workshop engineer's, electricians.

You need surgery, but who makes this happen - Sterile services, Operating Department Assistants

Who makes sure you stay okay - Physio's, NA's, Catering staff.

Who makes sure your old notes are there - Clinic administrators, clerical staff.

But the building? - Estates

Who can make sure you stay okay at home - Occupational therapists.

Finally who puts all this together - Nobody likes them but they have to budget for ALL of this: Managers!
