Lillehamring Posted 7 September 2009 Posted 7 September 2009 The Garlands swedish and twee, but actually a bit rough around the edges... and a great indie version of george michael's 'freedom' warning - this band is very lo-fi
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 The Galvatrons - An Australian band, they are quite up-beat happy rock, with a bit of electro stuff in there aswell. I saw these guys supporting Enter Shikari and they were so much fun, some friends and I decided to liven up the crowd by actually doing something which got us an invite backstage to hang out with all the bands which was pretty cool Seen 'em live when they supported Something with numbers nothing to rave on about. I rate them as a bit of a gimmicky band mainly cos they had a different sort of sound that got a fair bit of radio play over here "when we were kids" which i liked and cos i think they come from Geelong (nothing good as come from there). Agree they are fun and a couple of there songs are quite good to listen too live as they got plenty of energy.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 Thought you'd be into Temper Trap Val. Shame. Band's no one like i made a thread on The Temper Trap months back.........dissapointing smuts.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 Off the top of my head Rides Again (not Rise Against, my friends keep saying "OMG YOU MEAN RISE AGAINST DICKHEAD EVERYONE KNOWS THEM"), Silverchair, Hell is for Heroes and A Lifelike Story are all bands I've heard music by recently that none of my friends know, and that I liked, but I don't have particularly extensive knowledge of any of them. Everyone must know them and then hate them. Sort of band that made 3 too many Albums
General Smuts Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 Band's no one like i made a thread on The Temper Trap months back.........dissapointing smuts. Haha they've been around a while i think. Not surprised someone beat me to that one.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 8 September 2009 Posted 8 September 2009 Haha they've been around a while i think. Not surprised someone beat me to that one. Started getting attention with gigs around october last year. Debut album a few months back

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Two of my mates used to absolutely bum rape Augustana. Two of your mates have good taste. Mini Viva.
Joe. Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Two of your mates have good taste.Mini Viva. I should mention that this was when we were about 15, automaically removing most of their creditability.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I should mention that this was when we were about 15, automaically removing most of their creditability. They're alright I reckon. Better than you and your Manilow obsession. Honestly.
Joe. Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 Ellie Goulding. May have stumbled across a bit of a gem here. EDIT: Val, I think this one could be for you in particular. Might be wrong!
General Smuts Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 AugustanaWe Shot the Moon Thriving Ivory Smuts will probably know these. Dog aids the lot of them.
Mark Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 The Tumbled Sea About 95% of bands I listen probably
Lillehamring Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 Ellie Goulding. May have stumbled across a bit of a gem here.EDIT: Val, I think this one could be for you in particular. Might be wrong! strange, really not into that kind of pronounced vocal - BUT - yes, i quite like her actually, never heard of her but could listen quite happily, i like the tracking a lot - especially the 'swimming pool' demo on her myspace. nice one. reminds me a lot of Anneli Drecker
Lillehamring Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 some more music from scandinavia... same singer in both bands... The Tigers Dessert Time
MC Prussian Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Alrightey, another update with some bands I hadn't known before but now (deeply) admire: The Black Heart Procession Club (some of you may know these; tend to be on the depressive side as far as their music is concerned; "The Spell" is an awesome album, though) Neon Indian (alongside Washed Out another artist whose work'll warp you back to the good old Miami Vice days) Sea Wolf (dreamy folk-pop from LA) Thao With The Get Down Stay Down (folk-pop from SF) The Week That Was (Newcastle/Sunderland-based, 10cc/Godley&Creme-inspired, with some nice string arrangements) Also got myself the first and the newest Spindrift albums, very good. The current one is heavily Western-influenced and acts as its own soundtrack. The new Spiral Beach album as well as Music Go Music's first complete one are also highly recommended.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Tyr, they dress as vikings and play some awesome folky hard rock music, what isn't there to like? Zebrahead, a pop/punk band with some really up beat parts, a little bit of screamo in some of the songs aswell. I believe people like FoxForever and Lavrentis will enjoy these guys. *the music starts about 10 seconds in on the video*
Edmund Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 some more music from scandinavia... same singer in both bands... Val have you heard of Balstyrko from Denmark. Some trippy medieval business. http://www.myspace.com/balstyrko
Lillehamring Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Tyr, they dress as vikings and play some awesome folky hard rock music, what isn't there to like? you forgot to mention the fact that that song opens with a section from 'stonehenge' by spinal tap....
Lillehamring Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Val have you heard of Balstyrko from Denmark. Some trippy medieval business.http://www.myspace.com/balstyrko nope. but they are quite intriguing.
Edmund Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 nope. but they are quite intriguing. Yep I got there album, even though I don't have a clue what there saying the musics nice. Highly recommend it. In fact I've got quite a lot of Danish music. They love there sample based music, is really refreshing to hear. There hip hop beats are also next level.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 you forgot to mention the fact that that song opens with a section from 'stonehenge' by spinal tap.... It's not that similar This is perhaps the most 'commercial' sounding one of their songs, if you search out Sinklars Visa that is more typical of their style. The fact they came on stage dressed in plate mail armour seals it for me, they're awesome.
Lillehamring Posted 17 October 2009 Posted 17 October 2009 i think a lot of you indier people might like this band John Olav Nilsen & Gjengen they have that kinda 80s guitar/vocal sound going on, but it feels authentic to me, they remind me (from what i know of both bands) a bit of the stranglers....
